General :: Installing GCC On SUSE 10 Says Cc Not Found
Feb 10, 2011I wanted to package my software as an RPM by rpmbuild command. When I run that it complained that gcc not found.
I downloaded gcc and tried to install that from a tar ball. And it complained about cc: coomand not found. I dont know why is this error being shown because I think cc and gcc are the same. Correct me if I am wrong. My system details are:
I tried to download rpm files for gcc but they dont exist for Suse 10.

General :: No Network Access After Installing Suse 11.2?
Sep 8, 2010I'm new to SUSE. I had some virus issues with Windows Vista and decided to change my OS.
I have the modem set up and still can't get the internet to come up. I get the mozilla blank webpage, but I am connected to the internet server. What can I do to get full internet access if everything seems to be working they way it should except for the blank webpage? I know I must be missing something but what?
Also, how do I open Yast to use it? I think I opened it by accident and got some things done

Dec 28, 2010What is the best way to install software in a linux machine if you dont have root permissions. I know that we can use few variables like PKG_CONFIG_PATH and switches like --prefix with configure to get a software installed in a local directory, but sometimes when there are recursive dependencies it is becoming tough for me to install all the packages manually. Is there a better automated way? What I meant by recursive dependencies is: to install package A, I should install package B, which in turn requires package C to be installed.

Jan 14, 2010I bought this laptop several years ago. It had Vista. Just long enough for me to download SUSe, nuke and pave the HD and install Linux. Recently I upgraded from 1 GB to 4 GB of RAM, the maximum that is allowed given the motherboard (based on from what I am able to learn the Intel 945 chipset).
After upgrading to 4 GB, the machine (according to "My Computer") only sees 2.9 GB. I understand that under an earlier version of the BIOS that the machine would not recognize the RAM correctly. Additionally the "My Computer" page lists the display as "Intel 945GM". My problem is that I can find no Linux utility to flash the BIOS on this machine-- Toshiba only provides the BIOS included in an .exe file for either XP or Vista. I am hesitant to use the BIOS for the Intel 945 series motherboards from their site.

I am running Suse Linux Enterprise 10 on a laptop and by some strange reason the computer froze from overheating and I was forced to shutdown improperly. Once I restarted it booted right to the command prompt when it usually instead boots to the default user. I managed to get gnome running using the "startx gnome" command. But when gnome loads, none of my normal extentions load like my wireless driver, the sound driver, etc. how to restore gnome to automatically load the default user on start up or fix any other damage I might have done? lol

It is connecting to a clearcase server, so i want to mount the remote filesystem as part of startup, as this is generally rebooted when im not around.I would normally add something to /etc/init.d and put the shortcut to it in the appropriate runlevel (in this case 3). Tried that. Didnt work.
Realised the init script needed to have the LBS stuff at the start, so put that in, and used insserv to add the script. I used required-start set to $ALl.This successfully created the init script with S20, and i eneabled it with chkconfig.

Jul 19, 2010New Suse 11.3 installation with Gnome desktop. Added K3B using Yast2, and after completing the install of K3B, there is no icon for K3B! Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.
