Slackware :: Call To Lnusertemp Failed (temp Directories Full)?

Aug 4, 2010

I had a fresh install of Slackware 13.1 up and running. I was looking to use an app which could only run on a gnome distro. So I installed gnomeslackbuild. Ran into dependency hell so I gave up the ghost and decided to reinstall.Re-install resulted in a message "Call to lnusertemp failed(temporary directories full).Had this before a different machine and sorted with another install at the time.Tried this but it keeps coming up with the same message. (4 installs later).Quote:

OpenSUSE Install :: Call To Lnusertemp Failed?

Dec 11, 2010

I've hit a problem with KDE when doing an update. I get an error when logging in:

"call to lnusertemp failed"

I've cleared out the /tmp files, set my tmp files to be deleted on reboot, tried creating a new user, renamed .kde4 to luck.

I think that the best solution is to completely remove KDE and then re-install it. How do I do that? Alternatively, if anyone has a better solution, I'll try that.

Slackware :: Upgraded To 13.1 - Temporary Directories Full

May 26, 2010

I've upgraded to 13.1 from 13.0 but can't startx. I get this error;
'call to lnusertemp failed (temporary directories full?)'

When I ctl-alt-backspace there are numerous messages including these two;
'/usr/bin/kde4-config: symbol lookup error:/user/lib/
undefined symbol: _zn9qlistdatadetach3ev.
startkde: error: could not locate lnusertemp in /usr/bin/startkde: line
302::command not found.

Linux 13.0 worked OK right out of the "box" so I don't understand why this version has this problem. Was something changed from 13.0 to 13.1?

Ubuntu :: Moving Cache And Temp Directories To Ramdrive?

Mar 17, 2011

I just got myself a OCZ vertex 2 SSD and have been moving cache directories to a ram drive to try to help extend the life of my SSD and improve system performance. I have created a ram drive /tmp directory in fstab like soCode: tmpfs /tmp tmpfsnodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=1777 0 0 And have since moved my Firefox temporary files to the /tmp directory and it have gotten me thinking, what else can I move here. I am going to upgrade my computer to have 8gbs of ram which is way more than Ill ever need.I would like to move the transmission cache dir there but I dont know how to. Anyone have any tips on that? I was thinking of maybe a script that will run when I login to create a symbolic link?

General :: System Call To Know Files And Directories In PWD

Mar 3, 2010

I am searching for any system call similar to "ls" command we use in shell. My requirement is knowing the files and directories in curent working directory and process them based on there type. Here as of now I spawn another procees with system command like system
("sh ls -l | grep ^d | awk '{print $9}'").

Instead of this I want to use any system command where I can capture this information directly into my local character buffer. My opinion is that system calls will not spawn another process as a result less time it takes, another reason is once I use the system command again I need to capture the information to a local file then again read it into local buffer. I want to avoid the file manipulation here.

Ubuntu :: Possible? /temp/www/fake/ Contents (directory) Avaliable Through /temp/www/?

Dec 20, 2010

I have a web server whos DocumentRoot is:/tmp/wwwNow, /temp/www/fake/ is a directory that contains a series of other files/folders.What I want to do is access the files in /temp/www/fake as if they were in the root directory (/temp/www/)For example:

could either be located in "/temp/www/test.php"
located in "/temp/www/fake/test.php"

so "" would essentially call both directories. Is this possible? Whould I do this through apache or through the actual file system somehow? (Like some sort of symbolic link?) I would love to hear your input.

Fedora Servers :: NFS Drive - Mount System Call Failed

Oct 5, 2009

These are the settings on my server, which has a static ip:
[tim@computim ~]$ cat /etc/exports
/media/cavern 192.168.1.*(rw,sync)

[tim@computim ~]$ cat /etc/hosts.deny

[tim@computim ~]$ cat /etc/hosts.allow

When I try to mount the disk from my client machine I get the error:
[tim@localhost ~]$ sudo mount -t nfs /media/cavern
mount.nfs mount system call failed

Thinking the problem might be due to iptables I tried the following command as recommended by a book I found on google:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -i wlan0 -f -j ACCEPT
didn't help so tried disabling the firewall - still getting the error
Both machines are running FC11 - should i be using nfs4?

For anyone interested in testing new xorg stuff, here it is: [URL]. The good news is that this package set should work fine in either 13.1 or -current. The build box is 13.1, so I know they're compatible there; however, I'm running them on both 13.1 and -current systems, so I'm pretty sure they'll work on either. Be sure to read the NOTES file before you go digging around in PACKAGES.

Slackware :: Using Gmail To Call Landlines And Mobile Devices?

Aug 31, 2010

Last week google introduced the capability of using gmail to call other people in Canada or the US on landlines or mobile devices. This capability is free for 2010.
I gave this a try in Slackware 13.1 and it works. To do this I was browsing with Fire Fox 3.6.8 and logged into my gmail account. On the left hand side of your e-mail account window you will see a phone icon.

1. When you click on that icon you will be prompted to install the gmail phone application.

2. A download window will open asking you to download a .deb source. I downloaded it and then I used src2pkg to create a Slackware package, then installed it.

3. Re-launch Fire Fox.

4. Click on the phone application and call up people. The voice quality is quite good, I experienced little lag.

OpenSUSE Network :: Nfs Server On 11.2 - Mount.nfs: Mount System Call Failed

Apr 29, 2010

I've tried to get an opensuse box I have to share a directory via NFS. I've failed each time, but I thought that the third time, I'd enlist some help from the forums, if I could. how do I know that the nfs server and not the client is the problem? Short answer is: I don't! That's why nfs (and many netwrk problems) are laborious, you're troubleshooting needs to take place at both source and desitination. Next question, what do I have set up so far? Well, I did download the nfs server kernel stuff (two months back) and /etc/init.d/nfsserver start seems to get set up OK. No errors and the daemons nfsd, idmapd, mountd area all running. So, I *think* that part is OK. I have the share set up properly in /etc/exportfs and have "exportfs -r" it.

OK, now onto the trickier stuff: the client and iptables. On the client pinging to the nfserver box is perfect, and I have rpcbind running. the reported error is "mount.nfs: mount system call failed" though from experience nfs errors don't mean a whole lot. However, I will go off and check now and see if I need a mountd running on client-side too. Then there's iptables .... ouch, that could be a long and painful trek. I don't see any specific ports being blocked, and it's the iptables that the default v11.2 opensuse came with. I did turn them off and the problem was the same, so whether wishfl thinking or not, I'm hoping it's not an iptables issue.

Slackware :: NFS Directories Corrupt Or Disappear

Feb 6, 2011

NFS server is on Slackware-current64 and client is on 13.1. The directory being exported is vfat formatted on a firewire drive. I've been accessing this share on the client with Amarok and Juk without incident for a couple of months. Yesterday I decided to try out moc on the client with this setup. After many revisions to fstab options on both the server and client I still get the same result: after a couple of hours running moc post remounting and re-exporting, the directories on the nfs share on the client start disappearing or corrupting.

Slackware :: 13.0 With Full Multimedia Capabilities?

Feb 12, 2010

i am in the process of setting up my wonderful slackware system on my laptop, and now i would like to make sure i am able to run as much multimedia as possible (to be up to snuff in this realm with mac and windows users). i am running slackware x86_64 version 13.0 with a full install (but only with the software sets a, ap, d, f, k, kde, l, n, x, xap, y) and have installed flash-player-plugin from

recently i stumbled upon this website: [url] it explains precisely what i would like to know: which packages should i install to get a fully-featured multimedia slackware install (and in which order should i build/install these packages to take care of dependencies). i emailed the author to make sure this guide was up to date with slackware 13, but, sadly, it is not. it seems that mr. anderson uses slackware 12.2, and thus there may be inconsistencies between what this guide explains and what works on the newest slackware. for example, mplayerplug-in has been depreciated in favor of gecko-mediaplayer. i need to know if more of this has happened. i would simply test it myself, but i have been distro-hopping reinstalling repeatedly over the past few weeks for various reasons, and i am trying to avoid dirtying up my system too much and having to reinstall yet again.

so i ask of you, does mr. anderson's list apply to slackware 13.0, or are there any changes that need to be made? i ask because someone here may have already used this guide and may be willing to share their knowledge and experience on it. eric's vlc slackbuild is very interesting, and i plan to run that, so vlc and its dependencies are covered. my multimedia needs are not too demanding, but i do expect web media to work flawlessly. i often visit and watch movie trailers, guided tours, etc., so i need quicktime videos on the web to work. videos and online flash games already work fine with flash-player-plugin. i also visit some web sites that have windows media formats being streamed (.wmv and .wma).
