Software :: Inventory Management Tool Requreied / Where To Get It?
Feb 23, 2009
We have a lot of servers here and need a tool to manage hardware inventory. We need to record following information.
Hardware List: HDD, PRocessor, IPAddress, etc,.
Support Renewal Dates.
IP Address.
Project Working.
I was wondering does anyone here know a good SQL management tool for ubuntu? I just want something with a nice GUI that doesn't require much hassle to add remove or even migrate databases.
I'm looking for something to manage multiple machines. Within a few weeks we're getting about 32 machines to manage. We need to manage via SSH, SFTP and mySQL. Is there something available which gives an overview of the machines and opens a terminal or sftp session with the selected machine, with a shortcut or something like that?
I'm looking for a graphical database management tool that will allow me to create some tables and whatnot. I'm looking for an application similar to Toad: http://www.toadsoft.com/toadmysql/
Does anyone have a suggestion for a very simple tool I could use to manage sales leads?
I said CRM in the title of this thread, but I don't really need anything that full-featured. All I want is something to help me manage my job search by keeping track of which jobs I have applied for, when I need to phone particular agencies again, and that sort of thing. I have tried installing a couple of Apache-based apps, but they have turned out to be too complicated to set up. I couldn't find a desktop app in the repos, but maybe I have missed something. A cloud-hosted service would probably be OK, so long as it is within my current 0 budget.
I keep getting the following error message every time I try to open the Hipo iPod Management Tool:
Code:
Could not find org.freedesktop.Hal at Hal.Manager..ctor () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at IPod.HalClient.HalDeviceManager..ctor () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at IPod.DeviceManager.Create () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at IPod.DeviceCombo..ctor () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hipo.HipoMainWindow.CreateWindow (System.String[] args) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hipo.HipoMain.Run (System.String[] args) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hipo.HipoMain.Main (System.String[] args) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
Just a quick question, is there a system user management app that could be accessed via a website for red hat (or really any distro)? Something kinda like phpMyAdmin, but can do useradd, userdel, groupadd, etc. For remote admins who don't know how to use ssh or the command line.
I've just installed Fedora this morning. In the past I've tried OpenSuse and Ubuntu. OpenSuse has it's problems and I don't like Ubuntu's new "Unity" GUI, so I wanted to try something else.
1. I got my first error about 1 minute after loading, when I tried to do a software update.("could not add package update for fedora-release-rawhide-15-3(noarch)updates: fedora-release-rawhide-15-3.noarch"). Not sure what that's about, but I found a solution on these forums (just using yum update on the command line).
2. My wireless card (Realtek) is not working. It took me ages (days) to figure out how to get it to work in OpenSuse. I had to compile the driver from source and install the firmware. I'm trying to do the same in Fedora, but am getting an error I don't understand.
On OpenSuse I had to install "Linux Kernel Development", "C/C++ Development" and "Base Development" from YaST, then compile using "make" on the command line. In Fedora I've installed gcc gcc-c++, kernel-devel and kernel-headers using yum. When I try and make the file, I get the following error:
[Code]....
3. I can't find any kind of software management tool in Fedora, just the yum thing on the command line. I don't mind that, but how do I know the names of the things I want to install? Is there some way I can search for software or something?
i started to look into upgrading my LTS ubuntu server instances to Lucid. one the notable things that i have discovered is the lack of support for Webmin; it seems that Debian is no longer supporting packages required by Webmin. But it also appears that ubuntu team believes that Webmin may actually cause problems as it works in a different way than that presumed by Ubuntu. so i am now left with no way to manage my 10+ instances of ubuntu server that i used for studying and research. it seems that i am left with cluster-ssh as an alternative. but are there other alternatives, ideally similar to webmin?
is there an easy way for me to get the hardware specs of a linux machine, such as number and type of processors, RAM, BIOS version, # of power supplies, etc from a command line?
I'm dealing with Dell servers, but even if i can just get number and type of processors and RAM config, that'd be great. I know how to easily do it in Windows, no clue on Linux.
I have been trying to set up GLPI with OCS inventory but am having issues installing OCS. I have been following the below directions and when i go to [url] the login page gives me an error.

Now i have not tried to log in yet so its like there is a auto log in. What config file do i have to edit to turn this off?
Something that may be effecting this would be the following step (below high lighted in red)i do not do as i do not see this line when installing. I am installing 1.3.1 not 1.0 like the guide was written for, which i think is what is causing me not to see this step.
This install procedure was meant for Debian Etch but should work for Ubuntu. Just add sudo to the beginning of all the commands. Or you can login as root and run them by typing:
I'm trying to create a Virtual Machine in VMWare Server for Linux. I'm at the part where it asks for an ISO image. The inventory is empty. I don't know what directory this actually corresponds to on my Linux system. I tried moving the .iso to my home directory but VMWare still does not see it.
I have been using ZipTie/NetworkAuthority Inventory for nearly 5 years now and decided I wanted to try and compile it from source so that I can make some tweaks. The issue is that Alterpoint has taken down the CVS site to get the source code. Can someone help me out with getting this source code so that I can make some development changes?
I am adding inventory control to our online store here at work and I'm not sure of the best approach.Let's say Customer A and Customer B are both looking at the product page for Product X at the same time, and there is only 1 left in stock. What should happen if both click "add to cart" at (more or less) the same time?hould the last Product X get put "on hold" for one of the customers, and then decremented once the sale is complete? Or should the database decrement the product count, and then increment it if the sale doesn't go through successfully? Is it still possible for both to add it to their cart? Are there any mysql features I can use to ensure both cannot purchase the last product?

I've been using Ubuntu since 2006, and love it! I've even gotten a few others hooked when their Windows machines crapped out due to viruses or other problems. And Ubuntu has only gotten better. Now I'm trying to build a home network around a wireless router (Linksys). I'm set up with a desktop wired to the router, and two laptops regularly connect wirelessly. The wireless router is connected to a cable modem. Everything works fine (except getting the Ubuntu laptop to connect wirelessly using WPA).
What I would like to do is use the desktop as a server, so I can see who is connected at any given time, control security protocol, edit the MAC address list, boot off unwanted users, etc. I can do most of this by connecting to 192.168.1.1, but would prefer something on the desktop. Looking through the Software Center, the only thing I can find is KontrolPack. Anyone use this? Will this give me the functions I want?
I'm looking to upgrade a few packages but noticed that the version available through Yum isn't necessarily the most up-to-date version as per the package website. One such example is Mysql:
[root@localhost ~]# yum info mysql-server Loading "installonlyn" plugin Setting up repositories
[code]....
If you look on the mysql website, the latest community edition is 5.1.50. I suspect the answer might be to do a distribution upgrade via media (i.e.: burn a CD) however was wondering if there's any ways around that?
I'm at ES5. Anyone have a method for roll out or backing a single RPM or set of RPMs. In other words, I install the security errata (several packages) and it breaks something. I need to back it out, and restore the original. Also, anyone have experience using Red Hat provisioning for patch management?
I installed Debian Lenny on a Desktop computer for my wife, and am looking for an application to manage her photos.Specifically, what I'm looking for is a way to graphically display a file of thumbnails that reside in a specific folder and allow me to rearrange the order of them them as I see fit. The altered file would then be written back to the hard drive to be viewed with any photo viewer.
Does anyone know of something similar to SecureCRT for linux. Id like a program that keeps a list of devices and when i click it, it would open the session in a tab.
When I run zypper dup I get this message : System management is locked by the application with pid 3787 (/usr/sbin/packagekitd). Close this application before trying again.
I have been using 11.2 for a few days now and have noticed a few things that are different from 11.0 and was wondering if there is anything I can do to change them to my liking. When I want to install software thru Yast>software>Software Management I can install the software I choose OK, but it does not ask if I wish to install more software when it is done. The Yast control center stays open, but the Software Management window closes.I must reopen Software Management to do more.It is a small problem, yes, but annoying to me.Is there anyway to set it up so that it will ask if I wish to install more?
