I have installed RHEL 5 in my pc with following configuration:
RAM-2GB
Processor : Intel,Dual Core
Motherboard : Asus-MX
The problem is when I configure the network setting i.e.,Ip address, Subnet mask and default gateway, the pc becomes very slow. For opening the terminal it takes 20-25 seconds.

I have a new installation of Scientific Linux, which is basically RHEL/CentOS 5.4.
Everything works fine with it, its nice to see KDE3.5 again BUT
certain commands in cli (console, konsole, xterm whatever) take an age to run. The worst offender is vim, which takes about 20 seconds to open fstab for example. Even mkdir takes about 10 seconds to run.
I am used to these type of operations being almost instantaneous, so there is obviously something wrong here, but I can't imagine what.

but after this setup when i restart my network #service network restart while bringing up the eth0 the following message is displayed before [OK] - RTNETLINK answers : Invalid Argument now it seems either this setup is wrong or not sufficient to set up the connection, whenever i try to ping 172.16.0.1 it showing connect : Network is Unreachable
I am losing network bandwidth and I am quite frankly I am not sure why, I don't have allot memory 495.6Mib
But I clean my PC every few days "BleachBit"
I have read some where on the magazine Network receiving suppose to be higher. so how can I fix this issue please i am having allot problems, u use cable from Comcast

I'm having major network issues. I cannot get a real IP address with this RHEL installation I have. Im using a Braodcom NetLink ethernet card and the tg3 driver that came with my install cd. When I go to services it says my NetworkManager is enables but dead.

Based on what I understand, eth0 goes to monitoring and the other 2 ethernet cards go to FE. I am not an expert in system administration but would like to know if there is any issues with the above settings/configuration (in fact, im also looking for what do they infer and what is the settings?
The problem is i have to copy folders from network into the RHEL server. When i am copying i can copy the folders and documents which do not have a sub folder. But the folders with subfolders is not getting copied. How should i do it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedTwo years ago, I have set up two node Active-passive cluster on VSphere 4.0 and it is in production ever since.
I've tried to setup another cluster for testing purposes on the same VSphere, and failed. And what is interesting is that those new two nodes came up with cluster.conf of the production cluster, even though I did not try to bring them in the existing production cluster. I googled a bit and found something stating that two different clusters might behave strane if on the same network segment. Question is, did anyone try to create two different clusters on the same hardware, or on the same network VLAN?
I will do some more digging after weekend, and get back to you.
I have an Acer Laptop and I am trying to use Linux Redhat 5 on it but for some reason the NIC is not detected by Linux. It is a bit surprising to me that the same problem was seen in my desktop computer but after changing the NIC to a different slot the Linux OS detected the NIC and it is working fine but my laptop still has the same problem.
From troubleshooting point of view:
1. Installed Linux multiple times but it didn't work.
2. Tried to add the hardware (NIC) but it didn't work.
Note: The NIC was working fine when I first installed Linux but after sometime it didn't. The laptop is dual boot (Windows & Linux) when I boot via windows the NIC works fine but not with Linux.

1. How can we practice network installation on the Vista? I have installed CentOS installed using VMware desktop on Vista windows?
2. In exam do we get network server installed or we have to install it?
I want to create a small network of 3-5 computers. I want to have one computer as my server and have services like NFS, DHCP, NTP, etc. I want to connect it to 2-4 other clients that have the bare minimal installation of linux on them. I would like 1 client computer to have a static ip address and I would like another to receive a dynamic ip address from the server. How would I go about doing all of this without the assistance of GUI's? I want to be able to do all this with the ks.cfg and network config files.

I am booting from a PXE server which runs the anaconda installer l have tried editing the kickstart files and also the pxe cfg file with various options, but have had no luck so far.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a RHEL 5 Server dedicated to web hosting. HTTPD 2.2.x.x is running on it with PHP and MySQL. The machine is not a server system (hardware wise, a C2D 2.66 with 2GB RAM and 2 x NICs). I have a CIR Fiber link with a pool of live IPs. The machines including this web server is plugged into a switch which has all the live interfaces and is separate from the LAN switches. The problem i am facing is that, when ever this web server is plugged in, the traffic on live switch is choked. Internet slows down to a halt (as live interface of proxy is plugged in this switch. DNS stops resolving name due to time outs. Mail delivery is slowed and the mail ques pile ups. The moment i get this machine of the switch, all the traffic becomes normal. Therefore i have deduced that this is the faulty server. I do not know if this server is hacked and working as a bot or it is a mere hardware problem(faulty LAN Card).

After installing it, it works, but only at reduced speed, (I think), because when keeping the mouse over the list item (of that connection) in Network Manager, a window pops up saying I only have 54Mbit/s.
It says:

Ok, the only thing I remember doing is changing out my hard drive because it went bad. I swapped in a new one and reformatted with Windows 7. (I can hear the boos and hisses as I type) Anyway, now file transfers are exceedingly slow. They are ~10KB/s when they should be ~40MB/s. The odd thing is that it mostly occurs on large files, but not all large files and sometimes smaller files are affected. Copying files from one hard disc to another on the server, as well as copying from the server to Win7. Local files are not affected. The problem does not occur on my laptop which has Slackware Linux on it.
Another thing about the problem is that when I mount a disc image on a virtual drive, access time is very slow and windows explorer is very unresponsive and often locks up completely.
I have a samba server with Slackware Linux on it and a Windows 7 client. DHCP is configured through dnsmasq. (dhpc-host=<mac address>,<computer name>) Every now and again, dnsmasq seems to conk out when I try to access the network with my Win7 machine. I then have to reboot the server, as my only access to it is via SSH and I don't have a video card in it. After the server reboots everything is fine until accessing the network with my Win7 machine conks it out again.
I've tried different MTU settings, different network cards on the Win7 machine(Dlink and realtek), various regedit hacks, but none of them produce any results.
