I'm trying to compile the bleeding-edge compat-wireless because I know there are some ath9k fixes in it because I use in on my Debian and Ubuntu machines; however, when I try and run make, I receive this error:
Code:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.38.8-35.fc15.i686/build: No such file or directory. Stop.

I've got an atheros ar9287 based card with the ath9k driver from the base install of lucid and I installed a compat wireless patch via this thread: [URL]... to fix the issue of the card being stuck on a given channel when using aircrack. Now, my system freezes up after about a minute or two. If I leave the wireless card off, everything runs fine no problem. I uninstalled the compat wireless driver via the readme just make uninstall in the compat-wireless folder, but I still get the freezes. So I assume it has something to do with the patches. I have no idea how to remove the patches. Can anyone help me with this or is there a way to get everything up and running so the original problem of being stuck on a channel is fixed?

I made a custom kernel for maverick, 2.6.35-27. And I want to get the latest Intel 5300 wireless card drivers working. The wireless works now, but I want to get these installed anyway. I've been on a custom compilation kick for a while, and just been wanting to do everything compiled myself, just to learn a lot. Including putting linux on my WNDR3700 router using DD-WRT. Still doing a lot of customization on that as well.

Just installed 11.3 on a older Dell Dimension 8200 with a D-Link DWA-160 N dual band USB card. The install went ok and the card works (seems a little slow right now but that is next on the list). However, when I run YOU I get the following conflict:
"compat-wireless-kmp-default-2.6.37_k2.6.34.0_12-17.1.i586 requires kernel (default:drivers_usb_core)=6faa2c62dac4f41d, but this requirement cannot be met. Uninstallable providers: kernel-default-base-2.6.34-12.3.i586[openSUSE-11.3 11.3-1.82]"
when the system wants to install patch:Kernel-3038.noarch and patch:Kernel-3709.noarch. I cannot seem to find a suitable provider for the default:drivers_usb_core. Is this something to address here or do I need to go to [URL]?

I have an HP DV7 laptop with AR928X Wireless Network Adaptor.Running 11.2.Wireless link was fine for 802.11G, but very flaky when I tried to move to 802.11N.I have downloaded the most recent compat-wireless for my kernel. How does one replace the "stock" version of ath9k with the new one, or does it happen "automagically" ?

I'm trying to get a TP-Link TL-WN821N WiFi USB dongle to work. I bought it because I thought it was based on the Atheros ar9170 chip (which is supported in Squeeze), but I've since learnt that it was based on the ar9271, which is only supported from kernel v2.6.36 on. I've read several threads on the subject, but I'm still confused about what I should exactly do. Since it is stuff that can potentially make the partition unbootable, I prefer to ask rather than to tinker.
I've read that upgrading the kernel would do the trick. The Liquorix kernel is especially recommended in one of those threads. However Liquorix only supports Sid and Testing. Apparently, you still can install it by fetching gcc 4.5 from the Sid repository, then install it... I'm a bit wary of screwing things up though... Another route appears to be the compat-wireless tool. I've downloaded the latest 2.6.32 release of compat-wireless (see here), but there's no reference to the ar9271 in the README. Is it appropriate nevertheless (they refer to an online list of supported drivers that was updated after the release... not sure what to make of it)? Otherwise, can I install the so-called "bleeding-edge compat-wireless" with a 2.6.32 kernel? BTW, I know that I'll also need the ath9k_htc firmware to be installed.

I've been trying to make/compile the driver for a wireless card. The card is usb, it's titled Micronext MN-WD550M and seems to use the rtl8712 driver.Firstly, though I did this once two years ago I seem to have completely forgotten how to install a driver in ubuntu.
Secondly, I'm not sure I have the right driver anyway since in the notes in the readme it says it is for i386 (I run amd 64). The driver is here [URL] Thirdly, after clicking through various readmes and documentation without feeling any more intelligent, I then tried using ndiswrapper to install a windows driver and ubuntu would crash if the usb wireless card was plugged in. Blarg.I feel like this should be so simple I'm going to make a clean installation of ubuntu 10.10 shortly (for various unrelated reasons) so anything I messed up with ndiswrapper should be back to normal.

1. Installed a fresh 10.10 and upgraded all packages (via Ethernet).
2. Downloaded latest drivers from ASUS webiste (DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422)
3. Unpacked and tried to compile:
The wireless card is working with the driver rt2870sta, but I've read not all the capabilities of the device is unleash unless the native driver is used.

I have set up a small Mesh Wireless Hotspot at a local Flea Market. My plan is to add in one of those HotSpot services for billing and such..ut until I have enough users to justify that expenditure, I am just going to manually set up accounts. The system is all up and running as an OPEN SYSTEM. Users are able to access the net just fine thru my existing setup. My question is, how can I create user accounts so that users of my wireless network will have a username and password that they can log in with

I am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.

Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

I am having a little trouble connecting to my wireless network. Running Fedora 10 32 bit.I'm trying to connect to a hidden wireless network. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I recently installed Quake 3 and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and after reading a lot on making the sound work, I found a great resource here. The thing is that when I try some of the solutions this is what happens:When using apt-get install esound, the package manager wants to remove pulseaudio-esound-compat & ubuntu-desktop. When using apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-alsa, the package manager wants to remove libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio & ubuntu-desktop
The sound is working flawlessly except for those two games, and I'm not sure if removing those packages (especially ubuntu-desktop) will make a mess. So I guess my question is What will be the impact of removing those packages? To rollback the system I just remove the new packages and install the old ones?

I've been experiencing a problem with Fedora in which when I enable Wireless in Fedora, Wireless networking does not work in windows. HOwever, when disabled, it works correctly. Windows claims it is "not able to find any networks to connect to"
EDIT: It seems that when wireless is disabled manually on fedora before shutdown, there are no problems in windows.

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.
Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:
1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.
2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).
3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

I dual boot Windows/Fedora 11 on my Dell Latitude D830 laptop, which has an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card and I have just bought a Linksys WRT160NL wireless router. I am currently trying to set up OpenWRT linux on the router. Because of the nature of my problem I have also posted this on their forum.I am having trouble connecting to my OpenWRT install via Fedora. Things seem okay in Windows, but when I try to connect from linux my laptop locks up completely and I have to hard reboot. I previously have never had any trouble connecting to any other router with this install of Fedora.

I've just install RALUS (linux backup agent) from BE 2010 R2 by manually uploading it to the server and then extracting it followed by executing the install script.
After the install i deleted the extracted directory, when i go to my Media Server i cannot browse for this server eventhough i already put the IP address of this server.
Here's my diagnostic regarding this error:
Code:
file: No such file or directory
Where can i download that file so that i can SCP to the proper directory in my Fedora COre 5 x86 Linux server ?

I am using Opensuse 11.2 on an HP Pavilion laptop. The internal wireless (Broadcom device) quit on me - It is no longer detected at boot so I assume it is dead. No problem since I have a D_Link USB adaptor (DWL-G132). To get it working however I need ndiswrapper. I then installed ndiswrapper 1.55 and the user interface supplied with Opensuse. Problem1- The interface says "The program 'kernel-headers' is missing on your system".
I have checked with Yast and the kernel-headers are installed. Problem2- I have downloaded ndiswrapper 1.55 from Sourceforge.net to attempt the traditional installation method. The 'make' command returns the following message: "Cannot find kernel version in /lib/modules/2.6.31.8-0.1-desktop/build, is it configured?."

I have been searching for hours now trying to find a PCI adapter for wireless internet that will work "out of the box" in my newly installed Fedora 10. I have found many blogs for older versions of Fedora, but nothing on the latest release. If anybody out there installed Fedora 10 lately, let me know the easiest way to connect to the internet via wireless. I am a newb trying to reduce the headaches involved in connecting to my wireless internet.
