After booting, logging into KDE i click the System Setting>Display and the screen resolution becomes 1024x768(60.0Hz).I do this everytime to get this resolution.Is there any way to save the screen resolution? And nothing happens if i press "Print Screen SysRq" from keyboard, so can't get any screenshot.

I recently installed Fedora 14 KDE and NVIDIA proprietary driver for GeForce FX 5200. I'm able to change the resolution to 1920x1080 (Acer H213H 21.5" lcd monitor), but when I restart the box, I lose these settings and I have to fiddle with NVIDIA and KDE monitor settings until I get the settings back.

Is this (in)correct? What else can I try in order to keep my resolution at 1920x1080? When I restart, it reverts to 640x480.
I didn't have this problem before installing NVIDIA driver, however, I had visual anomalies and slowness in video refresh/repaint whenever moving windows. I don't want to go back to that so I'd like to see how to permanently propagate my resolution settings through reboots of this box. I've search multiple forums with no relevant hits as far as I was able to discern.
I am using 10.10 64bit with a Nvidia GeForce Graphic Card on my Acer 5741G 434 Notebook.
I have always used Compiz and without it I can barely use my Notebook. Apparently I had to install the Nvidia accelerated 3d Drivers (current version) in order to use Compiz.
However I cannot enable the "normal" visual effects (right click on desktop / change bakcground/ visual effects) that are necessary for using compiz.
Also everytime I reboot my resolution goes back to 800x600 although I saved the resolution to 1366. So everytime I start my Notebook I have to go to the Nvidia X server settings and set the resolution to 1366.
What I tried until now:
- I tried to reinstall Ubuntu twice!
- I tried to unistall all nvidia Drivers and install through the terminal using the command "sh" the nvidia drivers i downloaded from their website
- I tried to use the nouveau open source driver
Additional Information:
- when I boot a logo of the nvidia BETA driver appears
- for the past couple days I even experienced another problem: the windows do not have the minimize/close and maximize buttons
I am even willing to install the System again!
I had nothing but problems with the latest 10.10 ubuntu distribiution.
I have 2 samsung lcd monitors same model....but the issue is after installing fedora 12 using one of the lcd monitors the resolution was perfect..after replacing with the other monitor i am not able to get the right resolution...even in display setting there is no option for that particular resolution..its seems to be strange..i am also not able to find the xorg.conf file in fedora.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this has been covered before but I can't find a resolution to the issue. Kubuntu simply refuses to save the screen settings, and each time I reboot it returns to 1440 x 900. The correct resolution should be 1920 x 1080.
KRandr shows 1440x900 (auto) in its drop down Size field. I've set krandr to load on startup so that I can set the correct resolution but of course this means I have to set the panel size as well. I've only recently installed KUbuntu and it's great except for this issue. Surely there must be a simple fix? I'm not a noobie and have about 4 years experience on Ubuntu / openSuse etc.
I'm new to Linux I used to use Ubuntu, when I wanted to change resolution in ubuntu just go to xorg.conf but don't have this in Fedora 11. My resolution is 800x600 right now btw.

I now have a fully updated Fedora 14 Gnome desktop. I have (finally) got Nvidia graphics drivers up and running. I can open the Nvidia Settings screen and everything looks ok except that the desktop screen resolution doesn't seem correct. I have a Sony Vaio with default screen resolution of 1920x1200. In Nvidia settings it was set to AUTO, but I've changed that as root user to 1920x1200 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and rebooted. My desktop looks quite good, but it's not 1920x1200 - maybe 1600x1200? Perhaps. How do I confirm the current resolution?

I am using Mercury p4VM800 mother Board and Intel PIV 2 GHz Processor. I have installed the fedora 10 Today. My screen resolution was automatically set to 650x480 and this is the only option available in graphical mode. I am not able to increase the resolution to 1024x768. I once again reinstalled the F10. during the installation, in the boot: option I have entered 'linux resolution=1024x768', but it won't work.

Im running fedora 11. I pressed the desktop effects button yesterday, and it suddenly changed my resolution to 800x600 when it was previously a lot higher. I couldn't fix it, so i reinstalled fedora 11. Couldn't fix it. Reinstalled Windows XP, then reinstalled fedora 11, and it fixed. Now, 12 hours on, it has gone back to 800x600. How can i fix this?!

I see some posts saying to edit xorg.conf, but when I go to /etc/X11/ there is no xorg.conf. There don't seem to be any display drivers in the software repository like in ubuntu.
I just install a GT240 video card on my desktop. The monitor that I've been using is a 50PH9UK plasma TV. The TV is connected to the desktop through VGA output. It appears that Fedora sets the screen size at 1360x860 by default. However, I prefer to set the screen size at 1020x768. The problem is that everytime I reboot the desktop, Fedora automatically resizes the screen to the default resolution (1360x860). I tried to look for the xcon.fig file in /etc/X11/ but it's not there. It appears that the xcon.fig is missing. Do you know how I can correct the automatic screen reset issue? By the way, I'm using the Fedora 14 KDE version.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHave just upgraded from FC12 - nothing seemed to work as it should - to FC13 which is working quite a lot better - automatically updating everything etc. - and I can now install what I want. The preupgrade installation bizzo seemed to work quite well. But I can't seem to be able to set a "default" screen resolution - being slightly geriatric I like 832x624 - but rather have to do it manually every time I start the OS. Have dug into it quite a lot but can't seem to find a way of having it boot up each time at the res I want it to.
And also, in the past, when clicking onto URLs in emails in Thunderbird they automatically opened themselves in Firefox - but not now. Even clicking "Open in Browser" doesn't seem to do it. Have to copy and paste etc. Surprisingly the other way seems to work OK - "Contact:" tags in Firefox open a Tbird email pane. Do I have to get into about.config or write a user.js file or that sort of thing?

I am using Fedora 12 with KDE4 and when I logged in to my KDE desktop for the first time, the screen resolution was 2048x1536, which was unusable for me. Therefore I set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 through the System Settings > Display in KDE4. However, whenever I log out and back in, the resolution falls back to 2048x1536. When I go to System Settings > Display to set it right, as soon as I click the Display button in System Settings, before changing any resolution, the screen falls back to the 1280x1024 setting

I don't get anything until it finally loads X Windows. When my machine is booting up I cannot see the screen because my monitor can't handle it. I tried to change it using the System->Preferences->Monitor menu item, but it is already set to the max it allows. I noticed that the monitor is unknown and hitting Detect monitors doesn't change anything.

After install of FC13, my command prompt console and tty virtual consoles are a small box in the upper left corner of the screen. It contains tiny 80 characters by 25 rows. I want to fill the screen the old way. I assume the problem is high value screen resolution set automatically to match my display; with fonts based on the smaller pixels. This is NOT X-Windows. I can set that resolution but it has no effect on tty consoles.
It is NOT grub, which I can set with kernel parameter vga=0 to do exactly what I want. Messages from grub are big letters but change to tiny ones at init ("press 'I' for interactive startup" and the beginning of the boot log). This is not an issue with the same display using FC10 and no vga= parameter. Is there a reason that the kernel parameter failed after grub? Can I specify console resolution?
I've just installed Fedora 14 on my DELL inspiron mini 1018. Installed the latest updates (including the latest kernel). Everything works fine except the screen resolution cannot be set to higher than 1024x600. The driver is Intel NM10
I googles the topic and found many forums that guides throgh the xorg.conf file (had to create one) but with no luck.
monitor is a Optiquest Q19wb. I normally have is set on 1280x1024, but fedora will only go to 800x600. It has detected the monitor correctly. Not sure if being connected to KVM will cause issues. The xorg.conf does not exist. Have installed system-config-display but have not run yet.
