Fedora :: F10: No Music With Any Media Player?
Nov 1, 2009I'm a new Fedora user and I've been downloading some software from the repositories. BUT, I found a problem: I can't play ANY media with ANY player; however, I can hear system sounds but music. I've tried several media players (Exaile, Amarok, Audacius) but none of them can play a song. The format of all my music library is MP3. In the pre-installed Rhytmbox and Totem it says something about codecs and searches for them, but finds none.

Before the format, it was ext4. then I formatted it to ext4 again because I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing(this mistake only gets made once). Now im looking for away to recover any/all of my data. The drive in question is 1tb. I have not written any new files to this drive.

Jun 25, 2010I'm using fedora 13(64 bit system). I had recently installed VLC media player (version:1.0.6). Which installed properly, without any errors, but when I tried to play video files with vlc, its not working. Even when I tried to execute vlc using command prompt it resulted like this.....

May 2, 2011Before upgrading from Fedora 13 to v.14, VLC Media Player (v1.1.9) worked perfectly. But under Fedora 14, when I try to use it to play .AVI files that played perfectly under Fedora 13 (with the same hardware), VLC opens, stalls for a second, then closes. I've tried several files -- all of which play under Movie Player (and DID play on VLC under Fedora 13), so I know the files themselves are valid. I'd like either to have VLC work under Fedora 14, or revert back to Fedora 13 and permanently block any future upgrade to 14. easy way of rolling back to v.13 without losing my configurations or any of my installed software? Would using a Fedora 13 CD do it?

Jan 22, 2010I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.

Apr 11, 2011I run a Home server using Debian, and have been using it as a backup server and using it to host a voice server. I wanted to try streaming music/video so I can enjoy music at remote locations, and I have used VLC media player before, but never on Linux. I located the VLC media player package on the Synaptics Package manger, and told it to download it along with the other additional packages, and it said it had to remove some old packages and incompatible ones as well, so I said go ahead. Well, the screen blanked out at some point during the installation process, so i rebooted the server. Now it will go thru the whole loading process, and where it is supposed to prompt me to log in, it gives me a grey background and my cursor, which does react, but nothing else happens, and the activity light on the server does not flash. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I would enjoy being able to log back into my server XD
I have some knowledge of how to use and work with Linux, but only from what I have read and messed around with.
