General :: How To Specify Which Port Mount (NFS Client) Tickle Server
Jul 3, 2011
I have nfs-server installed and running on my Ubuntu 10.04 server. I have some directories exported. I can connect from my Ubuntu 10.04 PC using the commands:
sudo mount taylor10:/data0 /t10/data0
sudo mount taylor10:/data1 /t10/data1
sudo mount taylor10:/data2 /t10/data2
sudo mount taylor10:/data3 /t10/data3
However, when I have my firewall on the PC enabled (Firstarter) I cannot make the mounts. I have ports 111 and 2049 open. If I stop the firewall, do the mounts and then start the firewall I am still mounted to the nfs shares. The connection is on port 2049. I have observed that when the firewall is enabled and I issue the mount command I get traffic on a random port such as 46694, 37022, etc. I have found instructions regarding editing /etc/default/nfs-common but they seem to control the port the server is listening on, not the port which the client is asking on. How do I lock down the port which mount and/or the nfs client is using to talk to the server to make the initial contact.

I've setup an NFS share on my Fedora 15 host of which Google'ing told me that it had changed radically from the old NFSv3 config. Ie. no more /etc/hosts.allow or /etc/hosts.deny files.....My current setup is this..../etc/sysconfig/nfs:
Code:
#
# Define which protocol versions mountd
[code]...

Both server (web01), in DMZ, and client (app01), intranet, are Linux OEL5.5.
A few hints follows:
1- I ssh to web01, in DMZ, from a intranet machine on my desktop, export my DISPLAY, and try to bring up xclock; nothing happens.
2- traceroute from web01 to app01 fails.
3- NFS mount from web01, nfs server, to nfs client, app01, fails.
How should my network configuration on web01 or app01 be to make this NFS mount from web01 to app01 work? Each server has 4 NICs, I've only used eth0.

I notice that my bittorrent client is capable of automatically setting up port forwards with my router, and I want to know if I can do the same in a shell script. The reason is, that since my router is stupid and won't let me keep static IP addresses (it seems they forced a DHCP refresh every week to make me want to pay for a more expensive model which doesn't), I need to get my computer to change the port forward to follow my computer's changing internal network IP address. I have a couple of port forward manually entered into my router settings for web interfaces to bittorrent etc, but of course these have a good chance of being invalidated at each DHCP refresh cycle.

VERY new to linux, erm but I have an issue that needs solving!I recently moved to university, where their network blocks sftp port 22, this means that I cannot connect to my FTP server which is running a version of linux. Now I've got this ftp server connected to a seedbox and it was created using the following walk through..Code:I have written this guide for a friend, but I though it would be useful for others as well.
There are several guides floating around, but I found that most always cock up in some way. This one is tried and tested to work on Debian Etch (on an OVH rps, but should apply to most servers). If there is a new stable release of rtorrent/libtorrent then I will update this guide to show you how to update it (without reinstalling the whole server).
At the bottom there are also instructions to install ftp access & some network monitoring software.Basically, I would really like someone to be able to construct the commands on how to change the listen port for sftp connection on linux or add another port to the list that Linux would use so that I could put in through putty.

I am working with simple tcp client to establish connection to sockaddr_in servAddress and send data segment:
...
connect(sockfd,&servAddr,sizeof(servAddr)) < 0)
send(sockfd, pkt, pktLen, 0);
close(sockfd);
...
Elementary... Here's the tricky part: next i have to handle user level ack the server is sending to "client"... To do that i have to open server socket on the same port number the system assigned to my client socket before. How can i get it ( in user level code)?

I set up an ssh server and configured port forwarding on my router so that I can access the ssh server from the internet. This is working fine, also from within the LAN.
Additionally this machine should be connected to an VPN Server on the internet. Again, this is working. I get connected, the tun interface is coming up, etc.
The moment the VPN Connection is established I can not connect to the SSH Server anymore from the internet, LAN ist still working fine. I guess it has something to do with the route that is set by the VPN Connection?!
So my question is, what do I have to do to reach the ssh server from the internet while the ssh server is connected to an VPN Server itself.
ifconfig without VPN

configuring my postfix server to send mail over smtps port 465. My ISP (as is the case with many ISPs), is blocking outbound SMTP, so I need to configure postfix to relay my mail out through my ISPs SMTP servers.
I was able to get it to work with gmail, which uses port 587, by using SASL: [URL] but that configuration is less than ideal as gmail drops the "reply to" address so when people receive my email, it looks like it's from gmail instead of from my server.
If I use my ISP SMTP servers as a relay the "reply to" address is not stripped, but the relay uses ssl over port 465 instead of TLS. According to the SASL readme:
Quote:
Postfix does not deliver mail via TCP port 465 (the obsolete "wrappermode" protocol). See TLS_README for a solution that uses the "stunnel" command.
I've looked at the TLS_README and can't figure out what I need to do. how to configure this?

PLus, i dont want the 2 services sharing the port. What I am trying to do is forward 443 requests to another port where the SSL service is running so I can hide my port number in the URL.
Here is my sites available conf file:

Now you say that if 389 client is configured it will login through credentials which is configured in Server. So what about the local Users on that Client. How will normal users in the Client login?
