I am trying to install a SDK into my linux machine...but the GCC version used to build the kernel for that particular SDK on the target machine is different from the GCC version I am using. How to overcome this problem without any need for me to change my GCC version?
View 1 RepliesI have just installed Slackware 13.0 64 bit on my laptop. I am trying to get my wireless card (Broadcom BCM4318) to work. It is dual boot with Windows XP 32 bit. I tried the ndiswrapper and everything seemed to go okay but when I ran ndiswrapper -l it said it was the wrong driver. Then I realized I was using the 32 bit driver from my windows install. Is there a 64 bit driver available. I can't seem to find one. I have searched the broadcom site but I guess this is too old for them to support. I previously used Zenwalk 32 bit on the laptop and ndiswrapper worked great. Should I be able to find a 64 bit driver or can I get the 32 bit to work? Do I need to go back to a 32 bit OS? I found the proper driver using google, downloaded, installed with ndiswrapper, rebooted and everything works. It connected automatically.

My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. This is a powerful card - I know ATI doesn't have a great reputation in the Linux world but I really hope there is a driver version I can install to get some good results.The rest of my specs are in my signature I need to install 64 bit Ubuntu to make use all of the system and video ram.

I have few questions since i manually builded xorg-server 1.8 im wondering what packages are dependent for x11 to be upgraded so everything run smoothly for xserver 1.8. are those xf86-input* and xf86-video* the only one or there are other packages that i have to get rebuilded? the second question: im wondering if im the only one for that having a problem of that lastest driver dosent work for me, for the purpose i rebuilded the driver and libdrm 2.4.20 with kms enabled once i installed xorg-xserver 1.8.0

After several attempts in setting up the rc.inet1.conf using alienbob's site as a guide, I'd like to see a sample of a working setup. My setup is very simple: home router and a desktop wireless, with wpa security. Using wicd is snap, but I'm tired of dropping connections; everthing worked with slack 13.0, but this 13.1 dropping wireless connection is driving me nuts, both on the desktop and the laptop.

Almost everything is looking good except the grid engine client. Does anyone know whether gridengine-exec (6.2u5) in squeeze is compatible with gridengine-master(6.2-4) from Lenny?
I've purged and reinstalled the grid engine packages on the updated box, but the gridengine-exec daemon seems to crash when it attempts to contact the server. qstat error: failed receiving gdi request response for mid=1 (got syncron message receive timeout error).

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen working in GIMP using a Wacom pen (which I do a lot), not all the lines I draw show up. Maybe every 1 in 5 lines, just don't show up, and it's like the brush outline freezes. This becomes pretty annoying when drawing, which is why I log in standard GNOME without effects when using GIMP.
There is a minor problem that I think may be related, and that is that sometimes when I open a windows in GIMP, such as the Save or Open dialog, I won't be able to click anything in it with my pen. I then need to click the canvas in the background, and after that everything works. It seems as though the brush is stuck on the canvas, which is similar to what happens when drawing. I've tried different compiz settings with vSync and others, but nothing that made this work. This also seems to only be a problem when using a Wacom pen, and not when using the mouse.
find a groupware solution that statifies KDE/Kontact and Thunderbird/Lightning users equally, I have stumbled upon a problem that appears to be Client related. While using Citadel, Thunderbird would sync its calendar using SyncKolab (IMAP-based) and Kontact would use GroupDAV. While Kontact worked perfectly, syncing with Thunderbird caused the calendar events to become 'invisible' to both Citadel and Kontact.
Now I am testing eGroupware, where Thunderbird sync's using CalDAV and Kontact still GroupDAV. Now events added by Kontact become invisible to eGroupware and Thunderbird when they are edited using Kontact... The Problem is hence in the way Kontact and Thunderbird handle their iCal entries (at least that's the only explanation I can come up with). Is there a known incompatibility between the iCal libraries of these two Clients? Has anyone had a similar issue? Is there a GroupWare solution that does not require me to setup a while network on a box (as in OpenXChange or Zarrafa) and still allows Thunderbird and Kontact to sync?
I have a problem with installing ubuntu 10.10 in my vaio cw. when I boot it , it doesn't show anything on my LCD but when I plug a monitor in , there would be an output. Also I have the same problem with 10.04 version.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried a few different ways to install the ATI graphics driver "fglrx" to get 3D acceleration.If I try to install using the standard file "ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run" from the ATI web site it appears to work but then I discover it actually got an error.I saw a reference to ATI requiring 32-bit libraries to install their 64-bit driver. Is there a link or post that explains how to add the 32-bit libraries. Will that solve the problem, or will I just waste more time trying that?

However, the speed I copied from one USB device to anther (both are USB 2.0 ) is around 4.4M/second, which seems to be very slow. I'm wondering if the USB driver is not powerful enough. By the way, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 .

Also how do I check the latest version available? I gather to update a driver I need to update the kernel so ill not be doing that but im trying to get more familiar with linux here. Ideally, it would be really, really simple having a web front-end that attaches to the database and just either reads data from it (or even enter data into it). Nothing too flash.

Years ago I remember M$ had the PetShop .Net app running on a SQL2000 environment easy to setup and simple enough to showcase the database and a simple front-end. A colleague wrote a small .NET app to just read the data from it and continuously scroll the data in a text box which was fine. Something like that on Linux would be perfect.
I attempted to run amarok from the menu and found it would never start there was no activity, I then tried to start it from the command line and I recieved this error..

This is a fresh install of Fedora 13, the kmod-nvidia drivers were just fixed I assume cause I tried to install them for a few days and they would fail. Well I guess they finally fixed the Nvidia drivers for 2.6.33.5-124.fc13.x86_64 but it has broken amarok..

I'm trying to setup bonding on two GigE cards. Things seem find but when I test out a couple different file transfers on samba, I'm getting a kernel panic. In the process I'm trying to update the e1000e driver (Intel 82574L). The problem I'm having with this is after I reboot, the old e1000e driver is getting loaded.
Here's some background. Installed is 10.04, upgraded and dist-upgraded:

So I downloaded and updated e1000e to version 1.1.19 by following their directions, first backing up the old driver:
