Slackware :: How To Configure Lenovo T60 To Use Internet
Sep 21, 2010
Does anybody know how to configure a lenovo t60 to use internet?I installed Slackware fresh and I chose not to configure the network when it prompted me during installation. Now I have cable so I ran netconfig and picked DHCP and entered "darkswamp", "darkswamp.org", and I left the last one blank.I can't research how to configure my internet because I don't have internet. I can only come to library to figure it out.

I have a laptop lenovo T410s, using RHEL 5.6, 2.6.18-238. I'm trying use the external monitor as dual head using the system-config-display tool, but the generated xorg.conf fails:
Monitor autoprobe results
Monitor autoprobe failed.
And if I boot up with the monitor attached using the old single head valid xorg.conf, both screens stay blank. It works only with the external monitor cable disconnected. I don't know what else to try.

While this is the second notebook I've had the luxury of running Slackware on, I have never used the the suspend to RAM / swap functions so all of this is new to me. With this new notebook and new installation of Slackware 13.1 I decided to give it a shot as it's definitely a power sucker. The machine is a Lenovo W510 with an NVidia graphics card running KDE. When I tell KDE to go to Sleep (RAM suspension) it looks like it does so properly by blanking the screen and pushing things to RAM. Is there a way to verify that Sleep is working? Anyway after unlocking the system my mouse pointer is no longer visible, however it is still active as I can hover over items to reveal their popups.
At this point none of my conky displays are transparent anymore, nor are they actively displaying stats. The windows I have set to display with 88% opacity are no longer as such and are completely opaque. It is as if all the custom window settings are ignored. If I move the the mouse towards the bottom of the screen the screen starts to go crazy with this rainbow of colors across the top of the screen and the only way to get out of this is to press Ctrl-ESC to bring up a System Activity window. I have not tried Hibernate yet as I would like to get this resolved first. Is Slackware 13.1 supposed to be able to Sleep/Hibernate with no special configuration and creation of scripts provided that the system can handle these functions?

I'm trying to create some Linux partitions to install Slackware on my Lenovo W510 notebook and I'm getting some partition "errors" when using fdisk or cfdisk during the Slackware install. I have a feeling this is due to the hidden system restore partition and was wondering how others have dealt with this.

I'm running Slackware-current with AlienBob's multilib-packages.Since yesterday the touchpad doesn't always work. The touchpad has uper and lower buttons, often only the lower buttons work. The curser in the middle of the keyboard doesn't allways work. Here a link to a picture: [URL]Sometimes the whole touchpad doesn't work, after rebooting it is working again. The xf86-synaptics-driver package is installed. I have an errormessage: "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?" when I start a terminal. I've this subnotebook since last year and always been running Gentoo and Slackware64 without problems, but I deleted Gentoo last week, so I can't compare with another Linux-installation.

I'm trying to choose between the Lenovo Thinkpad W500 and the older T61p. The W500 is said to have a higher quality display than the T61p, however there seem to be more problems with running Linux on it. One of the reasons for this is the fact that it has switchable graphics, with one of the GPUs being an ATI FireGL. The older T61p comes with Nvidia Quadro FX only, which as we know is more Linux-friendly.
Which model should I choose? Will certain issues such as being able to suspend / resume be cleared up with newer kernel releases?

Now i have 64 bit computer i installed Slackware 23 64 bit on it. i followed Alien Bob's multi lib how to and installed needed libraries one by one. everything is fine expect wine configure script can not find some libraries needed: libgsm, libmpg123, libopenal, libxcomposite.
I have already installed 32 bit compatibility packages and used /etc/profile.d/32bit.sh as recommended in Alien Bob's howto. configure -- does not really list anything for pointing for libraries.

i tried following the readme file included in the driver of the usb network adapter but seems its not exact.
any ideas on how i can configure it manually? KDE does not detect any wifi device. .(of course since no driver is installed yet).
i used my desktop (win***)with DSL connection and installed the driver of the usb net adapter.. made it as the access point. . so my laptop detects the desktop as wifi spot.

I've just isntalled Debian 5.04 + Xfce. During the install, i didn't have the ADSL modem connected, therefore i didn't configure the network. Now I connect it but it doesn't work, Debian just won't recognize it. According to various guides I shouldn't need to do anything for it to work, so that's why I'm here.

after several hours I've finally gotten slackware running! But the only thing I don't understand is how to configure the touchpad. In Ubuntu you can do it in the GUI, but I have no idea how to do it via Slackware.
I mostly want it to disable tap to click when I type, and enable horizontal and vertical scrolling. I've tried using synclient but that doesn't seem to work, and in any case I think that is only supposed to be a temporary fix anyway.
how to update packages I've installed? I installed wicd to use wireless for my laptop, but according to their website, it's best that I update it to the newest version because of some bug.

I'm trying to find a VNC server for Slackware 13.1. I was searching around a little and I found that there are quite many. The most popular for slackware were tightVNC, x11vnc. I think in Slackware 13.1 is by default installed the libvnc but I can't find documentation on how to configure it.

I'm having some trouble getting my new copy of slackware connected to the internet. I'm new to slackware, so I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting. So far, I've run netconfig and tried to set up a DHCP and a Static-IP connection, both to no avail. I know my internet connection is working since I'm currently using the same box with a hard-drive that has crunchbang on it. I've read chapter 5 of the slackbook up to the section on PPP and have thus far gotten lost in my /etc/rc.d folder looking at lottsa neat files.
Using ifconfig -a gives me information about an eth0, an eth1, and a lo connection thing. From what I understand from the book, this means that slackware has registered my network card but does not have the right configuration necessary to connect.
I tried getting information about my connection from crunchbang, which was as simple as right-clicking a certain icon and copying down my interface, hardware address, driver, speed, security, ip address, broadcast address, subnet mask, default route, and primairy DNS. Since setting up DHCP didn't work after startup, I assumed I was using static I.P. I put in my IP address, mask, default route, and DNS, but it has not yet connected.
