On Slackware64 13.37 with a Geforce 6150LE + Nvidia 275.09.07, the contents of a window turn black when I maximize it.
For now I've worked around it by disabling desktop effects.
i currently use Slackware 13.1 64 bit. when i want to get back to console after use "startx" command, my monitor suddenly off and would not turn on until i restart my computer. so i could never get back to console when i've started x window.i use ATI HIS HD 5670.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen starting Xfce, there's a ~50% chance that the theme (no matter which one) doesn't work properly and all the window frames are black. Sometimes it does work, but I can't reproduce either - it's random.
I've had this problem before on 13.1 and somehow managed to make it disappear (I switched from KDE and blamed it on me not getting all the settings right immediately). However, after installing 13.37 and starting with a clean homedir, it happens more often that it did on 13.1 and I just can't get rid of it.
PS: The whole Slackware / X11 / Xfce setup is fairly generic, but I do use the binary Nvidia driver from SBo and I have two TFTs configured as separate X11 screens.
Got my Slack running on vostro 1310 for a while now. But just Today... first for what ever reason my wifi stopped to work (at boot time) even though interface was up as usual, driver was loaded, supplicant has not been touched etc. So I wired up a LAN cable and the at boot time I saw an information from eth0 that packet length is 0 and cannot be parsed (great no network at all). Tried to investigate the problem on a different machine, and one of the suggestions I've found was to set router to no security and see if wireless will connect. I thought that it would be a good idea to reboot the machine to attach to the rooter at boot time and no eth0,wlan1 tries to connect to the network and then I get a black screen instead of login window
View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have 10.4 installed. Whenever an application's window is maximized or overlaps the left 1/2 inch of the desktop, the entire desktop becomes very dark. This seems to happen with most GUI applications (with terminal being the exception). Does anyone know of steps to correct this behavior?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with two tiling window managers, scrotwm, and xmonad. I like xmonad better, but that's not the point. The point is that they both produce these strange black bars at the bottom when a terminal window is opened. Note that this does not happen in fluxbox/openbox, my other wm.

Note the black bar, or just dead at space the bottom of the the terminal windows. In the third image, the prompt is at the "bottom" of the window, or what should be. Again, this only happens in scrotwm and xmondad, no other wm's I've tested.
I was just curious if there was an easy way to check if a window is maximized in terminal (preferably with wmctrl and not by checking the x,y dimensions of said window)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI activated the Global Menu applet (the old one that you can get from the Webupd8 PPA, not the new one that comes with Natty). I also activated the Window buttons and the Window Title applets. In effect, when I maximized my window with these applets activated, there was no title bar and no menu. I couldn't really get it to look very aesthetically pleasing, though, so I ended up removing all of them.However, now when I maximize my windows, the title bar is still gone. I've looked through gconf-editor and think I may have found the culprit, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
There's a leftover key from the Global Menu applet for show icon. When I was fooling around with the applets before, I set that value to "true" as default. I've tried unsetting the key. I've tried uninstalling Global Menu and cleaning the configuration files. I've logged out and rebooted. The key is still there.Assuming this is the issue (and I'm not sure that it is), what should I do here?
Using Natty 11.04. Often when maximizing an application from the launcher or opening them from the indicator area the application will have focus but will be behind the application I had open before. So if I would then close the window I see I actually close the application I had just opened as the menu area is for the new application.Example.
I am browsing using Firefox. I open X-Chat from the indicator area. I still see Firefox. I decide to close Firefox (or minimize) to get to X-Chat. All I end up in doing is closing (or minimizing) X-Chat because it had focus, the menu at the top was for X-Chat and not Firefox.This has had me launch and close many applications in error. (Extended desktop)When I maximize any window in my external monitor, the window gets under the panel, instead of getting maximized properly. Is this a bug?I just tried to move the panel to my laptop's desktop, and the size of a maximized window in that screen gets adjusted properly. So I guess it is a bug related to the extended desktop
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf any window opens initially on full screen (maximized) the "desktop effects" switch off. I then have to reset "enable desktop effects".
It happens with any window from any application that opens full screen.
If a window is maximized after it has already opened all is fine, it does not stop the desktop effects.
Running: openSUSE 14.4
I was wondering how i could achieve this. I know about !state=maxvert but this removes the titlebars on all applications.(any)&!(name=opera) will do this just for opera but the problem is when i unmaximize it the titlebar will still be gone.How can i make sure that all applications will have their titlebar when maximized exept opera and firefox, and all applications inclusing these 2 have titlebars when unmaximized?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAnyone know the trick to getting Ubuntu to show the contents of a window while I resize it? It WAS doing this until I loaded up the drivers for my Nividia Quador 135M (works great!) I'm very happy with my Ubuntu 9.10, I even have all the bouncy window effects running.
Still, I would love get rid of the "faded blue resizing box" and see the contents instead.
I'm obviously having a problem with my onboard video but don't know how to fix it. Ever since I upgraded to Natty, if I maximize any window or resize it to more than about half the total area of my monitor, the contents of the window go totally blank. I can still see the window's title bar, but there's just a blank white space beneath that. I never had this problem before the upgrade. What do I need to do?

My computer screen will sometimes just 'turn black' and become unresponsive, and I have to shut it down and restart. (The longest I waited was a few minutes with no response. The reason is because nautilus takes a few painful seconds to open up with the effects turned on and some times I end up clicking a folder etc a second time thinking it hasn't opened.
I've been struggling a while with getting the iMON LCD/IR-receiver on my Antec Fusion Black case to shutdown together with the system (XBMC Live 10). But it won't. When it's turned off the LCD still lights up the whole room. Many have proposed the "solution" of setting the machine into hibernation instead but that however won't work for me, since I'm unable to suspend my system.
It is the LCD/IR-module that prevents me from suspending and I haven't found a solution to properly unload it on suspending (it's way above my linux knowledge). getting the display to turn off the backlight when the system is turned off.
how to get the eject function to work on my Antec Veris rm200 remote I would be very grateful, I was told about that it could get fixed with irexec but I do not know how since I haven't been able to find a good tutorial on the subject.
Some time ago, more than a year, and while using linux mint, I had created a shortcut to turn off and on the decoration of the focused window. Now, with compiz settings manager (not the simple one) I cannot find such an option. Any ideas?

Don't know how to go about this, as I don't even know what the feature is called. klipper doesn't always store the latest clipboard contents in its history in kde 4.3.5. I have "ignore selection" and "separate clipboard and selection" set in Klippers settings. When i open a new program, for example - kwrite, type some text in it, select some of it and hit ctrl+c - copied text doesn't show up in klippers history list. It seems that klipper misses the first copy operation done in newly launched applications, only by copying the same (or some other) text again klippers menu entry shows up. This seems to happen with only newly launched application, when i had kwrite window already open, opening a second window and performing copy worked fine with klipper.

Starting system-->selecting ubuntu from grub menu-->ubuntu splash screen comes and it loads fully-->black screen is displayed instead of login window.. Restarting the system and the prob is gone..able to login properly..
This problem is ocurring randomly..sometimes i can login in 1st attempt properly,other times i have to restart the system twice or even thrice to get to the login screen.. what can be the possible reason to this...I have not done any updates also..
