reducing the size of LVM. I did it by using the commands, lvreduce,fsck,resize2fs.After reducing the lvm size, my system is not booting...it is saying file system corrupted error.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a dual boot system set up right now through wubi. the installation went fine. but then i tried to upgrade ubuntu from 10.04.2 to 10.10. the update went fine, no errors. but afterwards when i restarted my computer and selected ubuntu, it said "error: file not found" it didn't even get to grub. this has happened numerous of times trying to upgrade in the past.
p.s: i have vista installed as the other side of the dual boot.
i decided to install ubuntu in my PC,i downloaded the .ISO image and i installed it in my USB. After trying it and all that i observed that i really liked it and i decided to formally install it to my computer in the hard drive. When i reached the partition thing,i selected to dual boot with Vista and select between each them in every startup, when i clicked FORWARD it gave me an error which i did not read(because, again im a noob) so i clicked cancel.
Today i wanted to go through the process again and now really install it,so again i went to the time zone part and i clicked forward but then, instead of taking me straight to the partition phase,it appeard a window saying "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions: /dev/sda ...." I clicked yes,to unmount this partitions so it took me to the partition thing, once there i selected the option to install Ubuntu with Vista and select between them i neach startup, then i clicked forward and went to the username/computer name process, once i finished i continued to the next part, the installation, but i selected to import all of my WIndows VIsta default user data, after that i clicked forward and went to the installation process,i went down stairs to eat soemthing while it finishes,i came back and it was finished,it asked me to reboot so i clicked in Restart Now.
When it tried to boot, appeared an error saying: Error: no such devide found: #################### Grub load(or something like that) grub rescue: and it was a command line, since there i havent been able to boot into vista or Ubuntu,im really scared because is the first thing related to OS installing ive done,so i booted my USB and ran the trial and right now im trying to find out what to do from that trial version.
I just went to the INSTALL UBUNTU 10.04 LTS application under the System>Administration Menu and found out that in the partition phase the Install and allow to select between both systems in eahc startup option,i dont know what to do,i foudn out that my HD has still all its data(MUsic/Videos/Folders/Programs/ect.)its just that i cannot boot from it. Also in GParted it appears as /dev/sda1/ and a warning icon besides it,also when i go into information, thers this warning there [URL]
I am having issues booting my LFS system on my hp nc8230 notebook running LFS SVN. Grub was built and installed per the book. My file system is almost as simple as it gets:
/dev/sda1 is swap
/dev/sda2 is my LFS partition /
The LFS live cd still uses the now deprecated drivers for HDD's thus as far as the livecd is concerned my block devices is (hd0) and /dev/hda2 for the root respectively. However the kernel to be booted runs on the newer drivers thus on boot my block device should be referenced as /dev/sda2 for the root. Grub is in fact installed on the MBR what happens is right when my system boots I get a file not found error the grub CFG is pointing to the correct block device and root partition from what can be seen by looking at the grub.
I've got a fresh install of RHEL5 with updates installed running on a PC104. If the machine starts up the screensaver, I can't ever get out of it. The mouse pointer comes back up on the screen, but the desktop doesn't appear or a box to enter a password. I try to reboot X and get an error that X can't be started and it drops me to a prompt. I reboot from the command line and then I get the filesystem error and have to wait 2 hours while it scans.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a windows 7 professional on my computer. I tried dual booting it with ubuntu. While installing ubuntu when it asks which partition you want to install it "as it said your all data in the partition would be erased but not before you confirm" so I selected go back and aborted installation because I didn't wanted that and bang I start my system again an I get this error "no boot device found". I ran my hard disk test it say's passed so I don't think my hard disk is corrupted. I tried using windows 7 recovery disc but I guess it doesn't even detects a operating system on my laptop. I got no back up of my data. Any way to get back my data if I cant get windows back!

Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.
when i wget aro2220.com it displays

However, when I look into the file it is actually blank saying something like "It works! This is the default web page for this server" which can't be correct since that is not what Aro2220.com actually displays.
Furthermore, when I try to wget files I've put on the server for myself it returns a 404, file not found.
I am novice in linux and I have installed linux ES in my previous window desktop it was working fine. I try to make a bootidisk and system is not booting anymore. Following error I am getting at the booting time.

I did a yum install libxml2 then later had to do a yum remove libxml2
on my rhel5.5 machine. During the course I answered 'y' to one of the questions asked, which may have lead to the problem I'm about to describe - I don't know because I can't reproduce the problem at the moment.
After doing the 'yum remove libxml2', which seemed to complete successfully, I tried to do a 'yum search <some other package>' and a 'yum install <some other package>' - both commands failed. The error message I get is
[root@server etc]# yum search libxml2
bash: yum: command not found
[root@server etc]# which yum
/usr/bin/which: no yum in (/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/bin:/bin)
I'm afraid during the 'yum remove libxml2' I must have removed some essential system libraries and applications, including yum.
I got iptraf and netconfig command not found in my system(RHEL 5 ).

View 3 Replies View RelatedIv been using ubuntu on my laptop for just over a year now and thought it about time my desktop got the same. I cant get rid of the vista section of the disk because of things i have on there so a friend gave me a spare 80gb hard drive to have a play with it and go from there. So first of all installed unbuntu 10.10 on the hard drive alls fine i can boot into both vista and ubuntu, i then want to install backtrack 4, so i booted the backtrack disc and off we went, i split the 80gb hard drive in two and installed backtrack to one section, now i cant boot to anything other than backtrack. I got an option for ubuntu although this does look different now (showing up as 'ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-22-generic-pae') when i go to this option i get the message "error 15:file not found" I also have the option for other operating system, i get this message when i choose this option "error 11: Unrecognized device string"

I have a long running 9.10 installation. All of a sudden, on boot, I get this error: "loading initial ramdisk error: file not found" If I hit 'E' at the menu entry, I can scroll all the way to the end of the boot command, and it appears that the last 'c' on 'generic' is missing from the kernel name. If I add the c and hit ctrl-x it boots fine. The grub.cfg appears to be correct, it has the full generic spelled out.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am getting a message at my first re-boot after install of "Error 15: File Not Found", and that's as far as it goes. I just installed Fedora 11 on a Drive that I had recently ran Ubuntu 9.04. I did re-partition and format the drive. I am also running Win XP Pro on another drive, and can boot from either. The computer is older, but all the hardware seemed to work fine with Ubuntu and altough I had to format the install drive a couple times the installation seemed to go ok.

I was surprised that, although preupgrade had finished, the terminal window was yet active and I closed it. On reboot, in the Grub window, one of the options is "Actualizar a (upgrade to) Fedora 14". If I select it I get: "Booting 'Actualizar a Fedora 14 (Laughlin)'

Its not misstyping its not doing any gpg stuff and it does not ask for passphrase.I then rpmbuild -ba --sign X.specIt makes all the files and dies right where it signs the filesWhy i know its the .rpmmacros it never asks for a passphrase! If I build without --sign it builds 100% and exits normally.
