Ubuntu Multimedia :: VLC Media Player .ts File And Error?

Jan 1, 2010

Okay running on 64bit karmic 9.10 i have been trying to get this .ts file to play nicely on vlc, but no success of getting it work nicely what so ever. It actually starts under VLC and gives image and sound but not the way i would prefer it. I don't quite get it but when i start it with vlc it actually displays it with lower resolution this is HD file, as its a stream capture from tv but it outputs it with much smaller resolution about 320 x 180. Tried it with other players too but the only one that accepted it nicely was xine "but problems ahead again" it outputs no sound? the image though was and is what it should be.

Tried it with Totem too and it did accept it too actually "hurray! but with the same symptoms as VLC + it doesn't output any sound out from the file only the image is what gets generated out from the player. I ran VLC from the terminal and it outputs following data when i start to play the file:

so if any ONE knows what should i do, feel free to step up and advise me would be appreciated (thanks in advance) If this has value if's mpeg2 ts file. And no...the file ain't corrupted that much i know, but what could generate this problem. If it ain't broken? Seeking works nice etc... except the low resolution display.

Software :: Setting Association Between PLS File Type And A Given Media Player In Firefox?

Jun 11, 2011

Kernel, Slackware 12.0 When I click on some audio stream links in my web browser (Mozilla Firefox), the stream comes in a URL ending in .pls, usually listen.pls. As I want mplayer to play it and not the default player, I intend to make the first the default one. In Firefox ( I can do Edit>Preferences>Content>File Types>Manage and change the actions associated with each file type. However, if the type is, say, PDF, I can can only change the action if a PDF file has anytime been downloaded. So, the same goes for a PLS file.

You have an example of the kind of link I talk about here: [URL] In the case of a radio broadcast audio stream, I am not downloading it, I think. At least, the Download window does not open. The Download window not having open itsef, the PLS type does not appear in the window Edit>...>File Types>Manage leads to. And so, I cannot change the action. The action would be 'Open them with this application': mplayer.

Slackware :: 13.1 - Compatible DVD Player Program That Will Work

I tried playing a movie on the computer and nothing happened. Thats when I figured out I don't have a program to play the movie so my question is what dvd player program is good? Also is the source and slackbuild going to be on the slackbuild website so I can download it? The reason I ask the last question is because I tried to install swiftfox and opera but they don't have the source or slackbuild for them. For an older version of opera they did have the slackbuild and source but not the new one.

The two things I want are firstly a product of high quality n functionality like those two mentioned above AND secondly a seamless ubuntu compatibility. I'd love to see synchronization and stuff working out of the box. Anyone out there found a outstanding product and like to give a recommendation?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: VLC Media Player Doesn't See Files As "media Files"

Jan 22, 2010

I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.

What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.

Debian :: After Installing VLC Media Player?

Apr 11, 2011

I run a Home server using Debian, and have been using it as a backup server and using it to host a voice server. I wanted to try streaming music/video so I can enjoy music at remote locations, and I have used VLC media player before, but never on Linux. I located the VLC media player package on the Synaptics Package manger, and told it to download it along with the other additional packages, and it said it had to remove some old packages and incompatible ones as well, so I said go ahead. Well, the screen blanked out at some point during the installation process, so i rebooted the server. Now it will go thru the whole loading process, and where it is supposed to prompt me to log in, it gives me a grey background and my cursor, which does react, but nothing else happens, and the activity light on the server does not flash. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I would enjoy being able to log back into my server XD

I have some knowledge of how to use and work with Linux, but only from what I have read and messed around with.

I've tried several media players (Exaile, Amarok, Audacius) but none of them can play a song. The format of all my music library is MP3. In the pre-installed Rhytmbox and Totem it says something about codecs and searches for them, but finds none.
