View 9 RepliesWe have a lot of servers here and need a tool to manage hardware inventory. We need to record following information.
Hardware List: HDD, PRocessor, IPAddress, etc,.
Support Renewal Dates.
IP Address.
Project Working.
I'm looking for a tool which can monitor whether a process is near limit of maximum open files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've read up some of the posts on this forum, but can't seem to find an answer. I have a web service within an Apache Tomcat instance installed on a Redhat linux server. I only have shell access to the server, and need to monitor outbound network traffic from my web service. Is there a unix command that will allow me to monitor all outbound traffic? I'm thinking fiddler, but a unix version? I've heard of things like ntop and iptraf, but I don't think those will help me in this instance.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI maintain a samba PDC for a small business, our current setup does not work very well; on a hardware upgrade I directled imported the old ldap database and attempting to add machines to the domain causes all sorts of trouble.
I'm 95% sure the original database (which predates my employment) was created using the idealx smb-ldap tools, unfortunately on our current platform (debian lenny) these tools seem to be broken; the only things hey seem to do reliably are set passwords and add posix users, asking them to do anything involving samba/windows causes errors. The idealx tools seem to be abandoned, and I don't know enough perl to try and fix them.
Since the idealx scripts seem to be abandoned, and most of the good samba+ldap how-tos references the idealx tools, I was wondering what people use nowadays to manage there ldap directories; surely they aren't importing .ldif files to add new users/machines like I've been doing. Are people just writing thier own management scripts/web-apps? Or are the smb=ldap tools just broke on debian?how to generate the NT/LM password hashes and proper SIDs, does anybody have anything they could point me to about this?
how to export normal unix user to ldap I've unbuntu ldap server with some local users. I want to export all my local users to ldap database as a ldap users. Or if there is any configuration so that when ever a normal user is created then automatically an ldap user with the same name as the normal user will be created
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd like for the server (10.04) to keep samba passwords and unix passwords "in sync"; i.e. when a user changes his unix password (via passwd), his Samba password is automatically changed to match the unix password. Similarly, when a user changes his samba password (via smbpasswd), then his unix password is changed to match. smb.conf seems to make provision for this; following are the applicable entries from my smb.conf:
Code:
obey pam restrictions = Yes
pam password change = Yes

is there an easy way for me to get the hardware specs of a linux machine, such as number and type of processors, RAM, BIOS version, # of power supplies, etc from a command line?
I'm dealing with Dell servers, but even if i can just get number and type of processors and RAM config, that'd be great. I know how to easily do it in Windows, no clue on Linux.
I have been trying to set up GLPI with OCS inventory but am having issues installing OCS. I have been following the below directions and when i go to [url] the login page gives me an error.

Now i have not tried to log in yet so its like there is a auto log in. What config file do i have to edit to turn this off?
Something that may be effecting this would be the following step (below high lighted in red)i do not do as i do not see this line when installing. I am installing 1.3.1 not 1.0 like the guide was written for, which i think is what is causing me not to see this step.
This install procedure was meant for Debian Etch but should work for Ubuntu. Just add sudo to the beginning of all the commands. Or you can login as root and run them by typing:
At a command prompt type:
I setup openldap and samba on 9.10. The ubuntu desktop client gets authenticated successfully with the server. But when I do a passwd on the client, only the ldap passwd is getting changed but not in the samba and the unix user account.
My smb.conf
Code:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://192.168.3.100
ldap suffix = dc=example,dc=local
ldap user suffix = ou=People
ldap group suffix = ou=Groups
[code].....
But only the ldap password is getting changed and not in the samba and unix user account.
I tried
unix password sync = yes
but same result.
I'm trying to create a Virtual Machine in VMWare Server for Linux. I'm at the part where it asks for an ISO image. The inventory is empty. I don't know what directory this actually corresponds to on my Linux system. I tried moving the .iso to my home directory but VMWare still does not see it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am adding inventory control to our online store here at work and I'm not sure of the best approach.Let's say Customer A and Customer B are both looking at the product page for Product X at the same time, and there is only 1 left in stock. What should happen if both click "add to cart" at (more or less) the same time?hould the last Product X get put "on hold" for one of the customers, and then decremented once the sale is complete? Or should the database decrement the product count, and then increment it if the sale doesn't go through successfully? Is it still possible for both to add it to their cart? Are there any mysql features I can use to ensure both cannot purchase the last product?

Within a few weeks we're getting about 32 machines to manage.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just done a brand new install of fed12 and did all the yum updates. Apache seems to start ok and I always liked the http config tool but it won't run on Fedora 12. I downloaded and installed system-config-httpd.noarch 5:1.4.6-1.fc12 and it all went fine but when I try to start it I get the usual box asking for my root password, I type it in and press enter, the box disappears and then....nothing. If I run system-config-httpd in a terminal I get the same box asking for root passowrd but when I enter it I get a long scroll of text which ends with:
line 4: 2137 Aborted (core dumped) /usr/bin/python /usr/share/system-config-httpd/ApacheConf.py
I don't know what causes this. Is there any way to get the http config tool working?
I have Apache 2.2.12, Gallery2, PostgreSQL 8.4, and XCache (PHP cache) humming along on a Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) server. Can someone recommend GUI postgreSQL admin tool for managing the database other than pgAdmin?

I need to setup test accounts and groups.
For that I can test a LDAP-to-DataBase synchronization tool.
Anything with which I can quickly add users /Groups in the directory structure.
I don't care which LDAP-server, as long as it is stable enough to run for 10 minutes.
Am I right in thinking that the system-config-httpd tool doesn't work in Fedora 13?

I'm in need of some auditing to determine what is happening with some files on our local server. What is generally the best tool to load, and do you have any good links to a tutorial on how to install, setup and run?
I'm looking for what users have accessed a file. ... read, open, edit, delete, move, save... etc..
Looking for a test tool where I can fire up any number of ports (TCP and / or UDP) to listen on.
I am currently getting my using nc but its only 1 port at a time (i know I can open up multiple sessions but thats cumbersome), it can't do UDP, and it closes at the end of the session.
A friend has suggested socat but it looks pretty much the same except it can do UDP, but also cumbersome, I have to manually output to a different file per port, etc.
Basically its so I can quickly test firewall and NAT rules.
I'm trying to run X11 windows over ssh but I get this error:
Code:

server@server:~$ xclock
connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: No such file or directory
Error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0
I managed to connect with another computer. That computer has a /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 socket. Is there a way to create a socket on this computer?
I am currently trying to set up a Samba domain server. In the Samba-HOWTO-Collection I found an
example file.(Point 3.3.3.1) In the explanations of the example below, the author says I need to map UNIX Groups to NT Groups. He writes a shell-script of how one could do it, but when I copy it and then execute it, I get the error:
Bad option: rid=512
Bad option: rid=513
Bad option: rid=514
The other groups do get mapped, just the Domain Admins, Domain Users and Domain Guests dont. This is the shell from the HOWTO:
#!/bin/bash
#### Shell-Skript f ̈r sp ̈tere Verwendung aufbewahren
net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=512
net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Users" unixgroup=users rid=513
net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Guests" unixgroup=nobody rid=514

i started to look into upgrading my LTS ubuntu server instances to Lucid. one the notable things that i have discovered is the lack of support for Webmin; it seems that Debian is no longer supporting packages required by Webmin. But it also appears that ubuntu team believes that Webmin may actually cause problems as it works in a different way than that presumed by Ubuntu. so i am now left with no way to manage my 10+ instances of ubuntu server that i used for studying and research. it seems that i am left with cluster-ssh as an alternative. but are there other alternatives, ideally similar to webmin?
