Red Hat / Fedora :: When Boot From Clonezilla It Keeps On Freezing At Same Point
Sep 11, 2010
When i boot from Clonezilla it keeps on freezing at the same point.I boot up and select clonezilla live then select the 600X800 (or whatever it is), I then see text scrolling from the bottom of the screen upwards as it is loading the kernel etc but freezes at a specific point for some reason which means i cant clone my drive. Does any have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Performed the daily update, don't recall which packages were available, and the boot process freezes near the end upon trying to start my VNC server. Using rescue disk removed tiger-vnc server. Oddly upon reboot, selinux reset the files even though initial setting was 'permissive'. have not tried re-installed vnc yet.

I work in a library and want to set up several newer PCs. I cloned a HD containing Ubuntu 9.10 using Clonezilla. When I put the HD in another computer (exactly the same as the one on which I did the cloning) it will not boot.
After pressing the power button, it proceeds as follows:
BIOS loads "Grub Loading" appears on screen for several seconds Ubuntu icon appears for several seconds Icon disappears and then nothing, blank screen
Regarding Clonezilla, I used the advanced screens but chose only the default settings.
Also, if I boot to the Clonezilla CD on the cloned computer, I can choose the HD and the OS loads without a problem.

I have a new HP ProBook 4510s, which will probably not run Win 7 which came with it. grin). So I figured I'd image the disk. Clonezilla won't boot. I tried with several CDs. Slax does boot. Ultimate boot CD boots.

I have long been using clonezilla as my backup/restore software and have never had a problem with it before, ever. Today I backed up my entire disk (windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10) and upgraded to 11.04 to try it out. I didn't like it, so I decided to restore the backup. Now I can't boot my computer. It gets to a black screen and nothing happens. No error message, nothing. I can still boot from a live USB (which is what I am using now), and I can also boot from a Windows Live CD. I tried using the MBR repair on Windows and reinstalling Grub through the Ubuntu Live USB. Neither of them have worked. Do you have any ideas what the problem might be?

I'm having a problem figuring out how to clone and restore partitions from images on a test host, ie. I have different Linux and Windows images in sda2 that I need to restore on sda1 to run tests.
Here's a typical scenario:
1. On a brand new hard-disk, create two partitions, one to hold the OS to run tests, and a second to hold Clonezilla images
2. Install XP in sda1
3. Boot with Clonezilla Live, and save sda1 into an image in sda2
4. Install Linux: It installs GRUB as boot loader in the MBR
5. Save Linux into an image in sda2
6. Restore XP: By default, Clonezilla doesn't restore XP's boot loader, and leaves GRUB to boot XP :-/
How can I force Clonezilla to restore the boot loader in the MBR (while leaving the partition table as-is), so that Linux=GRUB and Windows=NTLDR always?

I am at a loss trying to figure out the options to not show the scrolling boot messages during the boot-up of Clonezilla. Is there a way to have a loading splash screen or even have a static logo that is displayed during the boot process? I have my automated recovery method all ready to go short this one last feature. I have searched all over and am coming up empty on this one.

essentially what the title says. Clonezilla cannot be installed in ubuntu so running a live linux on the usb and installing the applications in that is not an option.

My laptop freezes when I boot it after a hibernate. The ubuntu logo shows and then there's a text that says "trying to resume from /dev/disk/by-uuid/8879ds7e-f2e1 (then it continues with a lot of numbers and slashes)" And then nothing happens.

I just performed my very first linux install. I used the Debian 6.0.1a iso. I made it all the way through the installation with no problems whatsoever. I was able to select the version from the grub screen, still everything seemed to be going fine...then it froze. I attached an image of the screen where the system froze:
Its basically the loading screen, times 4! At the top left in case its too hard to read, it says: Loading Linux 2.6.32-5-686, then...Loading initial ramdisk... This sounds all fine and dandy to me but it freezes here. I've tried searching the forums and google for an answer and have come up empty...I'm sure someone has had this problem but it seems to be a tough thing to search for. Would appreciate all the help I can get! Oh and btw, here are the system specs:
circa 2001ish Dell Dimension 4300
P4 1.4ghz
256 ram
onboard video etc...

This one has been driving me nuts for some days now:My Gentoo box which is acting as an internet gateway has two point-to-point interfaces, ppp0 (PPPoE to my ISP) and ppp1 (PPTP VPN link to IPREDator). Packets from my local network are just routed through ppp0 and now the fun part starts: I want to MARK (netfilter...) all packets originating from one specific user on that box in order to use another routing table that will contain a default route via the ppp1 interface.Marking seems to work fine as does the second routing table. But quite mysteriously (at least for me), the packets sent out on ppp1 contain the wrong source IP address, namely the address associated with ppp0.So here is what ifconfig and friends tell me:Network interfaces:
Code:
# ifconfig ppp0
ppp0 Protokoll:Punkt-zu-Punkt Verbindung
[code]...

I am having problems with freezing, hanging, blackouts and being unable to boot with 10.4. After having replaced the hard drive 3 times, and after reading much about these problems, have decided to regress to 9.10. How do I do it? I am weary of cleaning my hard disk to download 9.10 in case it freezes in the middle of the process.

I've just installed debian on a rather old laptop (Toshiba satellite 1800). The installation process was ok, I selected desktop supprot when it asked me which additional software it should set up.
But then, when I tried to boot for the first time, i saw some messages for the first time, but then I coud see only a black screen (yet the backlight is not turned off). Immediately before the screen turns black, the last printed line is something like "starting gnome...". When I select single-user mode in GRUB, the system (with no window manager) starts well.

I was wondering if there is any way to SSH from one computer to another and completely bypass a router or any other network infrastructure. The reason I ask is because my robot ( same one in this post ) often needs to change which wireless network it automatically connects to, however it is getting annoying to have to drag out a monitor and plug it in along with a keyboard and mouse every time this needs to happen. Instead I'd much rather just plug my laptop into the other computer, SSH in and change the network myself.
So I thought I would ask you kind people if this is possible. The robot's computer has unused ethernet and USB ports, and I'd like to use those if at all possible (and with linux, anything is possible! -- sorta). I thought about doing something with ad-hoc, but this would limit my range (in infrastructure mode I can control the thing anywhere there is internet), and is to be avoided.

I attach a picture of my future disk partitioning,as I thought it should be. As you can see, the first two partitions are 2 different windows installations. At the end of the disk, I have specified a partition as ext3 104855 MB (sda9) and swap 8192 MB (sda. What should the the mount point of sda9 be? Should I specify a partition for /, /boot, /home, /tmp, ...etc? Or it is ok to make mount point '/'?

But after this point the reboot operation has failed and gave a blank screen.
At the end the installation failed.I started the machine vaio boot logo comes and stops. i can't even enterbios setup or change boot options.I have unplaged the hd reset the partions, pluged it again and recovered win7So i think the installation damaged the file system.i have tried the above steps 2 times and came up with the same result.I have installed fedora 13 before with no problem.

Some do. Most don't. (For example FoF launches gives a black screen and freezes Fedora hard-reset needed) I tried a heap of games from the repos. Most of them freeze I wouldn't know where to start to solve the problem.. Also most N64 Emulators don't work so no games or anything is REALLY boring...

I've recently installed Fedora 12, and it constantly freezes. The only common aspect between the freezes is that the freezes occurred when firefox was running. When it does freeze, I'm not able to use ctrl+alt+f[1...6] or even ctrl+alt+backspace.

My screen has started freezing periodically. The mouse still moves the cursor but nothing else responds. Ctrl-Alt -F1 doesn't give me a terminal screen nor does Ctrl-Alt-Backspace restart X I must turn off the computer and turn it on again to reboot. I don't remember having this problem with Fedora 11, but I recently moved to Fedora 12. I am using the kernel
2.6.32.14-127.fc12.i686.PAE
Looking at /var/log/messages,
I find repeated instances of the error message
[drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB(4).
before the reboot.
Google provides many references going back to April for this string, mostly on Ubuntu related sites. I do have an 128 MB ATI Radeon X300 graphics card but it is over four years old, and I didn't have this problem with earlier versions of Fedora. Also, the google references seem to refer to hibernation, which I am not doing, at least not intentionally. Finally, I see that Xorg configuration has changed significantly since I last checked. (I can't find xorg.conf.) Can anyone refer me to a relatively succinct description of how it now works?

I'm running Fedora 13 32-bit on a Samsung NC20 netbook (specifications here: [URL]. Everything works fine, with the exception of media playback via VLC and mplayer. The biggest problem is that the entire OS frequently locks up when exiting full-screen playback in either application, and occasionally locks-up when starting playback via mplayer. Video is also always on top of other windows, regardless of whether the application is configured to be always on top.
The lock-ups are severe enough to warrant powering off the machine, as CTRL+ALT+Fx does nothing. I suspect this is related to the machine's VIA CPU/graphics chipset - I've had problems with them before in other Linux distros, but playback was fine under F12 on the same machine. Because the video windows are always on top, I suspect there's a general issue affecting media playback - hopefully configuration related!
