If any window opens initially on full screen (maximized) the "desktop effects" switch off. I then have to reset "enable desktop effects".
It happens with any window from any application that opens full screen.
If a window is maximized after it has already opened all is fine, it does not stop the desktop effects.
Running: openSUSE 14.4
when using desktop effects windows seem to get stuck in mid-animation and produce ghost windows which will disappear and go back to normal if i click on a blank area of the desktop.Its not a huge problem, everything else works really well and the issue goes away when i turn the desktop effects off. was wondering if anyone else has seen this?? I am running SLI on quad nvidia gpus so maybe this is a driver issue??

(Extended desktop)When I maximize any window in my external monitor, the window gets under the panel, instead of getting maximized properly. Is this a bug?I just tried to move the panel to my laptop's desktop, and the size of a maximized window in that screen gets adjusted properly. So I guess it is a bug related to the extended desktop

But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.
I installed Gnome desktop environment recently then ;I' ve lost KDE desktop effects settings. I just can see Compiz Configirator. I cant configure effects independently. There is same settings in gnome and kde. And also I cant change windows appearence.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI activated the Global Menu applet (the old one that you can get from the Webupd8 PPA, not the new one that comes with Natty). I also activated the Window buttons and the Window Title applets. In effect, when I maximized my window with these applets activated, there was no title bar and no menu. I couldn't really get it to look very aesthetically pleasing, though, so I ended up removing all of them.However, now when I maximize my windows, the title bar is still gone. I've looked through gconf-editor and think I may have found the culprit, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
There's a leftover key from the Global Menu applet for show icon. When I was fooling around with the applets before, I set that value to "true" as default. I've tried unsetting the key. I've tried uninstalling Global Menu and cleaning the configuration files. I've logged out and rebooted. The key is still there.Assuming this is the issue (and I'm not sure that it is), what should I do here?
Using Natty 11.04. Often when maximizing an application from the launcher or opening them from the indicator area the application will have focus but will be behind the application I had open before. So if I would then close the window I see I actually close the application I had just opened as the menu area is for the new application.Example.
I am browsing using Firefox. I open X-Chat from the indicator area. I still see Firefox. I decide to close Firefox (or minimize) to get to X-Chat. All I end up in doing is closing (or minimizing) X-Chat because it had focus, the menu at the top was for X-Chat and not Firefox.This has had me launch and close many applications in error. For now I've worked around it by disabling desktop effects.
I've installed Openbox from the repo and when I log out of gnome and go to log into openbox, GDM restarts. It does this with IceWM too, and even TWM. Am I missing something? A config file that needs modified?

I know about !state=maxvert but this removes the titlebars on all applications.(any)&!(name=opera) will do this just for opera but the problem is when i unmaximize it the titlebar will still be gone.How can i make sure that all applications will have their titlebar when maximized exept opera and firefox, and all applications inclusing these 2 have titlebars when unmaximized?

View 9 Replies View RelatedLast night I was playing around with Desktop Effects and set the composting engine to Xrender, it was openGL. And things started to slow down tremendously. There is now lag on Alt+F1, lag when mousing over hidden taskbar, lag when moving windows, etc. I was trying to get rid of a trail of images when moving windows around. I created more problems. Things got even better when I tried to change back to openGL:
"Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Setting will be reverted back to previous values. Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advancde options, especially changing the composting type." The same thing happens when I click on "Default", the default options disable desktop effects.
I've a question about KDE desktop effects. How do I directly enable KDE desktop effects in KDE? Now I have to enable Gnome desktop effects, then KDE desktop effects will be enabled. When I select "enable desktop effects" and press "OK" in KDE, it will tell me "... X configuration ..." something. What the hell is that? I never met this problem in Gnome. Is it a KDE's bug?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting this weird behavior when I have Desktop Effects enabled. When it is on, it's like there are two or three vertical and horizontal lines running across my screen that distort any of certain font characters that are under them. In some cases these characters are trimmed slightly, in others they have an odd skew to them, and in still others the letters are completely removed/missing/invisible. With Desktop Effects disabled, everything appears as normal. I have attached a screenshot in which you can see there are at least three letters missing from the left side (Desktop Effects enabled) and not from the right side (Desktop Effects disabled). There is a missing 'l,' a trimmed 't,' and a distorted 'p.' I'm on a one-week-old 11.4 install with nVidia drivers installed from that repo.
As far as I can tell, Desktop Effects works with few other issues, although there are some aggravating ones (having to click task tray items multiple times to get a response, multiple windows highlighted in the menu bar as though they all had focus, etc) that I will look into once I get this one key issue taken care of.If any other diagnostic information might be useful, please let me know and I will provide ASAP.
I am Running opensuse 11.4 (64 bit) KDE desktop with all the updates & proprietary ATI driver installed. My processor is Athlon II X2 250 & motherboard is gigabyte MA785GPM-UD2H. I have 4 GB (2 +2) of DDR 2 RAM installed. I have turned off automatic updating & usually update my machine once a week. But just couple of days ago I had just updated my system and KDE desktop effects stopped working!!
I went to the Application launcher -> Configure Desktop -> Desktop Effects and everything was grayed out!! except for the following message Desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical issues:"

When I first installed OpenSuse, the sound and video drivers worked fine. But now, even after a new install and some basic driver-installation procedures, I can't get either one to work properly: I can't enable desktop effects (and when I try, metacity window decorations become invisible), and sound doesn't play through my headphones. I know the headphones are fine because they work on my Sansa, and I know general sound is fine because sounds work when I just use my laptop's speakers, but both combined somehow simply don't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried just about every thing I can find to get this to work on my laptop but have had no luck.Now this is the weird thing I can boot a Live CD of openSUSE 11 Gnome and make the Desktop Effects work no problem, but installing ATI drivers and unstalling ATI drivers still will not let the Desktop Effects work. I have tried all that I know and here are the xorg confs from both.

This message shows up when I attempt to. " Desktop effects are not supported on your current hardware / configuration. "When I enable it my monitor becomes extremely distorted before it reverts back to original settings.Under hardware information > Display > Geforce 6150SE the driver is listed as nouveau. Issue 2: Flash video such as ..... videos are now unable to render. When playing a video it is also distorted and unwatchable.
