I installed Fedora 12 into a virtual Machine (using virtualbox). Everything was perfect but the screen resolution is only 800*600. I cannot read the text fine and work is impossible.I searched already other posts but i couldn't find anything helpful. How can i set the resolution at least at ca 1280*1024?
monitor is a Optiquest Q19wb. I normally have is set on 1280x1024, but fedora will only go to 800x600. It has detected the monitor correctly. Not sure if being connected to KVM will cause issues. The xorg.conf does not exist. Have installed system-config-display but have not run yet.
I'm a faithful user of Ubuntu Linux, especially 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope. I have a problem with my screen resolution on my LG Flatron L1718S. It's a 17 inch and its recommended resolution is 1280x1024.I was on this resolution all along until now. Now I'm limited to 800x600 resolution. Here's what happened. Before installing Ubuntu 9.04 on a friend's computer, I put in his Seagate 40 Gig hard drive into his Intel Celeron Box with a 2.93 GHz and 512MB ram. I then plugged my monitor into his system. Upon booting, I discovered that the hard drive had a very strange looking operating system called OS2 Warp...seemed like Black XP to me. On the desktop, the icons were so big and bloated, the mouse was frozen, there was so much eyecandy which demanded so much graphics resources.
His graphics card is an onboard one, framebuffer. I then rebooted the machine, this time running the Ubuntu 9.04 live CD. Resolution still ok, with 1024x768 this time. I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and finished. I shut down the machine, unplugged my monitor and plugged it back into my machine, which is a Intel Celeron with a 2.4GHz processor, 1,5GB RAM, 80GIG X 2 Seagate IDE hard Drives, 2 DVD Drives, an LG Spermulti-DVD rewriter and a BENQ DC W2000 rewriter. My graphics card is NVidia GeForce NV34 FX5200 Series, 256MB RAM Graphics Card. Suddenly everything on the desktop is so large, and the maximum resolution now is 800x600. It becomes 640x480 if i add Nvidia drivers, version 173. If I switch over to Windows XP, Service Pack 2, I have no resolution issues there. Nvidia drivers are loaded there as well. No issues with resolution there. To test the screen again, I plugged my monitor back into my friends computer that I mentioned earlier on. The resolution is stuck on 800x600. After plugging the monitor back to my computer, I tried to edit the X.conf using "sudo nano", adding the desired parameters, like undetected screen resolutions, monitor name, device, etc, but nothing worked.
I always had to resort to the backed up configuration file for XOrg. The latest Ubuntu 10,04 Lucid Lynx picks up my monitor with a maximum resolution of 1024x768.The Mandriva One 2008 Live CD also gave me the same result like Ubuntu 10.04, this time giving me more higher resolution options. Strangely enough, from my Ubuntu 9,04 and older, after several tests, the resolution is still stuck to 800x600. When I press the AUTO RESET button on my monitor, the screen says "Processing image Auto Adjustment-For Optimal display, change resolution to 1280x1024". A factory reset did not help. The resolution was perfect until I plugged my monitor into my friend's computer, the one with the 2,93GHz processor. I took another friend's monitor, a HP Cathode Tube Monitor, a 17 inch as well, and plugged it to my machine to test the resolution. The results were glorious! All resolution options were shown, from the lowest "320x240" to beyond "1280x1024". Plugged it back to mine, the same result showed: 800x600 resolution, the lowest being 320x240. I kindly ask for advice on how I can be able to get all the screen resolution options available on my Ubuntu 9.04, like before, because it shows the maximum of800x600, lowest- 320x240 on "display" in "System--Preferences".
I'm stuck at 800x600, and no matter what i try i seem to hit a dead end. I've got the Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS rev 03, and it seems like lots of people have had to fiddle to get it working. Here's the info I've collected and tried so far. Ubuntu Edgy On Intel 945GM Graphics & Wide Screen LCD NoteBooks 100% Linux Addict
HOWTO: install drivers and set up widescreen res. with Intel 945 vga card and Ubuntu - Ubuntu Forums Mostly Harmless: SuSE, Acer aspire 5580 and non-standard resolution 1280x800 Intel 945gm And 1280x800 Laptop Monitor Problem Suse 10.2 - openSUSE Forums I'm not too proficient with linux yet, so the right solution might be here and I'm just not getting it right. Maybe i'm not on the right path at all.
Having given up on a failed OpenSuse 10.3 and installed 11.2, I am now unable to get better screen resolution then 800 X 400. Previously there was no apparent limit, so I know the Viewsonic display is capable of much more.
In Yast2 the nvidia graphics card is identifed OK, but even in Yast I can find no way of getting back to the higher resolution. In the Desktop-tweaking app all I get offered is even lower resoulutions.
Note the last line marked (**) - "from config file", but I only have 1280x1024 there ! And what does that mean
(II) NV(0): Using fuzzy aspect match for initial modes (II) NV(0): Output VGA2 using initial mode 1024x768 (--) NV(0): Virtual size is 1024x1024 (pitch 1024)
And KDE/Display only offers up to 1024x768 too. Didn't try NVIDIA driver yet but 13.0 had no problems with the same monitor, similar Card and nv driver.
I am running Fedora 12 on a T400 Thinkpad. When connector my external monitor prior to powering on the computer or if I restart it, I get a lot of resolution choices from xrandr. See below.
Code: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 303mm x 190mm 1440x900 60.0*+ 50.0 1024x768 60.0
[Code].....
Is there some daemon I need to restart to detect the monitor resolutions correctly, or is there a module I can reload?
There seem to several variables to reproducing the behavior. If I restart without the laptop without the monitor plugged in, log in, and then, plug the monitor in with the monitor powered on prior to plugging, all resolutions are detected properly. However, if I plug the monitor in with it powered off, then power it on, I only get the few options shown in above. Once I get the reduced number of options, it seems to stay that way till I restart regardless of how I unplug the monitor.
I have found a work-around by just forcing the modes with xrandr --newmode and xrandr --addmode, but I would much rather have the modes autodetected.
I have 2 samsung lcd monitors same model....but the issue is after installing fedora 12 using one of the lcd monitors the resolution was perfect..after replacing with the other monitor i am not able to get the right resolution...even in display setting there is no option for that particular resolution..its seems to be strange..i am also not able to find the xorg.conf file in fedora.
Take this scenario If I have rate limited the connections to 4.(i.e if you attempt 4th connection you wont be able to login for some time.) If in a minute I get disconnected 3 times while I was already logged in on the server with a screen session, will I be able to login or I need to keep quite for a minute?

I'm new to Linux I used to use Ubuntu, when I wanted to change resolution in ubuntu just go to xorg.conf but don't have this in Fedora 11. My resolution is 800x600 right now btw.
After booting, logging into KDE i click the System Setting>Display and the screen resolution becomes 1024x768(60.0Hz).I do this everytime to get this resolution. Is there any way to save the screen resolution? And nothing happens if i press "Print Screen SysRq" from keyboard, so can't get any screenshot. Why doesn't "Print Screen SysRq" work?
i recently installed fedora 11 i386 from fedora 8 i386. it was a fresh install. with 8 i had a 1024x768 res and my monitor is a 15.4" Polaroid LCD tv that has a max res of 1280x800. when i goto display and try to change the res it only shows 800x600 and below.
MY current screen resolution is 1200X800 but from my monitor manual I can see that it support these resolution also 1366X768, 1280X960, 1280X1024 but there is no such option to change in my fedora 12. How can I change that?
I have some experience with Linux (mostly Ubuntu) but absolutely none with Fedora. In fact I have needed to re-install twice just to get to this stage. I now have a fully updated Fedora 14 Gnome desktop. I have (finally) got Nvidia graphics drivers up and running. I can open the Nvidia Settings screen and everything looks ok except that the desktop screen resolution doesn't seem correct. I have a Sony Vaio with default screen resolution of 1920x1200. In Nvidia settings it was set to AUTO, but I've changed that as root user to 1920x1200 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and rebooted. My desktop looks quite good, but it's not 1920x1200 - maybe 1600x1200? Perhaps. How do I confirm the current resolution?
I have run Code: glx info | grep direct and the output is Code: direct rendering: Yes GL_EXT_Cg_shader, GL_EXT_depth_bounds_test, GL_EXT_direct_state_access, Which I presume is ok?
i am new with linux. i just installed fedora 6 on my pc. when i start linux os i get a message input signal out of range change setttings to 1280X1024-60Hz
Linux does not start...i changed the settings in windows and tried again but still the problem was not solved
I am using Mercury p4VM800 mother Board and Intel PIV 2 GHz Processor. I have installed the fedora 10 Today. My screen resolution was automatically set to 650x480 and this is the only option available in graphical mode. I am not able to increase the resolution to 1024x768. I once again reinstalled the F10. during the installation, in the boot: option I have entered 'linux resolution=1024x768', but it won't work.
I m trying to install Fedora 10 on my computer with ATI Radeon HD3850 but when anaconda is loaded i get a very wierd resolution that my screen can't read. Using another screen i got an image but it was unreadable. It was like the frequency was wrong or something.
Just installed F11. Been totally frustrated all day and all night with resolutions and DNS bugs. I installed system-config-display so I can get my video working properly. However, my monitor says it's out of range only on the login screen. How can I change the resolution for the login screen to match that of my working environment?
I installed FC11 on my laptop T43 and the video card is ATI Mobility Radeon x300. Now I have a problem of screen resolution with external monitor:
When I do presentation, I have to mirror the two monitors and both set to 1024*768, which is not perfect.
I remember that when I use RHEL 5 desktop edition, The system can automatically detect the external monitor and set it by itself ----- The laptop uses 1400*1050 and the external monitors such as projector uses 1024*768. But I haven't found such feature on FC11.
Im running fedora 11. I pressed the desktop effects button yesterday, and it suddenly changed my resolution to 800x600 when it was previously a lot higher. I couldn't fix it, so i reinstalled fedora 11. Couldn't fix it. Reinstalled Windows XP, then reinstalled fedora 11, and it fixed. Now, 12 hours on, it has gone back to 800x600. How can i fix this?!
How do you get to the place to change the screen resolution through the menus in Fedora 13? When I couldn't find it, I ran gnome-display-properties, changed the resolution, restarted, and when it started back up the resolution was not changed!
What is the recommended way to change the screen resolution?
I have a intel 82845 video card. I want to set the screen resolution to 1600x1200. The highest choice under system> preferences > Monitors is1024x768. I see some posts saying to edit xorg.conf, but when I go to /etc/X11/ there is no xorg.conf. I know the card and my monitor will do this resolution, as I had it to that resolution in windows 7 and in XP.
it will NEVER let me change the screen resolution to 1440x900. It never gives me the option. I then spend hours looking for fixes, making Xconf files and editing them to no avail. The same is true for Fedora 15 (Beta). what can i do to get the 1440x900 option in my "Display" list in Fedora.
I just install a GT240 video card on my desktop. The monitor that I've been using is a 50PH9UK plasma TV. The TV is connected to the desktop through VGA output. It appears that Fedora sets the screen size at 1360x860 by default. However, I prefer to set the screen size at 1020x768. The problem is that everytime I reboot the desktop, Fedora automatically resizes the screen to the default resolution (1360x860). I tried to look for the xcon.fig file in /etc/X11/ but it's not there. It appears that the xcon.fig is missing. Do you know how I can correct the automatic screen reset issue? By the way, I'm using the Fedora 14 KDE version.
Have just upgraded from FC12 - nothing seemed to work as it should - to FC13 which is working quite a lot better - automatically updating everything etc. - and I can now install what I want. The preupgrade installation bizzo seemed to work quite well. But I can't seem to be able to set a "default" screen resolution - being slightly geriatric I like 832x624 - but rather have to do it manually every time I start the OS. Have dug into it quite a lot but can't seem to find a way of having it boot up each time at the res I want it to.
And also, in the past, when clicking onto URLs in emails in Thunderbird they automatically opened themselves in Firefox - but not now. Even clicking "Open in Browser" doesn't seem to do it. Have to copy and paste etc. Surprisingly the other way seems to work OK - "Contact:" tags in Firefox open a Tbird email pane. Do I have to get into about.config or write a user.js file or that sort of thing? FC13 Athlon 64x2/5000 2G RAM
I am using Fedora 12 with KDE4 and when I logged in to my KDE desktop for the first time, the screen resolution was 2048x1536, which was unusable for me. Therefore I set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 through the System Settings > Display in KDE4. However, whenever I log out and back in, the resolution falls back to 2048x1536. When I go to System Settings > Display to set it right, as soon as I click the Display button in System Settings, before changing any resolution, the screen falls back to the 1280x1024 setting
I am using FC10. how do I change the resolution of the "Boot Up" screen? My monitor is 1024x768 capable but my boot screen is 1280x1024. I don't get anything until it finally loads X Windows. When my machine is booting up I cannot see the screen because my monitor can't handle it. When I hook it up to my other monitor (1280x1024 capable) I can see the boot up screen. I'd like to be able to see the boot screen in case there are any errors I need to se. How do I change it?
virtual console (run level 3,5) screen resolution. After installing fed12 the resolution is higher(which is good) then in previous versions. After upgrading from 11 -> 12 the resolution of the virtual consoles stays the same, to large. I already compared grub.conf,i18n which are the same. Where is the resolution configuration for fed 11,12?
I've installed Fedora 12 KDE using VMWare, but I can't for the life of me get my display settings to stick. When I change the resolution, my display responds appropriately but upon logging out or rebooting, these settings are lost. Am I missing something completely obvious here?
