View 1 RepliesI have installed RHEL 5 in my pc with following configuration:
RAM-2GB
Processor : Intel,Dual Core
Motherboard : Asus-MX
The problem is when I configure the network setting i.e.,Ip address, Subnet mask and default gateway, the pc becomes very slow. For opening the terminal it takes 20-25 seconds.
I am trying to setup CentOS server 5 with tftp where the Cisco switch configs can be sent. I have the following:

I'm trying to TFTP router configurations to a server in the same local network without having to first make files in the server's TFTP directory . The transfer of a config file from router to server works perfectly if I make a file with touch and then chmod the file with 777. I found information that says to use the -c or --create option in the TFTP configuration file (/etc/default/tftpd-hpa) if you want TFTP to work without having to create the files first. The problem is, I have set this parameter and restarted TFTP , but it is not working.
Here is my /etc/default/tftpd-hpa file:
# /etc/default/tftpd-hpa
TFTP_USERNAME="tftp"
#TFTP_DIRECTORY="/var/lib/tftpboot"
TFTP_DIRECTORY="/tftp"

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a database server running RHEL 5.1 32 bit that suffered some catastrophic failures about 6 months ago. We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm gonna set up a HA-cluster with the help of DRBD. I have installed DRBD and it's working on the Primary node, I synced them and formated it to ext3 and mounted it successfully on the Primary.
When I'm gonna mount it on the Secondary node it just tells me that I need to specify a filesystem.. so it looks like is hasn't been synced properly or something but both nodes are up to date.
This is my drbd.conf:
Code:
global {
usage-count no;
}
resource dbcluster {
[Code].....
and could mount it without any problems on dbcluster1, but it doesn't work on dbcluster2.. according to the documentation and various howtos I'm suppose to be able to use it, mount it on both nodes etc. unless I've missed something.
Does anyone know if there is something else I need to do to get it running properly on the Secondary?
How long does unix wait till moving from primary to secondary dns server (in /etc/resolv.conf) if the primary is uncontactable?
Where is this setting, so I can change it?
I have a secondary slave dns server setup, it has transferred all the records from the primary master.But when I run a few checks from outside using tools on the net it says:Tried to fetch SOA record for domain, but DNS server ns2.domain.com returned error code Refused.I disabled iptables, and tried again, same result. So I think it is something in the named.conf file? I appreciate any extra set of eyes on it. Just feel like I'm so close!

I'm pensioning off my 10-years-old home server and replacing it with an Ubuntu 10.04 box. The two storage devices are a Western Digital Caviar Green 2.0TB HD and an Intel X25-M 34nm Gen 2 80GB SATA II 2.5inch SSD (the box has 8GB RAM and an i5 750, if it matters).
I don't care much about boot times (since I don't plan to reboot all that often;-); the main frequent, performance-demanding task will be (re)building large open source C or C++ software packages from sources (as an open source contributor, I do that often).
So, I thought I'd keep the SSD as the secondary drive and the HD as the primary one, using the SSD mostly for the files that can otherwise demand a lot of seeking (esp. in a parallel make).
However, the friendly vendor (perhaps more experienced in Windows systems than in Linux ones) thinks the "normal" way to configure the machine would be with the SSD as the primary drive. I'm pretty rusty on configuring and tuning systems, so, I thought I'd better double check on SuperUser.
I just installed primary dns server now want to install new slave server so that in case if primary fails secondary can take requests.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a CentOS 5 server with a 250gb hard drive running close to the maximum space on one of the partitions. 87% of 200gb (/home), roughly. I have a second 250gb hard drive which is completely unused. I just recently did some searching through the forums here and found out about LVM and wanted to implement it. Although the downside is I believe it has to wipe a drive/partition before it can add it as a logical volume.
The process I'm considering following is:
1. add this empty 250gb (SDB) secondary hard drive as a logical volume on LVM and copy everything over from the currently filling up partition on my main hard drive.
2. have LVM add in the old partition on the primary hard drive (SDA)
3. extend my logical volume out to include the old partition. Extending my total hard drive space out to 450gb.

Having some issues setting up sendmail on a (basically) blank RHEL 5.5 server setup. My ultimate goal is to be able to automagically send logs / errors / notifications to ourselves from the server.
Our basic setup is a Win 2003 domain with exchange running on mail.domain.com.au.
I've edited the '/etc/mail/sendmail.mc' and added the :
Code:
line to it.
Also added the domain (domain.com.au) to the '/etc/mail/local-host-names' files
Also edited submit.mc and added
Code:
When I try and send a mail from root or a test user to one of the domain accounts, it seems to go fine, i.e no errors are reported but it never gets delivered.
From the mail logs:
Code:
So it seems to be sent to the queue no problems and when I check the queue :
Code:
Total requests: 0
Not nothing ever gets received. Am I missing something? I have read and read and read but dont seem to be getting any furthur.
So in the end this server doesn't need to do anything except be able to send mail from root to an external mail address.
In oreder to run an application software on RHEL 3 ES server, I created a link forcefully using following command from root id:
# cd /lib64/tls/
# ln -sf libc-2.3.4.so libc.so.6
before that I copied file libc-2.3.4.so from a workstation with OS RHEL 4 WS so that a link can be created.
Now I am unable to run any command except cd & pwd and it gives error messaage as given below:
ls:relocation error:/lib64/tls/libc.so.6:symbol _rtld_global_ro,version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld-linux-x86-64.so.2with link time reference.
Before running this command libc.so.6 was pointing to libc-2.3.so file in path /lib64/libc-2.3.2.so.
I am now unable even to open a new window on the server.Please send me some solution as early as possible because this server is running production data and many users are runnig application on this server.
we are running a Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Upd 5) Kernel 2.4.21-32.ELsmp since several years. The server hosts an old ERP system who will be replaced at the end of the year.However it is necessary that some collegues are able to write some files to that server regulary. Since we are running Windows 7 on several machines, those users aren't anymore able to write to the samba share. Getting files from the share works fine.
But the problem seems not to be situated at the samba service because also the transfer using SSH (WINSCP) from any Win7 system to the server doesn't work.During testing we recogniced that transfering files smaller then 1kb works fine ... any file greater then 1kb ends up in an connection abort. This works with samba and also using SSH.All the workarounds editing some registry entries in Win7 for improving the interoperability between vista / win7 and samba don't work for us ... and also seem not to be the source of the problem.Is there a general known incompatibility between our RHEL version / kernel and Windows 7 regarding file transfers?
