SUSE / Novell :: Saving The Screen Resolution?

Aug 4, 2010

I am running OpenSuse 11.3 in a MAC Parallels VM environment. It installed more smoothly than on actual hardware, but the screen resolution is 1024x672 so the screen is off. I have to blindly click in the corner to get the menus, so i changed it to 1024x640 now it looks great, but it doesn't stay. Every time i restart the VM, i have to set the resolution again. Is that a big or is there something I am missing?

I have been searching for 2 days and cannot find an answer. Apparently Sax2 isn't available in 11.3. It looks as if many are having the same difficulty. I've tried xrandr and tried to edit /etc/X11/Xorg.conf with no success.Copying a working xorg conf file might be a fix, I don't know.

SUSE / Novell :: Not Allowed To Change Image

Feb 21, 2010

I installed OpenSUSE 11.2-KDE about 2 weeks ago, and have been pretty satisfied with it so far.Apart from one niggling little problem. When I went to the 'Password and User Account' page (Configure Desktop>About Me) and tried to change from the default image to something more personal, I got a message box saying "Your administrator has disallowed changing your image." However, on the same page I was allowed to enter personal details and could, if I wished, have changed my password.I logged in as root to see if I could change it from there, but I got the same message. As this is a single-user machine, where I am effectively root/administrator, it would appear I am banning myself from changing my image. So far, I've been allowed to change anything else.

I noticed in startup just before it says starting HAL it says CPU frequency not supported. I am assuming that this is the issue. I have run 11 and 11.1 on this box and have not had a problem with this. I have a P4 3.00 GHz with 2 GB of RAM.

SUSE / Novell :: Installing Opens 10.3 - Screen Will Go Blank And Become Unresponsive ?

Mar 28, 2009

I have recently got a new computer, and I have been trying to install openSUSE 10.3 on it. But, the screen will go blank and become unresponsive if I boot with the default options. When I switch to text mode, it boot and stops when it outputs time: pit clocksource has been installed. Switching to safe settings will make no difference. Right now, I am using openSUSE 11.1, but I'm not very happy with it, so I intend to replace it with 10.3. I'm not sure what the pit clocksource is, and can it be disabled, or some workaround?

my specs are:

SUSE / Novell :: Installing OpenSUSE 11.1 On Playstation 3 - On Startup A Blue/grey Screen Appears

Jan 17, 2009

I just tried installing OpenSUSE 11.1 onto my Playstation 3. I installed the otheros.bld fine (which I downloaded via a link provided on the OpenSUSE website). I then inserted my 32-bit Gnome CD for installation and restarted my system. Then on startup, a blue/grey screen appears. Here are the links to the screenshot (sorry for poor quality):

[Full Screen]
[url]

[Top Half]
[url]

[Bottom Half]
[url]

As you can see, the only option is for me to select the gameboot, which obviously takes me back to the Playstation XMB. There are keys at the bottom of the screen, but this is only to change the resolution. So I have no option to install the OS.

Does anybody know why this screen appears and have any ideas on how I can get around this problem to install SUSE onto my Playstation?

Hardware :: Change Display Resolution So It Stays Changed In Suse 11.3?

Nov 2, 2010

(Video card is a nothing special Nvidia)

I want to change the default resolution of 1280x1024 to 1024x768. Setting at boot using the space bar or the KDE display (personal settings) does not survive the next boot. In yast or yast2, hardware, there is no monitor selection (something wrong here?).

Using root, run level 3, the command sax2 --vesa 1024x768 does nothing.
or sax2 -m 0=fbdev does nothing.

I had no problem with previous suse releases. What am I missing?

OpenSUSE :: Setting Screen Resolution In Suse 11.3?

Nov 10, 2010

I just installed Suse 11.3 64bit on a new build. My video card is a nvidia gt240. I am using the default drivers. My monitor is a NEC 17" LCD.

When I boot up the screen resolution defaults to 1280x1024. I can go to applications>configure desktop>display and set it to 1024x768, which is my resolution of choice, and it works until I reboot or log out and log back in, then it resets to 1280x1024.

I would like to make 1024x768 the default so I don't have to keep changing it. Is there a way to do this? The output of xrandr looks like this:

$~> xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
DVI-I-1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm
1280x1024 60.0 +
1152x864 75.0
1024x768 75.1 70.1* 60.0

[Code]...

Is there something I can change to set a new default resolution?

Ubuntu :: Can't Change Screen Resolution / Do That?

Aug 10, 2010

I'm very new to Ubuntu and have 9.04 running on a Sony Vaio, don't know what graphics card I have. My screen resolution doesn't have an option higher than 800x600, so everything looks super zoomed in. Other threads tell me to edit xorg.conf, which I did (probably incorrectly). The result was the computer had mega problems when I restarted it, and when it finally got back to the desktop it didn't give me any other options for screen resolution. Also it says I'm in low graphics mode.

Ubuntu :: Can't Change Screen Resolution Itself

Feb 14, 2011

I recently upgraded my desktop pc from 10.04 to 10.10 and ran into a tad of trouble. After I attempted to login from the GDM, something caused the system to crash and return to the GDM. So, I got my laptop out, did some googling, and decided to delete ~/.config/monitors.xml to try and reset the resolution. That got me to the Desktop, at which point I was greeted by more display issues.

The point at which the computer normally goes idle seems to crash and return it to the GDM as well. Needless to say, I disabled the idling/password prompt setting to prevent crashes every five minutes. Anyway, the prevailing problem is that I can't change the resolution itself -- as that seems to cause the same issue.

I've tried changing the xorg.conf file to no avail. I've been browsing for 3 days now looking for a solution.
