I want to attach disk with Suse 11.2 to another motherboard with Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4290 GPU ( at the moment I am using Nvidia GeForce 6800). How can I change settings for new video chip?
View 4 RepliesI have installed Open Suse 11.1 on two different machines. One contains an ATI X850 video card, and the other contains an ATI X1950 video card. I updated the ATI drivers on the 850 card and it works like a dream. I updated the ATI drivers on the 1950 card and Suse becomes unusable. System works fine before the update. Before the update I ran it at a resolution of 1280 x 1024. I thought I would lower it to 1024 x 768 to see if that would help, but it does not. I dual boot with WinXP, and card works fine with that setup at 1280 x 1024, so I would suspect this is a specific problem with my Suse setup as opposed to a Motherboard issue.

After the install, I found that the monitor always reverts to 87hz refresh rate and must be manually adjusted to 60hz. Also, there is no adjustment for the monitor resolution beyond 1024 x 768. I can not find the video card info in yast like it was before. Do I need to add the ati sources in yast? Will that give me a way to adjust the video card properties? Video card is the ati rage. Box is a dell optiplex pentium 3.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe suse 10.0 64 bit partition on my box stops booting when it is setting up the cmos clock. The suse 10.0 32 bit partition boots up without a problem. I never had a problem with the suse 10.0 64 bit partition up until now. Is it possible to fix the problem using puppy linux and editing a configuration file? I do not think it is a hardware issue if the other partition on the drive boots up. Would puppy linux be a good way to backup files from this partition or can I mount the partition using the 32 bit os?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed OpenSUSE 11.2-KDE about 2 weeks ago, and have been pretty satisfied with it so far.Apart from one niggling little problem.When I went to the 'Password and User Account' page (Configure Desktop>About Me) and tried to change from the default image to something more personal, I got a message box saying "Your administrator has disallowed changing your image." However, on the same page I was allowed to enter personal details and could, if I wished, have changed my password.I logged in as root to see if I could change it from there, but I got the same message. As this is a single-user machine, where I am effectively root/administrator, it would appear I am banning myself from changing my image. So far, I've been allowed to change anything else.

I am running openSuse 11.1 64 bit on my hp pavilion dv6458se; and am unable to get my Broadcom wireless card to work.
i tried reading a few forums, but they all start when 'lspci' recognizes the card.
My problem is that 'lspci' does not show any 'Broadcom' card.

All the three files I downloaded can not been played by Banshee. I got the message like below when I use search the code, so I installed all the Gstreamer I can find.

During that I also did some update, but the problem still the same.
I have a fresh install of suse 11.0 and there is no 3d acceleration available. If I use the suse repository, which driver do I need to enable 3d accesleration? The video is integrated on the motherboard. The box is an hp pavilion a1130n and amd 3500+ processor. I installed the same suse 11.0 on a dell box with an ati 128 rage and 3d was enabled after the install.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed 11.3 onto a computer I just dropped a new mobo/cpu/memory into. At first everything worked great! (minus a few video streaming issues...but that is for a later date) Then, a few days ago, I let it do an update. Boy to I feel stupid now. I guess if it ain't broke..... So, now I don't have sound in the browsers or for the video players...such as xine. I do however still have sound with Amarok and system sounds when it boots up.
I have deleted the sound device in Yast and let it re-install several times. I tried different setting there as well. Checked and rechecked then checked again the mixer settings. Made sure my group settings included audio...just in case. Now Amarok and the online video play at warp speed, and only Amarok gives me sound....garbled...but sound. The system keeps telling me when I reboot that "one or more sound devices were removed" and wants to know if I want it to ignore them from now on. I've answered yes and no several times.I've also tried updated the alsa drivers in the software management of Yast. Can someone please help me before my wife gets mad at me for converting this computer to Linux?

The "Warp Speed" for the video and audio was resolved after removing and then re-installing the audio driver and a quick reboot. But for some reason I had to reboot yet again to get the internet connection working again. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Also, when I try to adjust the Pulseaudio config under "other"in the audio config of Yast,it says it is not installed. When I try to install, it has a conflict with another program.
We have a SuSE/SLES 9 server that boots from a fibre channel card, using volumes from a NetApp filer.
We previously had the server booting from the LUNs on the filer, but after some tinkering around with the fibre channel BIOS, we have the situation where the LUNS seem to be mounted, the OS boots, starts to initialise everything but then stalls, saying:
We have tried loads of combinations of settings in the BIOS and fibre channel BIOS without any success or any idea what may have caused the error.
I am relatively new to Linux and Opensuse. I created the / root partition and now it is growing and maxing out. I have partitioner available to me but how do I change the partition size when the root partition is mounted. Do I login as root and then umount or modify fstab and restart and change from command line or do I format and reinstall everything? I have room to expand but not sure how to manage this?
View 4 Replies View Relatedafter I installed the ATI Radeon 3400 series video card in my machine, the Xserver cant start! after it loads, it takes me to the init 3. When I tried startx, the screens either go blank or doesnt let me. I tried to install everything following this website:

I wanted dual monitors but now I cant even get one. The xwindows doesnt appear. Things I tried:
1. Deleted the xorg.conf and reconfigured (didnt work).
2. sax2 -r -m 0=versa (didnt work)
3. reconfigured the ATI radeon driver from init 3 (didnt work)
4. copy and paste the oold version of xorg.conf (didnt work)
5. tried to run set apt or dpkg-reconfigure command (commands not found)
6. tried xconfig and prompt the best I coudl (didnt work).
7. aticonfig commands (As shown in website) (also didnt work)
I have the live CD to run it from there but I dont know what to do once I get to the terminal. Is there any way I can revert to previous configuration since the ATI driver gives me some problems? Like a restore function in windows? how or what files I should change for the X-server to run properly (is there any other file than xorg.conf?....)

I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.

I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly.The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
I tried to use different version of Python, and followed the Readme like this

View 2 Replies View RelatedNew Suse 11.3 installation with Gnome desktop. Added K3B using Yast2, and after completing the install of K3B, there is no icon for K3B! Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus/Intel setup with integrated graphics that has been running Unity no problem for a while. I temporarily installed a separate NVidia card to do some hardware compatibility testing for another system that apparently couldn't hack it for Unity and forced it back to Classic. With the Nvidia card removed and going back to the integrated video setup I can't seem to get Unity running again. At the login I've toggled back and forth between Ubuntu (Unity) and Classic to no avail. Is there some way to reactivate it?
