Here are my situation:

mysql version: 5.5
I tried to use MySQL Administrator to connect to my database on the host 192.168.1.120
and my computer is under the same network with ip: 192.168.1.105
But it shows the error msg: Could not connect to MySQL instance at 192.168.1.120
Error: Can't connect to MySQL server on '192.168.1.120'(61)(code 2003)
On the server side I've tried:

I try to use fedora 11 as my home server. The server should be remotely managed by VNC. A normal VNC-setup does not allow to log into the login screen, but that is what I need !!
Notice that I would like to maintain the sever using the normal gnome gui. I have been investigating lots of options to get VNC running this way, have been searching all over, but did not find any working solution. All solutions I found where based on XVNC which is not available for fedora 11 as far as I know.
*Solved* I have been reading the following guide on how to use the VNC programs and a GUI to connect to my main machine from my laptop via my LAN and router:

This allows me to control the server remotely, and run applications on the server remotely, with the GUI output being shown on my laptop, which is really neat I had Eclipse + PDT running on my server and had to stop it and start a new instance remotely from the laptop via VNC viewer, as Eclipse said the workspace I wanted to use was already in use.
So starting the VNC server on the main machine does not allow me to access the programs that are already running on the main machine under the native X server. However I can now do PHP debugging remotely using Eclipse + PDT now, and all the PHP source code is on the server machine. That's OK, but I would like to do more than that. I want to be able to connect to the native X server on my main machine, and control all the applications running on the main machine remotely from my laptop, without having to shut them down and restart them again via a VNC viewer.
Is there some sort of remote control program I can use to allow me to connect to the running X server on my main machine from my laptop, and control those applications remotely please, so the desktop layout on the main machine's screen is mirrored on the laptop screen?
I succeeded in setting up a vnc server on a fedpra9 tested it locally and it was successfully connected but no connection done from other machine in the network , even though they can see each othervnc server is pingable se linux is disabled

I am trying to remotely access the Vista desktop using my Ubuntu laptop. I have forwarded port 5900 to my Vista desktop, and attempted connecting to (VistaLocalAddress):5900 using Vinagre. Sadly enough, it instantly returns "Connection Closed."
I have tried setting up some sort of remote access in a similar manner about 3 times in the past, finally i just made a forum account and created this thread in a plea for help.
PS: I forgot to mention that the Vista desktop has allow remote connections ENABLED.
I am using smartd for monitoring disk's status and i am using smartmontools-5.39.1.tar.gz package for compilation. I am able to compile and run it on HP servers(redhat). Now,i need to execute it for IBM RAID SERVERS too on which compilation is done but i need to configure smartd.conf for them so as to monitor all existing disks. (only DEVICESCAN works in conf file). Rest devices to monitor(eg. ata, sda devices) don't work at all. it is possible in IBM raid servers and if yes, then what configurations should i use.

Scenario is like this I have three virtual redhat server(R1,R2,R3) 5.0 on VMware workstation 7.0 installed on window 7(physical machine), on R1 I have DNS server , On R2 I have Apache web server and I have hosted a website called "geekgadget.com" just for testing purpose, R3 is just a normal server nothing installed on it yet..
Problem : I can access my website [URL] from all of my three virtual redhat server but when I try to access it from some of my physical XP,window 7 machines as well as from virtual XP machine present on my local LAN, website cannot be accessed so I am not getting the point why it happens because I checked that my port 80 is listening.
I connected two machines, I have their given of the addresses ip in a static way and not with DHCP. I gave to the machine server the address: 192.168.0.1, and in the machine client the address 192.168.0.2.

I used to have PCLinuxOS set up as an SSH server so that I could quickly and easily share files with other computers in the house. Since the switch, other computers cannot connect to the SSH server unless I use sudo. I cannot set up a network connection in the GUI; "Unable to connect to server. Please check your settings and try again". Same thing happens if I use the ssh command without sudo. Is Fedora blocking something?

However, these network files are on linux, and finding the open files (not password protected) is fine. But we need the mac book to get into the protected files to edit our media. When we connect to the linux server, there is a pop-up asking for a login. We enter the correct credentials that work for everyone else to get into our protected files, but these credentials don't work... There is a message that pops up: "This operation cannot be completed because the original file '<file_name_here>' cannot be found." But it found the other open files...? what do we do to get this to work? The macbook is 'os x' and the linux server is 'fedora 10'

I'm not terribly new to Linux, but I am new to the forums, so hear me out! I am in the process of creating an electronic mapwall for our meteorology program, and have designed the computing system from scratch. I have two Linux Boxes, each with capabilities for 6 attached monitors...a total of 12 displays driven from two machines. My intention is to have one machine be the master...it has a touchpanel control. The inputs to the touchpanel will then trigger events for the both the master and the slave machine to display. Each of them has a specific IP address (DNS entry), and are not on a subnet.
Now...is there a way to remotely login to the slave machine and have it display on it's OWN monitors? The code is Java and which works on the master machine to animate directories of .gifs for each of the master's attached monitors. I will most likely have Java execute shell commands for the remote login (ssh), but I believe the answer lies somewhere in the X-configuration. Do I have the machines in an adverse configuration (creation of a subnet would be better)? Lots of questions...lots of desire...few answers!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran a yum update this morning on my Fedora 10 box (i386), which updated the 'nfs-utils' package from 1.1.4-4.fc10 to 1.1.4-6.fc10. Before the update I was able to connect to the fedora NFS exports just fine from my Macbook Pro running latest version of Leopard on a simple home network. After the update, when I try to connect to the NFS export it waits for a while at leopard's "Connecting to Server" dialog box, and after about a minute I get a message saying "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct" (though my UID's are the same on both systems). My /etc/exports and /etc/sysconfig/nfs files were unchanged by the update. I tried restarting the nfs services as well as shutting down iptables and setting SELinux to permissive, etc. with no success.
I get the following in /var/log/messages (192.168.1.102 is the address of my macbook):
I was able to download the RPM for the older version of nfs-utils and then do a 'yum localinstall' to revert to the older version. This fixed my issues completely and my setup works as it did before. However I am curious to know why the latest version of nfs-utils breaks my setup, and whether it is a problem with my setup or if I should just wait for the next version to come out and see if the same thing happens.
Here is my /etc/exports file. If I understand this correctly it should allow connections from anyone with an IP address on my local network.

I've forwarded port 22 for both UDP and TCP packets to my Slackware machine.I don't really know what information you need so just ask me and I'll respond to the best of my abilities.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rsync files and directories from a RedHat linux host(v 4.5 & 4.7) to a Windows server 2003R2 Standard Edition with cygwin running. I'm executing the rsync command from the cygwin shell. The transfer involves rsync'ing approximately 1 TB of data from the linux server to the windows server. After about 280+GB of data transfer, the transfer just dies.
There seems to be no particular file or directory that the transfer stops at. I'm able to rsync GB's of data from other linux hosts to this cygwin server with no problem. Files and directories rsync fine.The network infrastructure is essentially the same regardless of the server being rsync'ed in that it is GB Ethernet running through Cisco GB switches. There appear to be no glitches or hiccups across the network path.
I've asked the folks at rsync.samba.org if they know of any problems or issues. Their response has been neutral in that if the version of rsync that cygwin has ported is within standards then there is no rsync reason this problem should happen.I've asked the cygwin support site if they know of any issues and they have yet to reply. So, my question is whether the version of rsync that is ported to cygwin is standard. If so, is there any reason cygwin & rsync keep failing like this?
I've asked the local rsync on linux guru's and they can't see any reason this should fail from a linux perspective. Apparently I am our company cygwin knowledge base by default.
I have been able to find enough information that I need to enable 'time-udp' in /etc/xinetd.d/ But there isn't an entry for time-udp. How do I enable time-udp (Time of Day server) on a Red Hat system? It's RHEL 5.6 64bit.
