I have a few kde3 apps installed on my kde4 11.2 system. I was wondering if there is a way to get the colour scheme that I use in kde4 to work with the kde3 apps (in particular amarok 1.4.10).
View 2 RepliesI use a custom theme on Gnome. I use "New Wave" controls. Next i customised colours to get the Ubuntu purple, rather than orange. This however does not apply everywhere. If i hover menus, highlight text it's OK. On buttons and other controls it remains orange however.
I tried with gnome colour chooser and it seems to override the text only. How can i get read of this (in my opinion ugly) orange and see my (in my opinion far better ) purple tint on my controls?

I've always used kde3 just because I can let the autohided panel to appear when the mouse hits the opposite side of the desktop (I think it is a sane behaviour to avoid to accidentaly unhide it while I operate on toolbars and buttons near the location of the panel), so I looked for the same feature inside the new uselessly eye catching d.e. and I couldn't figure out how to get this basic, but powerful, feature.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using openSUSE 11.0 for some time now and love the feel of KDE3. Especially KPager, which shows me at a glance what is open on each desktop. This is really important when I am doing cad design with my Win-XP CAD, running in vmware in one desktop, interacting with my linux CAD in another desktop, gathering data from the www with Firefox in another dektop, while my emails and Skype are on the 5th desktop. So, on a 'spare' pc I decided to try openSUSE 11.2, KDE4 version.
To keep it short, I am extremely uncomfortable with KDE4. It may be fine for wizzie, pretty applications but I find it extremely cumbersome - dare I say it - like Windows 7 and worse still, there is no KPager functionality. Can the KDE3 KPager be downloaded from source and be compiled in KDE4? If not, how long will KDE3 be around before it is superseded by KDE4?
I am trying to run the KDE3 version of Basket in KDE4. The KDE4 version is very buggy. I am running Arch Linux with KDEmod. The problem it seems is that Basket tries to connect to the DCOP server but fails, and then crashes. Of course DCOP is only in KDE3 and not in KDE4. So how do I go about running Basket?

DCOP is installed with the KDE3 dependencies. How do I properly run an app that requires DCOP? Or is there another workaround?
my grandfather uses a linux machine for web browsing, emails etc. So he mostly uses Firefox, Thunderbird and sometimes also Skype and now he has also Jabber account. Currently there is Pclinuxos 2009 installed (the newest one with KDE 3.5). I used a frozen community repository, but this also brings the problem I cannot update the used programs as I am afraid it would attempt to replace the old KDE as well.
I know I can update Mozilla apps by downloading a static rpm and install with KPackage or Konsole and similar with LibreOffice. Not much friendly... I also discussed switching to other WM - but GNOME surely not, maybe Xfce (other ones have other issues).
Is it possible to somehow make KDE4 to behave like KDE3.5 in some ways? At least auto-mounting of flash drives etc.
Does kde3.5 differ much in memory requirements from kde4? I'm running kde4 on an old thinkpad with 256mb ram and everything is a little slow...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Gnome as my default desktop but have KDE3 installed to run KDE software on Gnome. Because Suse-users are mostly KDE users I checked the KDE to see why. I noticed good reasons to stick to Gnome but also noticed I cannot shutdown, restart or suspend from the KDE, there are no buttons on the menu for this, I can only change user and use Gnome to shutdown, restart or suspend. I checked my laptop and noticed the same problem. Both computers have installed suse 11.1 Gnome2.24 and KDE3. (one user) default How can I add a shutdownmenu? I cannot find other users with this problem on the forum.

Having a problem with the menu font colour in GTK apps (firefox & thunderbird).
All menus in all other apps have the correct font colour (black) but as you can see in this screenshot the font colour is white for thunderbird.
The only way I can find to change the text to black is to change in Configure Desktop > Appearance > Colours The setting for "selected text" to black.
Now I could be wrong - but I am pretty sure this should not be the setting that effects the menu colour in GTK apps.

Using QTCurve window style Have also set GTK Style and Fonts to use QTcurve and KDE font settings.
I do remember QTCurve in Opensuse had a button to apply its settings to KDE3 & GTK apps but this is not present in the QTCurve version on 11.3
I have KDE in openSUSE 11.3 64 bit and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series video card
and these drivers:

I suspect it's caught in low res colour. How do I find what resolution color I'm running, and how do I adjust it if it is low?

but doesn't seem change nothing, and doesn't appear "zenbur" in "Default Scheme", or even directly in kateschemarc but it is empty!
I'm running openSuSe 11.3 and KDE4.5, but the only version of KDirStat that I can find in the repos is dependent on the KDE3 libs. Is there a version available for KDE4.5? Or maybe something else equally as good (apart from running WinDirStat under Wine)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed openSuse 11.4 64bit with KDE 4.6 and that's when the trouble started. If I put a data or mp3 cd in the drive it can be mounted. Simple audio cds refuse to mount, giving me only the option to play on one of the audio players. Since I wanted to move some music to the computer I've had to resort to windows to copy files then transfer them. How can I force KDE/Suse to behave the way I want or do I have to revert to an earlier version with KDE3.5? I suspected that System Settings/Removable Devices was where I needed to be but nothing I did worked. So then I tried playing with System Settings/Device Actions and again nothing seemed to work. I can't mount the CD manually,I get this (using su -c "mount etc"

I used KDE3 with 11.0 with some KDE4 apps till I needed some applications from the KDE4 factory tree and mistakenly left the repository active. Next time the online update also updated most of the applications I would rather keep, and as a result the KDE3 disappeared from the KDM login choices. So I have two questions:1. how to enable users to select KDE3 at login (currently I have to select failsafe mode and run startkde manually)2. how to replay back an update I didn't want to have?
Perhaps a combination of the above: can I upgrade to OS11.2 and keep KDE3? (please don't tell me to switch to KDE4, I acknowledge and appreciate the effort and the improvements that KDE4 got, but it's still not a replacement for KDE3 - there are so many simple things which are impossible in the new version)
i changed my kde color scheme and it changed firefox's and opera's color scheme. sometimes it can be difficult to read links or articles on web pages. i don't want to change their default color schemes. how can i do that ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Ubuntu server with encrypted LVM2 (logical volumes - /, /var,/tmp,/home etc.). I need to migrate this to an OpenSUSE 11.2 server (cannot use a later version due to the availability of a binary-only module - that is just the way it is). When I fire up the installer, I cannot seem to find an option to mount the encrypted disk (/dev/sda) which has the LVM2 structure. I do not want to lose /home (logical LVM2 volume), so a clean blank slate install is not an option.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing a wierd bug. Been having it for some time now. I haven't posted about it before since its only been annoying, but not really setting me back. And I have trouble defining and explaining the bug. Today it crossed the line into actual annoyance.
The bug occurs when I'm writing, using the keyboard on my laptop. Both when I write in browsers, like when writing this post, and when I write in openoffice. So its not limited to one program. In webbrowsers what happens is that all of a sudden the browser loads the previous page in the tab. Like I told it to go one step back. In OpenOffice something similar happens. The curser jumps up in the document.
I used to have this bug when touchpad-tapping was enabled. I have a habit of drumming my thumbs on the touchpad when typing. Therefore I've disabled tapping on the touchpad. The bug is reocurring, however I have not found a way to reproduce it. It might be a key combination I accidentally hit when typing away, but I'm not sure.
I searched every which way I could to find this out, but to no avail. Can anyone address this query?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing a strange problem with Plasma locking up. Running system monitor it shows the KDE4 process using 20% CPU time, and Plasma around 10-15%. This seems way too much since on my six year old Laptop the cpu load of both processes is barely noticeable. My Laptop is an old single core 3000+ AMD Athlon 64, while my Desktop has a Quad core Xeon 2.33Ghz chip, so the fact that the KDE4/Plasma system load is many times higher than on the Laptop, indicates something is wrong.
I'm not sure what else to look for troubleshooting wise, any suggestions? *Actually, thinking about it, the KDE4 process is timing out one CPU core, which indicates to me something is really not right.
I am hitting a wall here - with the new 4.4 installed and working well, the one thing that is killing me is not being able to read the active taskbar item or the plasma peanut menu (see screenshot. You can see that the firefox and gimp are "active" and too dark to read, while kwrite is inactive and readable.They are BOTH too dark, and I cannot seem to find the option that controls those color elements.
