Server :: Configuring Sendmail For A Private Network?

Jul 6, 2009

My goal is to have users(Unix Users like root on host1) use evolution /sendmail to send and receive emails between users( Unix users either from host1 or any other host on n a private network. The network is a private network with a few servers without any connection to Internet and no DNS. They resolve one another by /etc/hosts. with smtp configured am able to send and receive emails on one machine(host1) from unix user abc on host1 to user xyz on host1 and vice versa. the commad i used to test is host1@abc #echo "this is a test mail" |mailx zyx@host1 But when i tried sending from user abc on host1 to user xyz on host2 its giving error for DNS unable to resolve hostname.

the commad i used to test is host1@abc# echo "this is a test mail" |mailx zyx@host2 create a simple sendmail config so that i can send mails between multiple hosts using unix usernames within one network. I can use one of the server as mail server and rest as clients. I dont want to configure any other softwares for pop or imap access. I want to keep it simple and use evolution on the clients to send emails between one another on the private network without internet.

OpenSUSE Network :: Configuring Mail / Web Server With A Static Ip?

Aug 29, 2010

I think that i lost my memory, because i completely forgot how to accomplish this.

I have a WEB/MAIL server configured to work on a static IP address, lets say 200.11.22.33.

Now I wanna point a domain to that server to get the services up and running, lets say mydom.com ...

The static IP Address is assigned by my Internet Provider.

I'm lost in the part of connecting the domain with the server.

I have the domain DNS pointing to the ISP name servers, but I don't remember if this is the correct way, or if I have to setup my own DNS server.

Networking :: Configuring Wired Network Ubuntu 10.04?

Feb 16, 2011

"Need help with entries for connecting to broadband. Was OK with ubuntu 8.04 which had boxes for DNS server, etc. The 10.04 asks for MAC address (?) and there is a space for "DHCP client ID". I don't understand these terms. I will appreciate some step-by-step instruction or example of how I may proceed, especially exact syntax for any command line work. I am in Chennai/Madras, and have a BSNL wired broadband connection to my Dell laptop." I have repeated what I tried in the ubuntu forum without success. I'm really in newbie category, and not comfortable with computer or internet jargon. I can still connect with ubuntu 8.04 and firefox, just once daily. In a later post I also added: In Ubuntu 8.04 there was a system> admin> network tab (missing in 10.04). In the connections tab "wired" was checked. The general tab had my computer name (tsq-laptop) for host, and a blank box for domain name. The DNS tab had 192.168.1.1 in the servers box (presumably my service provider BSNL), and nothing in search domains. The hosts tab had a list of IP addresses and aliases, the first few being:

127.0.0.1 - local host
127.0.1.1 - tsq-laptop
::1 - ip6 local host ip6 loopback
fe00:: - ip6 localnet, .... (and a few more such I think most (or all) of these entries were generated automatically by the system, since I don't understand the jargon at all! I don't recall having any difficulties then, some two years back. Before that I had major problems in using the internal modem for a dial-up connection, but got detailed help by e-mail/internet from some really knowledgeable people in Europe and elsewhere regarding linmodem configuration, which I followed blindly and it worked!
In 10.04 there is only the taskbar icon to edit settings, and it has a different structure. It asks for MAC address (example 00.11.22.33.44.55). Other info required is IPv4 settings, DHCP client ID, about routers and other stuff. There may be other system settings to be made, which I can try with proper guidance. The ubuntu help page gives very sketchy information, and the images are not clear at all. No response to that till second day. Subsequently: In the 'wired' tab the 'routes' button popped a table where I entered address as 127.0.0.1, and netmask as 255.0.0.0, leaving gateway and metric blank. This is all geek stuff for me - I'm an old-fashioned engineer from the slide-rule era!

Should all this have been in the newbie forum? Thanks, =TeeSquare=

Fedora Networking :: Manually Configuring The Network Settings?

Mar 12, 2009

Does anyone havea good tutorial on Fedora's network scripts, how to edit them, in what order they are called, etc. What I want to do seems simple, but something in the bootup keeps changing it. Right now, I have an image of Fedora Core 7 created in a server with 2 Ethernet cards. I need to specify static IP addresses for each card. Thats simple, and I did that. Now, heres the tricky part, I need to be able to clone this image and place it onto other exact duplicates of the hardware, and have all of the settings stay the same.

What happens here, is that eth0 and eth1 are stored somewhere as devices, and upon boot on a different machine, the Fedora will mount new network cards(different MAC addresses) as eth1 and eth2. It then mvoes my ifcfg-eth0/1 to a backup, and creates two brand new network setting's files, which initialize to DHCP. This creates an issue, becuase these machines do not have monitors nor keyboards attached, nor is their a DHCP server, so its a pain when I swap the machine out, to have to go in with a keyboard/mouse/monitor and reconfigure the network settings before I can connect to it over the LAN.

So does anyone have any advice on how to do this? No matter what i tried, booting the image in a new PC caused Fedora to create two new devices and create brand new network settigns for them, both initialized to DHCP. Hell, I wouldn't care if it created brand new devices, if it would initialize them to static IP addresses that I am expecting.

Server :: Two RHEL 5.4 Clusters On Same Network Segment?

Jul 23, 2011

Two years ago, I have set up two node Active-passive cluster on VSphere 4.0 and it is in production ever since.

I've tried to setup another cluster for testing purposes on the same VSphere, and failed. And what is interesting is that those new two nodes came up with cluster.conf of the production cluster, even though I did not try to bring them in the existing production cluster. I googled a bit and found something stating that two different clusters might behave strane if on the same network segment. Question is, did anyone try to create two different clusters on the same hardware, or on the same network VLAN?

I will do some more digging after weekend, and get back to you.

General :: Internet Not Working In RHEL 5 Even After Configuring?

Apr 5, 2011

I installed RHEL 5 today and set my network. Did it as follows:Eth0 connectionPrimary DNS 192.168.1.1When I click on Activate, it says:8139too device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. This message shows no matter how many times I log out or restart.I don't know what the heck is the problem. I've done the essentials but still it's not working. I looked up on the net but people were saying things like ifconfig and lspci, and at the end still weren't able to solve it. I don't know all this since I'm new to Linux. Another important thing...after facing this same problem some time ago, I installed Centos which asked for internet settings right at the time of installation. And after logging in for the first time, I was able to use internet without any problem. How come internet works on Centos (which is a copy of RHEL) without any problems, but not working on RHEL itself?

But when I try to discover the same from my ubuntu machine, its not getting discovered. Tried pinging the ip [172.20.254.158] which gives the following:

2. If yes, how could I? Does it involve adding routes?

Networking :: Configuring Multiple Separate LANs In Same Physical Network

Jun 27, 2010

For some simulation, I am trying to configure a setup of 3 ubuntu desktops (one of them with multiple network cards) to behave in the following way:

Each one of them should be a separate network not seeing the others (including multicast addresses) They need to have internet access through the machine with multiple network cards. So from the point of view of each machine they define a LAN in which it is the only device and have internet access through the gateway machine.

What do I need to do to configure these machines for the above setup?

Security :: RHEL Server Is Broadcasting On LAN And Choking The Network?

Jan 3, 2011

I have a RHEL 5 Server dedicated to web hosting. HTTPD 2.2.x.x is running on it with PHP and MySQL. The machine is not a server system (hardware wise, a C2D 2.66 with 2GB RAM and 2 x NICs). I have a CIR Fiber link with a pool of live IPs. The machines including this web server is plugged into a switch which has all the live interfaces and is separate from the LAN switches. The problem i am facing is that, when ever this web server is plugged in, the traffic on live switch is choked. Internet slows down to a halt (as live interface of proxy is plugged in this switch. DNS stops resolving name due to time outs. Mail delivery is slowed and the mail ques pile ups. The moment i get this machine of the switch, all the traffic becomes normal. Therefore i have deduced that this is the faulty server. I do not know if this server is hacked and working as a bot or it is a mere hardware problem(faulty LAN Card).

Networking :: Client Tools For Testing And Configuring Boot Server

May 12, 2009

I am trying to set up to serve Linux kernels and filesystems disklessly, and find the startup and test procedure a bit tedious. Can anyone point to a tool or tools to allow me to see what is going on with my DHCP/TFTP/PXE setup, which I'm trying to get working? Ideally, I'd like a tool that can do something like grab an IP from a DHCP/BOOTP server, tell me all about all that it found, and then if it was told to download a file, it could do that and tell me about how that went, and so on. Between the information reported by the tool and the droppings left in logfiles on the server side, I would hope to simplify the configuration process, as well as let me experiment with various options, etc. Even a PXE client tool that I can use to exercise my tftp PXE server configuration from a shell commandline would be extremely useful. If no such tool already exists, would anyone else find something like this useful?

Networking :: Configuring 2 Nics To Talk To Two Different Subnets On A Sles10sp3 Server?

Nov 27, 2009

I am trying to setup a HP blade (BL460) server with 2 nics on sles10sp3. I want one nic to connect to a management vlan and and second to connect to the standard network. It should be possible for a desktop in the standard network to connect to either nic by providing the correct ip address.use this server as our first virtualisation hosts server using Xen. I dont want traffic used to upload / download images to the server through nic1 to effect the users traffic on the standard network on nic2. However any attempt at routing (which Im not good at) has led to the tx traffic all going out the default route (users subnet).

Each time I setup the nics via yast2 lan I can get the standard lan nic working ok. but cannot get the management nic working correctly. The server can ping a workstation on another vlan, but the workstation cannot ping the management nic. The default route appears to be forcing all traffic on the host out through this route, which I presume is normal behaviour. Using tcpdump I can see the ping packets received by the server, the server then responds through the default gateway, which the workstation does not see.

However, this normal behaviour will result in extra traffic on the users network when image downloads are initiated from the management interface. If I use a 172.24.1.0 network routed through 172.24.1.1 router setup as our management vlan , and 200.200.1.0 with router 200.200.1.1 as our lan for general users. Where server ips are nic1 10.1.1.10 and nic2 200.200.1.10 My workstation would be 200.200.1.10. If I ping the server at 10.1.1.10
I get no response. If I ping the server at 200.200.1.20 no problem.

Basically I used the network setup recommended by vmware to manage a virtual server. I actually have 4 nics, I thought by just talking about 2 nics the problem would be easier to explain. vmware specify that two nics should be used for management and two for the Lan. This is what I am trying to achieve, but both subnets must operate independently.
