i have installed nfs server on my redhat machine.when i want to mount shared data from client(suse)machine the following error occur. "mount.nfs: mount to NFS server '10.3.31.146:/home/usbtest' failed: System Error: No route to host" both machines ping each other successfully.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have everything networked properly, as far as I can tell, both computers see each other... I can use putty to port in and use my Linux machine (Debian 4). When I go to map network drive on my XP machine, I can see the computer, but not the shared folder. After some googling I found that i have to create my Windows user name ont he Linux machine as a user as well. Unforunately, that user is 'Administrator'. So I told Linux to force user, and it created it, and did smbpasswd command and added the user to the samba list. Still nothing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got 4 identical 1 TB drives and would like to use them in a software RAID configuration on my home server. I'm running Debian Linux using 'mdadm' utility to manage the software RAID. I don't know how much I've read is fact or dated or even false so I decided I would ask here to get help from people who know more about this than I do. This is essentially just a file server machine to store all my data so being that I've got four identical SATA hard drives, I was thinking about doing RAID level 5. I guess I'll start here and ask if that is the recommended level of RAID. I think RAID level 5 will be fine for my general server usage. My second issue is partitioning the four individual drives to get maximum performance / space from them. Basically just asking here how would you or you recommend I partition the drives? I was thinking about doing three seperate partitions per drive:
/dev/sda1 = 4 GB (swap)/dev/sda2 = 1 GB (/boot)/dev/sda3 = 995 GB (/)Now from that partition schema above, obviously all the types will be 'fd' for RAID and the partition for /boot is going to be bootable. My confusion is that I read Grub doesn't support booting from RAID 5 since Grub can't handle disk assembly. If /dev/sdx2 (sda2, sdb2, sdc2, sdd2) are partitioned for /boot (bootable), how would you guys configure this RAID to match up equally? I don't think I do a RAID level 1 on 4 identical partitions, right?

I am sending Binary data from the client to Server 2 via Server 1. So it happens that I have some characters in Hex translated to special characters in ASCII like open brackets or Commas etc.. and that closed the socket between the two machines.
I have a 11.1 NFS server and several 11.1 NFS clients. If for some reason the server shuts down before the clients then the clients become almost frozen, particularly KDE is rendered useless even after cycling back to init 3 then init 5. I would like to make the clients immune to shutdowns on the server.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to access a samba/SSH server which itself is connected to a VPN Server, therefore acting as a VPN Client. As soon as the VPN Connection is established, samba and ssh connections to this VPN Client get a timeout. But not all of them.
To get a better understanding I made an overview. The first one is a general network overview, without any VPN Connection, the second one with the VPN Connection established.
Network Overview without VPN
I can access the server in several ways:
*From the router via ssh (router runs ipcop with busybox)
*From the laptop via ssh (putty via Windows 7)
*From the laptop via samba
*From the internet via ssh (port forwarding to the ssh server)
Everything is working as it should.
Now the server that runs ssh and samba service connects to a VPN Server on the Internet, this is also working fine. Now it gets weird. The only samba/SSH connection that is still working is ssh directly from the router to the server. Everything else gets a timeout:
*From the laptop via ssh (putty via Windows 7)
*From the laptop via samba
*From the internet via ssh (port forwarding to the ssh server)

Why is that? It seems from the little understanding I have of vpn and networking, that incoming packages (like samba request from the laptop) don't get send directly back over eth0 but over the vpn connection. This seems somewhat logic, BUT ssh from the router is still working. Why from the router and not from the laptop? I really can't get my head around it.

tldr; One Client acts as VPN Client and samba/SSH Server. As soon as the VPN Connection is established samba/SSH stop working, but only partially.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set samba domain. I am able to add win 7 and xp clients. All r working fine. But I have a doubt. If I shutdown the samba pdc server, I should be able to login the client machine with the same profile (which I had, when the samba pdc server was up). Now , if I shutdown the sambapdc, I am able to login the client machine, but new profile is being created. How to avoid this.
How to say to samba that the client machine should load the same profile which was created when the server was up and running. I do not want the client machines to create new a profile when the server is down bcoz in windows domain, when the windows domain is shutdown, the client machines are able to login with the same profile (the profile which was created when the domain was up). I wish to have same thing in samba pdc also.
I have configured LDAP Server on RHEL 5.2 successfully and client can login to the server. But I do no how a client can change its LDAP password on his client machine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am writing a TCP server in C, and the server listens to incoming client connections and accepts them. It then creates a thread to handle the client. The clients are expected to only receive data from my server and not send any data. So if I use a select() call with a recv(), I believe that the recv() will just block forever since there will not be any data coming from the client. If I use a non-blocking recv(), then this will just return a 0 which tells me nothing because the client is not expected to send any data. I am not sure if I have misunderstood some socket concepts, but I need a solution to detect when the client has disconnected so that I can close the socket and stop sending data to the client. As I understand it, simple ACKs etc are not captured by the recv(), and only data sent by the client will cause recv() to return a non-zero value, so I am not sure how to know when the client has disconnected.

I have nfs-server installed and running on my Ubuntu 10.04 server. I have some directories exported. I can connect from my Ubuntu 10.04 PC using the commands:
sudo mount taylor10:/data0 /t10/data0
sudo mount taylor10:/data1 /t10/data1
sudo mount taylor10:/data2 /t10/data2
sudo mount taylor10:/data3 /t10/data3
However, when I have my firewall on the PC enabled (Firstarter) I cannot make the mounts. I have ports 111 and 2049 open. If I stop the firewall, do the mounts and then start the firewall I am still mounted to the nfs shares. The connection is on port 2049. I have observed that when the firewall is enabled and I issue the mount command I get traffic on a random port such as 46694, 37022, etc. I have found instructions regarding editing /etc/default/nfs-common but they seem to control the port the server is listening on, not the port which the client is asking on. How do I lock down the port which mount and/or the nfs client is using to talk to the server to make the initial contact.
Installed fedora/configued samba, shared printer and i am not able to access shared printer from any of the fedora machine. I am able to access the printer /shared folder from windows machine. I dont know the process of cups installation.

A few hints follows:
1- I ssh to web01, in DMZ, from a intranet machine on my desktop, export my DISPLAY, and try to bring up xclock; nothing happens.
2- traceroute from web01 to app01 fails.
3- NFS mount from web01, nfs server, to nfs client, app01, fails.
How should my network configuration on web01 or app01 be to make this NFS mount from web01 to app01 work?Each server has 4 NICs, I've only used eth0.
I have a HDD that cannot be bootup (should be the boot file problem, I want to get back the data in it, so I plug it to another server and trying to copy the data from the failure HDD to this server. Now, the server is re-boot and in maintenance mode as the HDD cannot do the system check. when I try to copy data, it pops the server is read-only system.
1. How to let me write data to the server ; or
2. Let me boot up the server, then I will mount the HDD to it and copy the data to the server.
It's been awhile since I posted anything which is a good sign my install has been working well and I have been able to handle most everything. However, I'm not able to handle this issue. I recently installed F11 and everything went well. But, when trying to see my other computers on the local network, I cannot. I receive this error message: Unable to mount location Failed to receive shared list from server. I understand the message as it is obvious, but do not know how to fix it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIn a nutshell, our RAID 1 array was rendered broken and we were advised that core lib files were missing and the OS needed to be reloaded... a quote from our server host:"The OS is not healthy.This server will need a reinstall.
Libs are missing." This was after having replaced what we though was a faulty /dev/sdb. So they reloaded the OS (Debian 5.0.2 x86_64) on 2 FRESH drives, and installed the old /dev/sda as /dev/sdc once the reload was completed. Here's the output of /etc/fstab on the fresh install so we know what we're working with:

The one problem I see myself running into is /dev/md1 and /dev/md2 are currently in use by the new system, so I cannot mount it there. I should also note, reloading the OS is a viable option if needed as we haven't started configuring the server yet. So if we need to reinstall the OS and assign the NEW RAID arrays to something other than /dev/md1 and /dev/md2 then we can do that.
i have a suse 11.3 machine and i cannot set it to be a NFS server that is i cannot mount a directory of this machine on another one running as well a 11.3 while i can mount without problem a directory from 10.0.i do not know where to start as the NFS server option seems to have vanished from YAST.

Now I have the following problem the LVM file system don't mount properly.If I open the mount point I see only a few files of the LVM disk. If I want to unmount the disk I get the following error:

I configured openLdap in RHEL5 on virtual achines,everything is working fine, I created a user called ldapuser,in LDAP server and i created a home directory for ldapuser in my LDAP client, now i can able to login to the both Server and client with ldapuser account....

I'm trying to setup my Linux target to boot via NFS. The kernel boots up but fails to mount the file system. When looking on a capture from ethereal it can be found that the NFS server return error when client try to mount the /nfstest directory from this server. The returned error is 13

I created an ext3 partition to be able to share data or files between CentOS 5.3 and F11 (and possibly other distros...) on /dev/sda5. I created the folder under /mnt and edited fstab and it's mounting ok and it lets me write to the drive.
But it's only seeing the files I wrote to it in F11, not the files or folders I created in CentOS; not even the text files created in gedit. I read some messages on here, and made myself the owner of the folder (data2share) and rebooted and it's still not seeing the files.
Might it be because F11 is using ext4 and CentOS is using ext3 ?? To test that theory, I started my external usb drive that's also formatted ext3 and it's seeing those files just fine. So I'm stumped.

I have access to a unmanaged dedicated server on the net. I am considering loading Ubuntu Server to this for web/mail/ftp serving. If I install Ubuntu Desktop to my local machine is it possible for me to administer the server using Ubuntu Desktop (using the GUI)? I connect to the net over ADSL. Any guides/advice for setting up Ubuntu as a web/mail/ftp with a key focus on keeping to secure? I know how to install LAMP but as I have root I need to learn a little more than I did when I was on a shared host.
