I'm new to Linux I used to use Ubuntu, when I wanted to change resolution in ubuntu just go to xorg.conf but don't have this in Fedora 11. My resolution is 800x600 right now btw.
View 5 RepliesI am using FC10. how do I change the resolution of the "Boot Up" screen? My monitor is 1024x768 capable but my boot screen is 1280x1024. I don't get anything until it finally loads X Windows. When my machine is booting up I cannot see the screen because my monitor can't handle it. When I hook it up to my other monitor (1280x1024 capable) I can see the boot up screen. I'd like to be able to see the boot screen in case there are any errors I need to se. How do I change it?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just finished installing Ubuntu Server 10.4 onto my ASRock ION330. I don't have a spare monitor lying around, so I've plugged my TV into my machince via HDMI. This works, but the text is tiny. There are too many rows and columns of characters (or equivalently, the font is too small). When I try changing the TV resolution to a smaller size, it just cuts out the rest of the text. So from the command line, how do I make the text bigger?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Optiplex GX270, with the Intel video chip. I have a problem with my virtual consoles/terminals (<ctrl-alt>F1-F6). The default screen resolution was set to 1600x1200 at installation, which results in a nearly microscopic, unreadable font. I posted the problem on this thread on ubuntuforums.org, where they suggested adding GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 and GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=640x480 to /etc/default/grub and /etc/grub.d/00_header. Still no joy--the console screen resolution still was 1600x1200.
I have noticed that the screen resolution changes three times during boot; it starts at standard VGA, 640x480, then switches to 1600x1200, then finally to 1024x768, which is my preferred resolution in X. But, if I switch to a virtual console, the resolution shoots up to 1600x1200 again. There are times when I like to use virtual terminals, and I would like to avoid eyestrain.
Just got an HP dv6-2150 laptop. Dual boot with Windows 7 and 9.04 (9.10 will not work but that's a different story). The screen resolution is too low and is set at the highest option available (1024x768 which is a 4:3 aspect ratio). The HP uses the new Intel i3-330m chipset with on-board Intel HD graphics. The system is capable of 1366x768 resolution (16:9) - so how do I get it there? xorg.conf looks real generic - nothing specific to Intel.

With both 1600 x 1200 and 1680 x 1080 I get the resolution but I see lots of shadowing.(The letters are not crisp) Do I need to upgrade any driver ?

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an old PC with an Intel 845 series motherboard, using an onboard graphics solution. By default, it boots with an 800x600 screen resolution. When I change the resolution to 1024x768, the resolution switches perfectly, but the mouse pointer disappears. The mouse can still be USED, but I have to 'guess' where the pointer is. The only way I have found to rectify the situation is to reboot, upon which the resolution returns to 800x600 again as well. Kubuntu 10.04 suffers from the same problem, only in Kubuntu the mouse pointer reappears when the resolution switches back to 800x600, so I don't need to reboot.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi changed the boot up resolution in the boot up loader to 1366*768 (native res of my monitor) the boot option is still set to quiet splash however, instead of showing the progress bar, it would now always display the complete boot up log ( the list of starting services and such) i then manually changed the boot option from to 1024*768 at boot loader screen, and teh splash would show up, but then on next boot up if i stick with 1366*768, it doesnt work again
View 4 Replies View RelatedI searched the archives and didn't find anything on this, and was just wondering if there is a problem if you load Ubuntu 9.1 and have a display that's higher than 1024x768. I'd prefer a machine with a higher res, but I've heard that Ubuntu will only go as high as 1024x768.I'm guessing, however, that by 9.1, it should recog the higher res while loading and it won't be a problem, but thought I'd check before shelling out on a machine with a nicer display.

i recently installed fedora 11 i386 from fedora 8 i386. it was a fresh install. with 8 i had a 1024x768 res and my monitor is a 15.4" Polaroid LCD tv that has a max res of 1280x800. when i goto display and try to change the res it only shows 800x600 and below.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have some experience with Linux (mostly Ubuntu) but absolutely none with Fedora. In fact I have needed to re-install twice just to get to this stage. I now have a fully updated Fedora 14 Gnome desktop. I have (finally) got Nvidia graphics drivers up and running. I can open the Nvidia Settings screen and everything looks ok except that the desktop screen resolution doesn't seem correct. I have a Sony Vaio with default screen resolution of 1920x1200. In Nvidia settings it was set to AUTO, but I've changed that as root user to 1920x1200 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and rebooted. My desktop looks quite good, but it's not 1920x1200 - maybe 1600x1200? Perhaps. How do I confirm the current resolution?

I have been searching this forum and google extensively for the last few hours, and I cant dig up anything useful. I have a very weird problem:
Install Fedora 12 from livecd on a widescreen monitor:
- Using Nvidia 96xx drivers for my Gforce2 MX
Everything runs fine at this point. Connect old 17" flatscreen and no network: Login freezes for about a minute after username selection, no password prompt, no mouse movement, no keyboard response, after timeout I return to login screen before username selection .. and can repeat this or.. At that point (or before that point) I can ctrl+alt F2 to 'terminal' screen, login works fine.

Works fine then, resolution is %^# tho, and cant change it at that point due to errors I get. I'm convinced the problem has nothing to do with my X configuration tbh. Booting from the LiveCD on this configuration works fine. I am tempted to think it has something to do with my GDM, but as my knowledge is limited, I cant figure it out. If I reconnect the widescreen, it all works fine ...
I am using Mercury p4VM800 mother Board and Intel PIV 2 GHz Processor. I have installed the fedora 10 Today. My screen resolution was automatically set to 650x480 and this is the only option available in graphical mode. I am not able to increase the resolution to 1024x768. I once again reinstalled the F10. during the installation, in the boot: option I have entered 'linux resolution=1024x768', but it won't work.

When I do presentation, I have to mirror the two monitors and both set to 1024*768, which is not perfect.
I remember that when I use RHEL 5 desktop edition, The system can automatically detect the external monitor and set it by itself ----- The laptop uses 1400*1050 and the external monitors such as projector uses 1024*768. But I haven't found such feature on FC11.
Im running fedora 11. I pressed the desktop effects button yesterday, and it suddenly changed my resolution to 800x600 when it was previously a lot higher. I couldn't fix it, so i reinstalled fedora 11. Couldn't fix it. Reinstalled Windows XP, then reinstalled fedora 11, and it fixed. Now, 12 hours on, it has gone back to 800x600. How can i fix this?!

I have a intel 82845 video card. I want to set the screen resolution to 1600x1200. The highest choice under system> preferences > Monitors is1024x768. I see some posts saying to edit xorg.conf, but when I go to /etc/X11/ there is no xorg.conf. I know the card and my monitor will do this resolution, as I had it to that resolution in windows 7 and in XP.
