OpenSUSE Install :: Call To Lnusertemp Failed?

Dec 11, 2010

I've hit a problem with KDE when doing an update. I get an error when logging in:

"call to lnusertemp failed"

I've cleared out the /tmp files, set my tmp files to be deleted on reboot, tried creating a new user, renamed .kde4 to .kde4~old....no luck.

I think that the best solution is to completely remove KDE and then re-install it. How do I do that? Alternatively, if anyone has a better solution, I'll try that.

I had a fresh install of Slackware 13.1 up and running. I was looking to use an app which could only run on a gnome distro. So I installed gnomeslackbuild. Ran into dependency hell so I gave up the ghost and decided to reinstall.Re-install resulted in a message "Call to lnusertemp failed(temporary directories full).Had this before a different machine and sorted with another install at the time.Tried this but it keeps coming up with the same message. OpenSUSE Network :: Nfs Server On 11.2 - Mount.nfs: Mount System Call Failed

Apr 29, 2010

I've tried to get an opensuse box I have to share a directory via NFS. I've failed each time, but I thought that the third time, I'd enlist some help from the forums, if I could. how do I know that the nfs server and not the client is the problem? Short answer is: I don't! That's why nfs (and many netwrk problems) are laborious, you're troubleshooting needs to take place at both source and desitination. Next question, what do I have set up so far? Well, I did download the nfs server kernel stuff (two months back) and /etc/init.d/nfsserver start seems to get set up OK. No errors and the daemons nfsd, idmapd, mountd area all running. So, I *think* that part is OK. I have the share set up properly in /etc/exportfs and have "exportfs -r" it.

OK, now onto the trickier stuff: the client and iptables. On the client pinging to the nfserver box is perfect, and I have rpcbind running. the reported error is "mount.nfs: mount system call failed" though from experience nfs errors don't mean a whole lot. However, I will go off and check now and see if I need a mountd running on client-side too. Then there's iptables .... ouch, that could be a long and painful trek. I don't see any specific ports being blocked, and it's the iptables that the default v11.2 opensuse came with. I did turn them off and the problem was the same, so whether wishfl thinking or not, I'm hoping it's not an iptables issue.

Fedora Servers :: NFS Drive - Mount System Call Failed

Oct 5, 2009

These are the settings on my server, which has a static ip:
Code:
[tim@computim ~]$ cat /etc/exports
/media/cavern 192.168.1.*(rw,sync)

Code:
[tim@computim ~]$ cat /etc/hosts.deny
portmap:ALL
mountd:ALL
rquotad:ALL
statd:ALL
lockd:ALL

Code:
[tim@computim ~]$ cat /etc/hosts.allow

lockd: 192.168.1.2/100
rquotad: 192.168.1.2/100
mountd: 192.168.1.2/100
statd: 192.168.1.2/100

When I try to mount the disk from my client machine I get the error:
Code:
[tim@localhost ~]$ sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.1.10:/media/cavern /media/cavern
mount.nfs mount system call failed

Thinking the problem might be due to iptables I tried the following command as recommended by a book I found on google:
Code:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -i wlan0 -f -j ACCEPT
didn't help so tried disabling the firewall - still getting the error
Both machines are running FC11 - should i be using nfs4?

OpenSUSE Install :: How To Rescue Failed 11.3 Install

Jan 21, 2011

I have finally gotten around to installing 11.3 x86_64 on a deskside PC. All went well with the installation until the last package, fetchmsttfonts-11.3-1.1.5-noarch, failed to connect to a server and produced a "Command exited with status 5" error. I have not yet clicked the "OK" button on the error popup. Is there any way to rescue this installation?

I had tried once before, and had clicked the "OK" button before looking things over to see what was the issue since I'd figuredwas nothing that couldn't be sorted out later. However, it aborted the install with the system largely unconfigured. I attempted to fix it but gave up and started a new install from scratch, which failed as described above.I was doing a netinstall, using the oss, non-oss, and update repos.

I would like to avoid having to restart the install yet another time since I do not have the packages cached locally and most certainly do not want to go thru the package selection phase again since I'd picked quite a few additional packges. If I can rescue this one it would be great. If I have to start over, is there a way to import the list of packages from this install into the installer during a hew install

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Login Failed, VirtualBox 3.0.8?

I'm trying to run OpenSUSE 11.2 on VirtualBox (ver3.0.8 on Ubuntu 9.10). The installation proceeds without a hitch, but when I try to login, the login manager (kdm?) complains that the login failed. When I go to the console, my login/password do no work there either. I've tried installing OpenSUSE 11.2 three times -- the first two times, it complained about the simplicity of my password -- and all three times I've run into this problem.Have other users encountered a similar problem? It doesn't seem like a VirtualBox-specific issue. Is the /etc/password being changed somehow?

I just installed openSUSE. The installation seemed to go well. After installation, everything loaded up and I was using the OS with no problems.

I restarted the computer to change my boot sequence in the BIOS. Then I got to the openSUSE login screen. I was presented with three options:

1. my username - When I enter in the password I specified during the OS installation it says "Authentication failure"

2. Automatic Login - just says "Permission denied"

3. Other... - Nothing seems to work here

OpenSUSE Install :: Failed Dual Boot Win 7 And 11.3

Dec 27, 2010

I've been googling and couldn't find solution to my problem. In the past I was able to get around dual boot with Win XP but that Win 7 seems to be more resistant to dual boot. I have a Toshiba Portege T110 that came with Win 7 home edition. I parted the hdd using gparted and put Linux on extended partition. It was OK up till then. After installing Opensuse 11.3 and installing Grub in extended partition, grub came up but when I chose windows, I got error from windows boot manager saying it couldn't find winload.exe. I tried to manipulate the grub by typing:

rootnoverify (hd0,1)
makeactive
chainloader +1
boot

That didn't work at all. So I reinstalled Win 7. After Win 7 back up, I again tried to fix grub by doing this:

find /boot/grub/menu.lst (this gives hd0,5)
root (hd0,5)
setup(hd0)
quit

After rebooting, grub came back but when I tried to access win 7, I again got the black screen saying my winload.exe is missing. I'm reinstalling my win 7 for the 2nd time now. But I'd still like to get the dual boot with Opensuse 11.3 to work. What have I done wrong? Should I put grub in MBR or the mount point / ? or should it be left alone in extended partition? And how do I move grub to different place?
