Jun 8, 2011I'm setting up a new linux box to give email and web services to some small companies I manage.I'd like to secure things up a bit, as I don't want that user in Company A be able to access Company B data.For starters I'm planning to create a new place for placing users, groups, files and some other Company related stuff.I want to be able, when I add a user for some company, that the user home dir will be set to /customers/ companyX/users/userX
Question 1: is this folder structure ok, or is there a better,safer place to put it other than / ?
Question 2: how can I set a new user home dir to the path above, when I add it? Similarly, how can I set the email location?

Jun 5, 2011I am in the process of building a new desktop machine for work and fun. I am looking to run a undecided flavor of Linux (guessing Ubuntu) as my primary OS and several Windows installs with a Windows 7 install for .net development and gaming as virtualized environments.
From my previous experiences with virtualization software in Linux I was never able to find an application that offered descent video card support / graphic acceleration etc. to be capable of playing any games within one of the virtualized environments. And since I will be investing quite a bit of money into this system for gaming I would naturally want to find the best option available to achieve this setup.
So Onto my question: Is there any virtualization software available for Linux that has full video card support, graphic acceleration and capable of taking advantage of everything the video cards have to offer within the virtualized environments?
Or am I stuck with running Windows 7 as my primary OS and using virtualization for Linux and the other OS's?
Also I have no preference on open/closed source and price range would be up to $175.00 to support at least 3 virtualized environments.

Apr 20, 2010I want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from ˜PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.

Feb 24, 2011Just got off the phone with Netflix support. Apparently they really want everyone to CALL to request Linux support. You don't have to be a current subscriber (though in fairness you should probably at least be open to subscribing). Archaic if you ask me, but I guess that's how they gauge interest.So, if you're interested, give Netflix a ring and say that you want Netflix on Linux. It might help to mention that Amazon's recently released "Prime" video service DOES support Linux already. They have some competition now!

Feb 21, 2011So right now I am dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu.Today, my landlord asked me for help because his machine is filled with virues. So first thing I did was throw it onto one of my spare sata drives and tried to clean it in windows. Got a torjan that for some reason, MS essentials wasnt able to remove. So I am now in Ubuntu trying to remove it with KlamAV, however, KlamAV doesn't seem to spot the same file right now.
So my question is, is there another good virus scanner that works? I tried AVG but it seems they don't support linux anymore, just linux server.

May 25, 2010I have a sitution that I am trying to set up.I have 2 email servers that run on Windows: one is for internal purposes, the other is external purposes.The external one will receive e-mail from the outside world, clean it up and forward it to the internal one.There are 2 Windows Vista machines and 2 Unix (OpenSuse Linux) machines.Since there can be only 1 email server per domain, I thought I would:
-> set up a local domain with ALL of the machines in it
-> set up a DNS server for the local domain
-> set up a MX record in the DNS server for the email
For the external machine, just have a Dynamic IP point to the Windows machine holding the external email server.Does this sound plausible? Does this make sense?How can one fix it so that a DNS under Suse is accessible from Windows?

Nov 6, 2010A few months ago, I got one of these and it is great for travel. I had to buy Norton for it and now the trial MS Office has expired which burns me. MS Windoze 7 Light is an adventure plus all the other bundled useless (to me) HP stuff.I use SUSE Linux 11.2 on my main mail/internet desktop and I like it a lot so I have been thinking about swapping the hard drive out of the HP Mini and loading 11.2.
Has anybody done this? I've searched but haven't turned up any threads about this. I'm a newbie so maybe I need to be pointed?Maybe there is a more suitable Linux distribution but I only know SUSE and am ok with it.My HP is a Mini 210-1000 if that is relevant.

May 28, 2010My computer has 3 hard drives: 1 SSD, 1 sata II, 1 sata 3. This is a dual boot system contains OpenSUSE 11.2 64 bit OS and Win 7 64 bit OS. the SSD drive has OpenSUSE, and the sata II has Win 7.
Win 7 sees the sata II and sata 3 drives, while OpenSUSE only sees the SSD hard drive and the sata II drive. Even in partitioner in OpenSUSE does not see the sata 3 drive. Is sata 3 (6 gb/s) supported in OpenSUSE 11.2?
CentOS 5 :: SuSe Support For Cent OS 5.x KVM?
Dec 26, 2010I have read in the release notes that there is no SuSe Linux (SLES 10) support in Cent OS 5.x KVM or even for that matter in Xen.
