I m trying to install Fedora 10 on my computer with ATI Radeon HD3850 but when anaconda is loaded i get a very wierd resolution that my screen can't read. Using another screen i got an image but it was unreadable. It was like the frequency was wrong or something.

My screen resolution was automatically set to 650x480 and this is the only option available in graphical mode. I am not able to increase the resolution to 1024x768. I once again reinstalled the F10. during the installation, in the boot: option I have entered 'linux resolution=1024x768', but it won't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter install of FC13, my command prompt console and tty virtual consoles are a small box in the upper left corner of the screen. It contains tiny 80 characters by 25 rows. I want to fill the screen the old way. I assume the problem is high value screen resolution set automatically to match my display; with fonts based on the smaller pixels. This is NOT X-Windows. I can set that resolution but it has no effect on tty consoles.
It is NOT grub, which I can set with kernel parameter vga=0 to do exactly what I want. Messages from grub are big letters but change to tiny ones at init ("press 'I' for interactive startup" and the beginning of the boot log). This is not an issue with the same display using FC10 and no vga= parameter. Is there a reason that the kernel parameter failed after grub? Can I specify console resolution?
I have fedora 12 and I tried to change the screen resolution under the system menu to a higher one and it changed but now I dont have any menus and I'm not sure if I can use quick keys to go back to the display preferences to reset the screen resolution. Is there anyway I could run the display preferences by running a command in the bash shell or is there a quick key that allows menu access.

I can hear my normal login noises. sounds like I am working blind. after I log in I cannot do anything without knowing whats going on. I tried ctrl-alt + to try to change screen resolution but I cant tell if it pops up. nothing new happens. I cant slave my hard drive to my other windows or linux OS or linux Live CD, it tells me I dont have permission to open files so I can rescue my files. DO I have to buy a new graphics card or new monitor?

It is possible to change the resolution with xrandr, but is there a way to set this permanently (currently it resets on startup)? Previous versions have altered the xorg.conf file and just added a new resolution setting - but I think these settings have been moved out of xorg.conf. Does anyone have any ideas how to change the screen resolution settings permanaently in 11.04?
I'm new to Linux I used to use Ubuntu, when I wanted to change resolution in ubuntu just go to xorg.conf but don't have this in Fedora 11. My resolution is 800x600 right now btw.

i recently installed fedora 11 i386 from fedora 8 i386. it was a fresh install. with 8 i had a 1024x768 res and my monitor is a 15.4" Polaroid LCD tv that has a max res of 1280x800. when i goto display and try to change the res it only shows 800x600 and below.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have some experience with Linux (mostly Ubuntu) but absolutely none with Fedora. In fact I have needed to re-install twice just to get to this stage. I now have a fully updated Fedora 14 Gnome desktop. I have (finally) got Nvidia graphics drivers up and running. I can open the Nvidia Settings screen and everything looks ok except that the desktop screen resolution doesn't seem correct. I have a Sony Vaio with default screen resolution of 1920x1200. In Nvidia settings it was set to AUTO, but I've changed that as root user to 1920x1200 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and rebooted. My desktop looks quite good, but it's not 1920x1200 - maybe 1600x1200? Perhaps. How do I confirm the current resolution?

I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu on my Toshiba Sattelite A25-207 laptop. I totally erased my previous Windows XP OS and everything else. Everything is great, execept the screen resolution. The resolution is set at 800 x 600 and I know that my screen can handle bigger. How do I change this?

On the 28th of April I upgraded my system (laptop with "SIS Mirage 3 Graphics" video card) from Karmic to Lucid and my screen resolution was reduced from 1024*768 to 800*600. I tried during one day to find the suitable driver but no luck on SIS web page.

It works very well and the resolution has jumped now to 1280*800. The only remaining and identified problem is with grub2 : my system is dual-boot (Windows XP and Ubuntu) and the "recovery" mode does not work anymore for ubuntu, I will maybe have to wait for a next update.
I did a dist-upgrade from Karmic to Lucid. Everything *seems* to be running OK, but there's one thing that's really nerve wrecking: When I boot my computer, the "Loading" screen - before the splash screen where everything is initialized shows up - appears on an absurdly low resolution (not sure exactly which). So the graphics are awful, the text is too big and so on.
Aside from that, before the Loading screen shows up - right after "GRUB is loading" - a lot of characters (like plus signs) fill two lines of the screen. I think this might also be because of the resolution. So bottom line is:
1) Is there a way to fix this?
2) Should I be concerned enough to go with a full fresh install?

Just installed F11. Been totally frustrated all day and all night with resolutions and DNS bugs. I installed system-config-display so I can get my video working properly. However, my monitor says it's out of range only on the login screen. How can I change the resolution for the login screen to match that of my working environment?

When I do presentation, I have to mirror the two monitors and both set to 1024*768, which is not perfect.
I remember that when I use RHEL 5 desktop edition, The system can automatically detect the external monitor and set it by itself ----- The laptop uses 1400*1050 and the external monitors such as projector uses 1024*768. But I haven't found such feature on FC11.
Im running fedora 11. I pressed the desktop effects button yesterday, and it suddenly changed my resolution to 800x600 when it was previously a lot higher. I couldn't fix it, so i reinstalled fedora 11. Couldn't fix it. Reinstalled Windows XP, then reinstalled fedora 11, and it fixed. Now, 12 hours on, it has gone back to 800x600. How can i fix this?!

I see some posts saying to edit xorg.conf, but when I go to /etc/X11/ there is no xorg.conf. There don't seem to be any display drivers in the software repository like in ubuntu.
I just install a GT240 video card on my desktop. The monitor that I've been using is a 50PH9UK plasma TV. The TV is connected to the desktop through VGA output. It appears that Fedora sets the screen size at 1360x860 by default. However, I prefer to set the screen size at 1020x768. The problem is that everytime I reboot the desktop, Fedora automatically resizes the screen to the default resolution (1360x860). I tried to look for the xcon.fig file in /etc/X11/ but it's not there. It appears that the xcon.fig is missing. Do you know how I can correct the automatic screen reset issue? By the way, I'm using the Fedora 14 KDE version.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHave just upgraded from FC12 - nothing seemed to work as it should - to FC13 which is working quite a lot better - automatically updating everything etc. - and I can now install what I want. The preupgrade installation bizzo seemed to work quite well. But I can't seem to be able to set a "default" screen resolution - being slightly geriatric I like 832x624 - but rather have to do it manually every time I start the OS. Have dug into it quite a lot but can't seem to find a way of having it boot up each time at the res I want it to.
And also, in the past, when clicking onto URLs in emails in Thunderbird they automatically opened themselves in Firefox - but not now. Even clicking "Open in Browser" doesn't seem to do it. Have to copy and paste etc. Surprisingly the other way seems to work OK - "Contact:" tags in Firefox open a Tbird email pane. Do I have to get into about.config or write a user.js file or that sort of thing?

I am using Fedora 12 with KDE4 and when I logged in to my KDE desktop for the first time, the screen resolution was 2048x1536, which was unusable for me. Therefore I set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 through the System Settings > Display in KDE4. However, whenever I log out and back in, the resolution falls back to 2048x1536. When I go to System Settings > Display to set it right, as soon as I click the Display button in System Settings, before changing any resolution, the screen falls back to the 1280x1024 setting
