View 9 RepliesWhen I look for install of Libre Office I find a download on the Libre site with a list of install files that are longer than the reach of my patience.
I can't find it in Software Center. Shouldn't it be there?
I have tried 2 fresh installs of Ubuntu 10.10 from Wubi. After the initial Windows install I reboot, select Ubuntu, get the countdown (at which point I have to hit ESC for options or it will just hang), then select the 'ACPI Workrounds' option. I get to the purple splash screen with preview slide show and Ubuntu begins finalizing the install. The progress bar goes all he way to the end, reading "recalculating splines", but then my system reboots.
When I chose Ubuntu again I have the standard option and the 'safe mode' option. Neither get me back to the purple splash screen, but instead just hang. Safe mode will begin to load, then hang on [ 1.771083] ata: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps...
I have tried to edit the Grub for both of these options. I tried adding (variously) 'nomodeset', 'noapic', 'nolapic' and have deleted 'quiet splash' [I don't recall every combination of commands I tried, so if there is a specific set please let me know]. No matter what I try here, as soon as I hit CTRL-X, it goes to a screen stating: "Booting command list". It just hangs on this screen and I can not type anything in. I am forced to pull the power cord to reboot.
I am running an older laptop: Toshiba Satellite A135; Intel Celleron Processor and 2 gigs of RAM, Windows Vista Home Basic pre-installed
PS: The only errors I could find in a Google search having to do with "splines" was in relation to Ooo.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was using the open source ATI drivers and KDE's compositing worked, so I hadn't installed compiz. I wanted to try fglrx because I thought a) I might be able to get temperature readings, and b) it might stop Kubuntu from making my computer incredibly hot (in Windows 7 it stays cool). So I installed fglrx by enabling it in the restricted hardware drivers thing, and things worked, but compositing was disabled and no matter what I did I couldn't enable it. So I installed compiz. When I run compiz, I get the following output:
Code:
toby@tensile:~$ compiz --replace

Anyone gotten CentOS 5 to install on this hardware? The installer boots and partitions the drive, but either crashes during formatting of the partitions or during package installation with a kernel panic.
I am a long time gentoo-user (~10 years). Just bought this new laptop and don't want to take the time to compile everything. During my search for a nice binary distro, I found the KDE reloaded CD, which I then downloaded. That was because I had a great hassle to find a Distro which supports the latest KDE, I was used by gentoo. Well, I am very impressed: Installation went flawless and the Distro is very up-to-date.
Well, now to one of my problems: I have this mobile internet stick:
Code:
ID 12d1:140c Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
which also gets detected as a modem. So far so good. When I now try to set it up, the KDE networmanager just segfaults badly... This is the output from the error report:
Maybe there is a possibility to set it up command line?
Code:
Application: KDE-Kontrollmodul (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault

just downloaded meerkat wich comes with Libre Office. I tried to download the help file from Inkscape and that works fine. But when I tried to print it out, only text appears on the paper together with the frames for the pictures. What am i doing wrong or is it a bug.? Never had troubles with Open Office.

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhy openSuSE chose to switch the default Office from openOffice to LibreOffice?First, I at least looked at libre, looks ok.Then, I went to the 'site' found NO support, forum etc. was directed to opendesktop and again, No forum, not way to comment other than irc and that is way to easy to be 'band from' if they don't like what one has to say...
I, as of this post, have not read anything overwhelming about libreoffice.. this switch is, at this point, not as bad a the fools over at KDE deciding without the use of a normal brain, to switch default file manager from konqueror to dolphin.. my Uncle Art ('unky') used to say, 'for free, take. to buy, shop around'... and Dad said, 'if it's free you can't *****, especially if you contributed nothing'....
I've been dealing with "blurred" menus on my openoffice and I'm not quite sure how to approach it. I've done some google searching but perhaps I'm using the wrong terms because nothing helpful is coming up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy low-down lousy computer crashed while I had two spreadsheets (Libre Calc) open. When I re-booted the 'tater, then clicked on the launchers for my spreadsheets, Libre Calc opened new, blank documents.
Is there a way to find the lost spreadsheets? If I can't have the whole things, then just the data would be OK.
Okay so I have a file that I always save and close properly and get in my Ubuntu One folder for backup that will not open. Its called "Income.ods" and is quite important and I cannot seem to recover it. When I double click it, it shows the Libre Office Calc splash screen shows up then goes away and the nothing, no error messages, no nothing. I tried to open it on my Windows Vista machine and it said it was corrupted and could not open in Office Word. I tried a few recovery tools but to no avail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.10 and Open Office 3.2.1. I guess that this problem may affect Libre Office too, but I will be happy to be proved wrong about that. I am editing a document that was originally produced in Microsoft Word (the standard .doc format). It is a form produced by a national organisation and it has to be sent back to them, and when submitted it has to be no longer than two A4 pages. It contains a series of headings and (expanding) text boxes for content.
In order to be sure about the length, I did most of the editing with Microsoft Word on my wife's laptop. On that machine, and on a PC that has a different version of Word, the document fits exactly within the two-page limit. But on my laptop, using Open Office, it appears considerably longer, taking up two-and-a-half pages. Why is this, and can anything be done to correct it? Open Office appears to be using the same fonts as Microsoft Word - the font names are the same, anyway - and the font sizes are the same, yet the text appears to take up more of the page display.
I've tried installing Ubuntu 10.4 and 9.10, but every time it crashes all of a sudden and says that ubiquity closed unexpectedly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).
QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.
