I have a Brother MFC3360C printer that I would like to use. Has anyone had any success getting this printer working.? I've had it working on Fedora and Mandriva in the past but haven't been able to get it going on slackware. Printer setup recognizes it correctly but It's not in the list of available drivers for it and Brother only has 32 bit drivers for Deb and .rpm on their website, no 64bit.

After trying without success change from windows to ubuntu (dual-boot unsolved problems), I decided to try slack as I have seen that user to user support for slack is usually best oriented and faster. But I am having some problems in order to install slack because of GPT support. As I know its a bad idea to start to asking for help without speak what I have tried, lets to this first:
At first I tried just to boot from DVD and went through the install using the help inside the disk. It doesn't work because either fdisk and cfdisk that are suggested in help doesn't offer support to GPT.
After that first try i looked to:url
But also it suggest the use of fdisk. However, it suggested too that I could use another partition application and since I have the live cd for ubuntu, I tried to partition from there and use those partitions for installation.
At first I tried to format as ext4, but i discovered that slack still dont offer support to this format (at least the version that I downloaded). So I tried again but this time using ext3 as format to my / and /home and use the swap offered in the application for use as swap (duh!)But every time I try to install using the dvd it doesnt find my partitions with fdisk, only with the parted command I can see my partition table displayed correctly. However, every time I try to run setup it say that it didnt found and linux partition (swap also when i try to target). So this is my dilemma, I cant use fdisk, in the parted manual (url) it only says that it supports ext2 (not mention ext3) and also i dont find any command to use with parted to mark the partition as 82.I ran through this 2 other posts (url), but as I am still waiting for some update there I decided to ask it here hoping to discover that this is an easy problem.

I'm trying to upgrade KDE from 4.2 to 4.3 since I encountered couples of problem with it and some people suggested me to upgrade it to 4.3.
Questions:
1. Is KDE 4.3 available in 64 bit?
2. KDE consists of bunch of packages, what is the best way to start? Should I uninstall the whole current packages in my machine and then install the new ones?
3. Using pkgtool, how do I know if I remove the whole KDE packages? Are all KDE packages named that begin with word "KDE"?
4. How to do this safely so to avoid corrupting the system?

I have searched around but found no solution to my problem so here it goes. I can't have any sound on a recently (re)installed Slackware 13.1 64bit. Running alsaconf shows me an option of:hda-intel Nvidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller hda-intel Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition then I get an ok from ALSA but still no noise... alsactl store tells me that there are no soundcards found. I also get a notification from KDE telling me that the device HDA Intel (ALC269 analog) does not work. See attached KDE1.png

Looking for moral support and guidance. Currently have 13.1 running nicely with the following partitions:
/swap
/
/home
/var
/usr/local
/notlinux (my name for a storage partition when I want to start all over again)
I have decided to tinker with Slack64-current with multilibs. My intent is to shrink /notlinux an add a new partition for 64's / . Then dual boot the system.
/swap and /usr/local
I see no problem with mounting these partitions in Slack64. I would have two 'tgz' directories [ tgz & tgz64 ] in /usr/local where I would seperate SBo packages (for my benefit). Don't know what having separate /tmp directories would have on sbopkg but that's not a material issue. confirm I can share these partitions.
/home
99 & 44/100 % sure if I changed/added my name from 'dad' to 'dad64' it would not be a problem sharing the /home directory. But what about keeping the same name/uid#, would things get fubared when I jump back and forth between 13.1 and current-64. Comments?
/var
Think I might be getting into trouble here. Suspect pkgtool, installpkg, upgradepkg ... would all continue to work because /var/log/packages would actually have different names [_64] for the 'same' package. At a minimum I want to share the mysql database so might have to create this as its own partition. Other than it would be a mess reading log file would sharing this directory be a major issue.

I've been using Slackware 13.0 32-bit because of a problem supporting RAID 0 metadata for Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I would like to move to 64-bit with Slackware 13.1 but I can't see any way to use a 64-bit kernel with my RAID setup. Because the "mdadm" in Slackware does not support the "-e imsm" option to read Intel Matrix Storage Manager Metadata I have been using "dmraid". Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding a way to make "dmraid" (a 32-bit application) work on 64-bit Linux. It appears that "dmraid" may be unsupported now, and I can't find a good place to get current source to compile on a 64-bit system. Essentially "dmraid" is only a program to interpret metadata and then configure the standard Linux device mapper to set up the required mirror or stripe mapping. So, it actually does not have to interact directly with the kernel.
I believe it only issues I/O requests to read disks and configure "dm" devices. So far I have not had to rebuild "dmriad" since Slackware 10. I don't know if 32-bit libraries are an option, or if those can be added to an initrd image (required to use dmraid before booting). People claim that "mdadm" will work with Intel Matrix Storage RAID 0 but I have never found any detailed information about how to do that. When I've tried the few examples I've run across on Slackware I just get an error that the "imsm" metadata format is not supported. I have not been able to locate a site to browse Slackware packages. I was hoping to find "dmraid" in the 64-bit packages. I think "dmraid" was at one time in Slackware but perhaps not any longer.

I just wanted to install openSUSE 11.3 64bit. Installation works fine until reboot request. It switches to console, saying that it tries to load without reboot, screen becomes black, i got a cursor with animated wait-symbol and then it freezes. Can't move the mouse, no reaction on keyboard inputs, HDD-led not blinking. If I reset my PC and boot the new installation, it says that an error occurred and asks me to complete the unfinished installation. It starts auto-configuration and freezes again at about 3%. I tried again and some time it did not start the graphical yast but in textmode. The freeze came at the same position, but it posted many lines on console with error messages. I could not scroll, so I saw only parts of it, saying kernel panic and many addresses.
I guessed that it has to do with my chipset and graphics card, it is a nVidia GeForce 9300 chipset (MCP7A) with onboard graphics. It works fine with openSUSE 11.2 64bit by the way, but it was not supported in earlier versions than 11.2. So I tried to install it with proprietary drivers. I started the installation again and added the nVidia repository and a Packman repo and selected the driver which works fine on 11.2. Error was same as above. Next I tried an openSUSE 11.3 32bit Live CD that came with some PC magazine and lay around and it is booting and works fine!
This was confusing to me, so I wanted to try the 64bit version of the live CD. Which was again not booting. It freezes at some part, maybe when it tries to start X. But it also freezes booting with 'nomodeset' (found it somewhere here), in VESA mode and even in textmode! So i guess it's not X what causes the freeze. But it is sometime at the end of booting up, as far as I can say. I would like to use the 64bit version but I don't know where to search for the problem. I checked every checksum before burning, so a broken media should not be the reason
