Ok so I did some stupid stuff and tried to install some of the Backtrack 4 tools. Installing backtrack4 tools with menu structure in Kubuntu 9.10 *NOTE* This WILL break your kpackagekit !!! You will need to reinstall kpackagekit after the installation is complete or fix it with synaptic. *This may or may not break your system so do at your own risk* For this to work you will need to follow these instructions EXACTLY as it is here. Go to: [URL] Download the tarzip and open it up. INSTALLING THE BACKTRACK SUB MENU STRUCTURE
Place the menu_backup folder in your home directory. <<----YOU WILL NEED THIS FOR THIS TO WORK Open the BT4-app-list folder and place the backtrack.txt1 file also in your home directory. Open a shell and type: kdesudo dolphin /etc/xdg/menus Delete the kd4-applications.menu file. (dont worry, I have provided a backup copy in the download) Open the BT4-kde4-applicantions.menu folder and place it where you deleted the old menu. Now you can exit.
Now you have the bt4 sub menu. ADDING THE BT4 GPG KEY AND REPO Open a shell and type: wget -q [URL] This adds the GPG key. Then in a shell type: sudo echo "deb [URL] pwnsauce main microverse macroverse restricted universe multiverse" > /etc/apt/sources.list

here is my setup I have win xp dual boot with Ubuntu Karmic, on hard drive I now want to install Bt4 on usb hard drive, will i just be able to install as normal then reinstall grub afterwards, also will the machine still work ok if usb drive is not attached on some occasions
My machine dos,nt allow booting from usb, ( i,e install from usb drive )

I have installed backtrack 3 on vmware workstation. I would like to install a TP-link TL-WN650G wireless card(atheros based - AR5005GS) onBacktrack because that it supports packet injection. Backtrack doesn't automatically recognize the device so I need to install the driver, I have done some research and found I needed to install the driver 'madwifi-old'(ieee80211 version) from here..http://aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=madwifihttp://madwifi-project.org/However I have no idea how to install them from inside backtrack, so if someone knows please let me know.

I have just installed Backtrack 5 and I don't know how to install the flash player! I have tried to install the package flasplayer-nonfree, I have tried to install from source (I found on the net that he plugin directory for firefox was ~./usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins and I moved the libflashplayer.so there). I have restarted firefox both times, but nothing, it still asks me to install the flash player, what can I do!

I was using windows 7 and I decided to install BackTrack 4 as an operation system so that I can have 2 operation system on my machine, during the installation, I accidentally formatted the windows 7 and right now, I am using only the BackTrack 4, now, I want to re-install back the windows 7 as an operation system but whenever I inserted my CD, it display this words under the Default: >/ubnkern initrd=/ubninit
It needed a command from me in other to proceed but am new in Ubuntu and I dont know what I should type or the command I should used in other to finish installing the windows 7.

I have a case where I need to install the development tools after the initial 5.3 installation. If I run yum installgroup "Development Tools" I get the following:
I can exclude the xorg entry and a dogtail dependency but it doesn't appear to install all the packages. I get the same if I run the install through Applications/add/remove software. I need to add these to a system so I can install StorNext filesystem software. I can select the development tools during the inital installation of the software and that works OK. Wouldn't installgroup install all the same or more packages as selecting the development tools option during the inital installation?

How do i install vmware tools on 11.2? I uninstalled the open-vmtools non-sense removed the remaining modules from it (no clean work from suse here) installed gcc, make, kernel-source and kernel-headers installed the vmware-tools rpm i started vmware-configure-tools and it says that my kernel was built with gcc 4.4.1 while i try to use version 4.4 now.(if i do a 'gcc -v' it clearly says version 4.4.1) so what ?! I said "yes" here, it tries to build the memory moudle and fails......

unable to install initramfs-tools error in Karmic I'm having a devilish time installing Karmic on my AMD 64-bit.
Today's missive is:
"Unable to install initramfs-tools."
"Check /var/log/syslog"
After a trying to fix a corrupted 9.04, I have attempted repeated installs of 9.10 on a completely reformatted clean drive. I can get the live CD working, but when I try the permanent install, using the guided full drive install, it stopped at "Unable to install initramfs-tools." and halts the base system install. I can't find anything on this for Karmic and Launchpad says it was superseded.
Can I skip this and go on? It showed a install list going forward, but if I can't put in the base system, how do I proceed? I've burned 2 9.10 disks, a new 9.04 disk, downloaded 9.10 via package manager while in Live CD and get errors on all during the install process. the check sums match on D/L, but I can't figure how to do a chksum after it's burned to disk. The file sizes do match, but when I go for the install something always halts it at different steps with different errors. No joy.
