1.) wget - won't use wildcards on an http server, and trying to get the whole folder just gets me index.html
2.) ftp - it's not an ftp server and I can't login anonymously via gftp. I wasn't expecting this to work, it was just something else to try.
3.) rsync - If this could work, I may not be using the right syntax. I tried (-n for a dry run first):

And it just sat there doing nothing until I hit ctl-c.
Obviously I could download each file from my web browser but I figured there had to be a more elegant Unix-y way without all the clicky-clicky. Are the files hosted on an ftp server anywhere?
I am a newbie regarding the Slackware, though i have some millage on Ubuntu. Anyway, i have Slackware 13.1 and slapt-get is really, really slow when downloading packages, even when i do slapt-get -update the slowness is just killing me
The second question is somewhat different. How can i view dependencies on which a particular application is depended?
I tried every torrent client I could find for linux, and it's getting on my nerves, neither of them want to start downloading anything, what can I do?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI do a clean install of slackware64 13.1 beta1 with KDE and switch default runlevel to 4 in /etc/inittab.
I try to login in kdm, I always come back to the login....
I try this with default runlevel 3 and an .xinitrc with "ck-launch-session startkde" .. works without problems, so I switch back to default runlevel 4, now i can login and only get the error "Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session..."

View 10 Replies View RelatedOn tis end I have a HP G71 laptop and Slackware v13 ...For whatever insane reason Slackware v13 does NOT come with Open Office and the user has to install the program on their own. With that said, I've gone the following route, several times and with zero success ... so you tell me:
.1. <usr> d/l the applicable Open Office files
.2. <usr> unpack the files by way of tar -xvp and end up with *.rpm files
.3. <usr> Switch to the RPM directory and use rpm2tgz to convert the *.rpm files to *.tgz files.
.4. <usr> to <root> su -c installpkg ooo*.tgz and do the same with openoffice*.tgz. All seems to go well here.
.5. <root> switch to desktop directory and remove Debian, Suse and Mandriva files.
.6. <root> convert Slackware file to *.tgz
.7. <root> installpkg openoffice
Using the above noted steps all seems to go well, until after re-booting and starting up "x" as either ROOT or as a USER ... nothing! The "x" window displays show the Open Office files to be there but clicking on them, all I get is a bouncing cursor for a few seconds - then nothing!

When clicking on a web link using the laptop touchpad, if I tap the middle of touchpad, the link will invariably open in a new tab, but tapping to either the LH or RH side of the touchpad opens the link in the existing window. Any FF gurus out there who may know of some hidden option that might be causing this, and how to disable it?, or do I need to file this as a bug?

I was trying to get Wicd to start automatically at startup so I found a chmod... line of code online and copy/pasted it on my command line. Now whenever I boot the computer, when I get to the KDE desktop, the BASH window opens, Opera opens and I get a bunch of Wicd error windows. How can I fix this?

Trying to do an install with encrypted lvm. I have made it to the end of the install and chroot /mnt and then ran mkintrd which added the modules successfully but then when I ran lilo again I got an error saying that said "fatal: can not open: /etc/lilo.conf".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trialling Slack 13.1 on a spare 32b system for a couple of weeks, and today I took the plunge and put it on my main machine. I completely re-partitioned the drive (using the Slack disk) and installed Windows7 on one partition and Slack 13.1 on another. The install worked fine and I tested that it boots from LILO into both Windows and Slack perfectly. I then ran:

slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
And since then it fails to boot with the following:

I installed wvdial on my Satellite Toshiba laptop. All works well but I have to use the <wvdial> command as root. If I try to use it as a user i get an error message Cannot open /dev/ttyACM0: Permission denied So Im just wondering; is it ok to use wvdial as root?

I've been successful in doing this by following the instructions here:slackware64-current/README_CRYPT.TXTBut after upgrade to cryptsetup-1.2.0-x86_64, when I boot up I get 'no such file or directory while trying to open /dev/mapper/crypthome'I have to manually type 'cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda9 crypthome' and mount each time to get into the encrypted partition.I expect to be prompted for the password on boot but I just get that error, what is wrong?my config files:
