General :: Boot - Delete Backtrack From The System And Go Back To Windows 7?
Oct 18, 2010I installed Ubuntu, with a dual boot functionality and worked great. I was recommended Backtrack 4 and I installed it in the system. Now, I try to use the dual boot with Backtrack, Ubuntu and Windows 7 and only Backtrack works. I tried the restore disks that I created when I got the laptop, but the problem persists. s there a way to delete this Backtrack from the system and go back to Windows 7?

as well as using Remastersys. Both methods certainly gave me a LiveCD with the applications I wanted, but I need the default desktop/files/theme/etc to be exactly as I have it. (am i making sense?)
Is there an easy method to modify the ISO i've already compiled?

Ubuntu :: LiveCD 9.10 - Error Message On System Shut Down
Mar 12, 2010Using the ubuntu live cd 9.10 I get weird error messages when shutting down the system, sometimes it is this one:
device removed: /freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_80_00_60_0f_e8_00
Other times it is bunch of errors saying something like:
i/o error/end request/dev/sector ****, with all different sector numbers..
These happens even when I have not installed anything, not using any flash drives etc...

Jun 5, 2011I run ubuntu, 2 partion, one primary for / , one for /home and ofc swap.When I run the Livecd, at the partition step I do:
-Custom
-Select my / partition to install
-When I select next I get the error "blah blah, must be probably a bug...." and system crashes.
After system crach I can't boot into Ubuntu or anything, it gets me on the "error 11 ( think is 11 ) grub> " screen.Also, I think its something with my nouveau drivers, I think i get an error when boots the LiveCD something like "fudc...". It happens really fast and I can't read it properly.I did this procedure twice to write the errors, but it happens too fast to check them out. Also, is there a way to prepare the system before installing the Fedora, to avoid these errors?
Ubuntu Installation :: System Not Booting Up With USB LiveCD / Vista Installer
Apr 11, 2010I have a Dell Studio laptop, which I am trying to make dual boot and in big trouble. These are the steps I completed.
1. Backedup all my important data on a USB drive.
2. Prepared a Ubuntu LiveUSB and booted in Ubuntu.
3. Used GParted tool to repartition my hard drive (320GB) as follows,
Partition 1 NTFS (Primary) ~50GB
Partition 2 NTFS (Primary) ~100GB
Partition 3 EXT4 (Extended)
Root EXT4 (Logical) ~20GB
Swap Linux-swap ~2GB
Home EXT4 (Logical) ~129GB
4. Accepted all these changes in GParted and restarted the machine.
5. Used VISTA installation disk to start VISTA installation on 1st NTFS partition (Partition 1).
-Everything was fine until now -
6. The VISTA installer took a really long time (around half hour) just showing copying files with 0% completion status message.
7. Somehow I got impatient and tried to cancel the installation.
Now, the problem is the system does not boot up even with my USB LiveCD or Windows VISTA installer. It just shows blank screen and nothing appears.

Mar 4, 2010I'm working on a tutorial using Backtrack 4 Live USB, and I would like to take a screencast of what I'm doing (not just screenshots)So far I have tried these application with limited success:-recordmydesktop -xvidcap -wink -istanbul -vlc -vnc2flvEach time I try the resulting files are generally choppy (at best 1 frame per second) and most don't even end up with a clear view of the screen each time.

Sep 25, 2010Trying to boot backtack 4 and I am running into issues. There are a few different options to boot from. And this happens with whichever option I choose.
Hda: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 {driveready seekcomplete error}
Hda: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x40 {lastfailedsense=0x40 }
Hda: possibly failed opcode: 0xa0
Other live distros work. I have tried 2 different isos and 4 different dvds. And the live boot works when I try it in virtualbox. Per a google search I turned plug and play os on and off in the bios. Haven't tried much else.

It recently had problems booting up, and now takes about 20 minutes to get fully started. Is it safe/advisable to run the demo version of Ubuntu from the LiveCD? May 12, 2011I'm trying to uninstall backtrack 4 and put windows xp on my hard drive. I bought the hard drive clean and immediately put backtrack on it I've never dual booted with windows. I kept getting the no-apic timer error when I stuck in my windows xp boot disk and booted from the CD. I then used my live backtrack 4 disk and deleted the partition so I have a blank hard drive (so I thought). I tried booting from the windows recovery disk and I kept getting the GRUB error 22.
I went back onto the backtrack 4 live cd and created a partition on my hard drive, tried to boot to the windows recovery disk yet again and now I'm getting the GRUB error 15. I've been at this for about 2 hours now and haven't found an answer anywhere. I've tried going sudo grub then doing find/boot/grub/stage1 and I get the error 15 in there as well. All I want to do is install windows. All solutions I've seen say to do fixmbr in windows command line but the only disk I can boot to is backtrack 4 so that's not an option.

Apr 8, 2010In what started as a quest to get free wifi, I have recently gotten in way over my head. After unsuccesfully trying to use a virtual drive, I decided to erase my HDD on my laptop completely, wiping out my Windows XP and installed Backtrack 4 in it's place.
My goal amongst others, was to create a 20% partition for Backtrack and run XP on the rest of it. Well, I couldn't figure out how to do it. My only option was format and install backtrack.
So now I'm typing on my iPhone cuz I know absolutely nothing about Linux or how it works. My computer has no Internet. It doesn't recognize my Ethernet NIC, my wireless card and probably alot of other stuff.
SO ANYWAYS I don't want to give up. I'm ready to learn. I guess the first order of business is to get my Ethernet Card working so I don't have to type on this damn phone. So how do I do it?

Nov 10, 2010I would consider myself an advanced user of Windows. I know some of the commands used due to my knowledge of PHP. I would like tri-booting Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, BackTrack 4 and Ubuntu Server 10.10 64 bit. Windows 7 is the main OS involved, which is on a HDD with about 800GB free space, so space isn't a problem. I have BT4 and Ubuntu ISOs downloaded and on DVDs ready to install.
Do I create partitions first in Windows or do I let the installer do it? What sizes would you recommend? What size for the swap partition?
What order should I install the two OS'? I already tried installing both of them, (Ubuntu first then BT4) but BT4 did not show up in grub when booting, even after updating grub through Ubuntu. I also think I make a mistake when installing Ubuntu as I didn't install any packages. I would like to use the gnome desktop environment on Ubuntu but every time I tried to install the package I got the error "package not found". So then I deleted both OS' and restored the MBR.
I'm using a 3G USB modem to connect to the internet. Will both of these distros work with it?
