Slackware :: New Glibc Updates Made Kde3 Unstable In 12.2 And 64 13.0?

glibc-2.9_multilib-x86_64-5alien_slack13.0
Now many kde3 related apps crashes, forcing me to xkill and kill PID.I can't duplicate konqueror windows anymore, using the blue "k" icon top right. The window freezes. In Slack64 13.0, i even have a 100% cpu usage.Kwrite crashes from time to time.Erasing a file can crash konqueror etc.. Should i recompile all kde3 ? Should i recompile qt3 ?

May 15, 2010I've tried a few different ways to install the ATI graphics driver "fglrx" to get 3D acceleration.If I try to install using the standard file "ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run" from the ATI web site it appears to work but then I discover it actually got an error.I saw a reference to ATI requiring 32-bit libraries to install their 64-bit driver. Is there a link or post that explains how to add the 32-bit libraries. Will that solve the problem, or will I just waste more time trying that?

Nov 3, 2010I was trying to plug projector on my laptop with slackware 13.1 installed. The problem is that the projector stops showing whenever I start X. I can see everything starting from LILO loader, but whenever I type "startx" - bam, no signal or just a black screen on the wall. I try to switch to console mode with ctrl+alt+f1 - the view appears, switching back to X with ctrl+alt+f7 - view disappears. I am using awesome WM. I tried XFCE, but the result was the same. Nov 23, 2010I've got an atheros ar9287 based card with the ath9k driver from the base install of lucid and I installed a compat wireless patch via this thread: [URL]... to fix the issue of the card being stuck on a given channel when using aircrack. Now, my system freezes up after about a minute or two. If I leave the wireless card off, everything runs fine no problem. I uninstalled the compat wireless driver via the readme just make uninstall in the compat-wireless folder, but I still get the freezes. So I assume it has something to do with the patches. I have no idea how to remove the patches. Can anyone help me with this or is there a way to get everything up and running so the original problem of being stuck on a channel is fixed?

I've been on a custom compilation kick for a while, and just been wanting to do everything compiled myself, just to learn a lot. Including putting linux on my WNDR3700 router using DD-WRT. Still doing a lot of customization on that as well.

Debian Hardware :: Wifi: Ar9271 In Squeeze: Compat-wireless Or New Kernel?
May 22, 2011I'm trying to get a TP-Link TL-WN821N WiFi USB dongle to work. I bought it because I thought it was based on the Atheros ar9170 chip (which is supported in Squeeze), but I've since learnt that it was based on the ar9271, which is only supported from kernel v2.6.36 on. I've read several threads on the subject, but I'm still confused about what I should exactly do. Since it is stuff that can potentially make the partition unbootable, I prefer to ask rather than to tinker.
I've read that upgrading the kernel would do the trick. The Liquorix kernel is especially recommended in one of those threads. However Liquorix only supports Sid and Testing. Apparently, you still can install it by fetching gcc 4.5 from the Sid repository, then install it... I'm a bit wary of screwing things up though... Another route appears to be the compat-wireless tool. I've downloaded the latest 2.6.32 release of compat-wireless (see here), but there's no reference to the ar9271 in the README. Is it appropriate nevertheless (they refer to an online list of supported drivers that was updated after the release... not sure what to make of it)? Otherwise, can I install the so-called "bleeding-edge compat-wireless" with a 2.6.32 kernel? BTW, I know that I'll also need the ath9k_htc firmware to be installed.

The thing is that when I try some of the solutions this is what happens:When using apt-get install esound, the package manager wants to remove pulseaudio-esound-compat & ubuntu-desktop. When using apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-alsa, the package manager wants to remove libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio & ubuntu-desktop
The sound is working flawlessly except for those two games, and I'm not sure if removing those packages (especially ubuntu-desktop) will make a mess. So I guess my question is What will be the impact of removing those packages? To rollback the system I just remove the new packages and install the old ones?

I've always used kde3 just because I can let the autohided panel to appear when the mouse hits the opposite side of the desktop (I think it is a sane behaviour to avoid to accidentaly unhide it while I operate on toolbars and buttons near the location of the panel), so I looked for the same feature inside the new uselessly eye catching d.e. and I couldn't figure out how to get this basic, but powerful, feature.

I noticed good reasons to stick to Gnome but also noticed I cannot shutdown, restart or suspend from the KDE, there are no buttons on the menu for this, I can only change user and use Gnome to shutdown, restart or suspend. Feb 4, 2010I have been using openSUSE 11.0 for some time now and love the feel of KDE3. Especially KPager, which shows me at a glance what is open on each desktop. This is really important when I am doing cad design with my Win-XP CAD, running in vmware in one desktop, interacting with my linux CAD in another desktop, gathering data from the www with Firefox in another dektop, while my emails and Skype are on the 5th desktop. So, on a 'spare' pc I decided to try openSUSE 11.2, KDE4 version.
To keep it short, I am extremely uncomfortable with KDE4. It may be fine for wizzie, pretty applications but I find it extremely cumbersome - dare I say it - like Windows 7 and worse still, there is no KPager functionality. Can the KDE3 KPager be downloaded from source and be compiled in KDE4? If not, how long will KDE3 be around before it is superseded by KDE4?

Nov 8, 2009I am trying to run the KDE3 version of Basket in KDE4. The KDE4 version is very buggy. I am running Arch Linux with KDEmod. The problem it seems is that Basket tries to connect to the DCOP server but fails, and then crashes. Of course DCOP is only in KDE3 and not in KDE4. So how do I go about running Basket?

Mar 1, 2010A while back Yahoo changed their log on methods and Kopete, Pidgin, and several other 3rd party messengers had serious issues. Pidgin patched up no problem. Kopete has a newer version that fixes this but it requires KDE4 which is still classified as unstable. Since I do not want to make my machine SID and I want to keep it as Debian Lenny I am limited to KDE3 and can not get the latest version of Kopete. I have googled like mad and havn't found a patch for Kopete 0.12.7 to fix the yahoo login issue.

Nov 16, 2009I am currently running openSUSE 11.2, but I do not like the KDE4 interface. I downgraded everything back to KDE3, but kept the KDE4 artwork. The NetworkManager program under KDE4 works fine and can connect to my home wireless network. However, The previous of NM cannot cannot connect to any wireless network.
I find it kind of odd, since KNetworkManager is just a frontend to the real NM, with was not actually changed when I downgraded.
