View 1 Replies View RelatedI just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.
I have connected my scanner microtek slimscan c3 through usb.
Getting message: not configured: USB Scanner (vendor=0x046d, product=0x0928) at libusb:001:005
How to set it up properly?
Everything went wrong no sound, no scsi to scanner, printers, and kde only using failsafe. So, did a new install and still probskde stops half way through saying it there is no file in /lib/modules/2.6.31-5-0.1-desktop
Fixed prob by creating a copy of 2.6.31-8.0-desktop
kde only starts with x11failsafe
On failsafe boot (from GRUB) load of messages daying can not find disks then mess Doing Fastboot
At least I've got sound though printer still a prob
Any ideas how to fix the kde start up?

Just found out that my old parallel port scanner will work with Linux (SANE told me so...). Since I have a laptop hp compaq nx9010 (Ubuntu 10.10) equipped with a parallel port I thought maybe I could take that into use. Question is: How? And do I have to have a printer connected to the scanner too?

Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...
After downloading and installing iscan and run it i see this message:

After command sane-find-scanner:
And this message is result of scanimage command:

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

I work at a local computer shop as a computer technician and we get many computer in daily that require external virus scans (having to take out the hard drives, sticking it in another machine) just to scan (if we're lucky we can sometimes just do it in safe mode). Now what I want to know is...
1. Is it possible to install Ubuntu to an external HDD and use it virtually anywhere I plug it in? Will it pick up the network card, graphics card, etc so I can just plug and go? (Of course there are drivers for some computers).
2. Is it possible to run a Windows oriented virus scanner on Ubuntu? I know I can use WINE to run Windows applications, but will it prove to be compliant with virus scanners as well?
3. The main reason why I want it to be able to pick up on hardware and just work is because I plan on using it for schooling / travelling as well, have all my documents etc saved on it for easy access.
I've used Ubuntu in the past on an old laptop that didn't have much memory, small HDD, and a crap processor but that was 5-6 years ago (I still have the disk they sent me for free ).
I have a HP DC 6000 small form factor which has not taken the GUI after installing the debian lenny version 5.07 on it. I have tried installing 5.01-5.07. None of the Debian series do have the supported driver for the on board graphics card for HP box it seems. I can take the terminal and can see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file which does not have much alterations form the default one which can make the driver been taken by it. Could some body help with the hp driver for Debian for the respective graphics card or could some body me with the content of xorg.xonf file.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the last week or 2 I've noticed something odd with the audio - but as I don't use the it very much and also accept all the ongoing updates from Fedora. Anyway symptoms are (using ALSA):
1. Volume control button on the laptop - when decreasing to less than ~50% the sound goes to zero.
2. Watching flash movies (in Firefox 3.5.1, Adobe 10 plug-in) (e.g. BBC, .....): they play fine for a few seconds then go choppy (audio and video) then video recovers but sound is lost (and the laptop volume control does not work at all after that).
3. Finding similar problems on replay of audio with kplayer and vlc on music files (ogg) that previously worked fine.
I've seen the pulseaudio and vlc fix thread but I don't use pulseaudio in kplayer, for example.
I have just installed 9.10 64bit Karmic Koala on a Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E.
Everything seems to be working fine out of the box...
I have my camera WORKING. I have tested it through VLC and the video is visible. I have installed Skype, and after setting up the source of the mic and video, SOUND works. Microphone from NX-6000 records sound, I can talk to someone on Skype with no problems.
The only issue i have is that in Skype settings, when I click on the TEST button in the VIDEO menu, the camera blinks, but the screen stays black. When I initiate a conversation, and enable my video, all I see is a white box in the corner, and the same thing shows up on the screen of the person I am speaking with. The sound however works flawlessly.
I need to remap an MS laser mouse 6000 not the wireless one. The issue is this. The right click button is broken and id like to change the forward button to do right click.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have purchased a new printer, a Canon MX320 incorporating a printer, a scanner, a copier and fax. I am using Mandriva 2010 32 bit. The fax and copier are not part of the problem and neither is the printing side, I managed to source a driver for the printer and scanner from the Canon site. They are tar.gz files and the both extracted to their own folder. The printer software installed and the printer works fine, the scanner software installed,(I checked the package stats) but sane tells me no scanner installed. I have an HP scanner also installed and Sane picks it up, no problem. Is this the problem, do I have to uninstall all the HP software? Or is it in the config?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am still a noob with linux and debian in particular. I do some android development so through that I have learned a little bit about linux but only the basic command prompt commands and the basics of how linux works and such.Anyways, I was looking around on the forum and on other forums and I couldn't find any helpful information about how to set up wireless connections (such as wifi) on debian. When I installed debian on my computer it asked me for the ipw2200 files and I didn't have them at the time but now I have the latest framework files for that, I don't really know how to install them and after I install them I don't know how to turn on my wireless connections from there.
I am really sorry if someone already made a post on this subject and I am just too clutzy to find it, if that's the case please just post the link to that thread for me cause I'm dumb as crap.So basically the main problem I am trying to fix right now is that I cannot get my internet to work on my old dell inspiron 6000 laptop which I am trying to get to run debian.
