Has anyone got experience connecting a linux machine to a Microsoft VPN server using RSA authentication? What puzzles me perhaps most about this topic is the absolute dirth of information. If it is not possible, can anyone tell me why?

I need to be able to connect to a MySQL database using Microsoft Access 20074. The database is going to be running on my server, which runs ubuntu server 10.10.
So far, I have installed MySQL server and libmyodbc. I took the deetails for the odbc.ini file from the ODBC ubuntu community page, so this is the current setup (database name is business):

I'm trying to connect to an XPpro machine using terminal server, I've been to the microsoft web sight and configured xp as they explain. Which consists of "allow remote desktop connections" and "re configure the fire wall", Done. I've obtained the ip address of the router and the user name and password of the xp machine and still I cannot access it!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been wanting to switch from my routers VPN to my headless linux box VPN. I have everything setup in the PPTP and then forwarded the ports to it. Heres the kicker. My APPLE Iphone connects to the VPN without a problem at all. Views Intranet pages etc.
My Windoz XP is kicking and screaming and one error after another. This is my setup on XP: I entered Ip Entered exact same credentials as used for connecting with my iphone turned off "use gateway on remote network" Changed type to PPTP VPN connecting my xp machine to this PPTP server on linux?
I have tripwire enterprise (not open source) agent running on one of my rhel4.8 web servers (I have actually tried with two servers with same results). The agent is a simple install rpm bin file and appears to be running as it should and the server for tripwire enterprise is set up accordingly. A windows tripwire enterprise agent is also on a windows machine that works perfectly well. But I cannot seem to get the tripwire server to talk to the agent on the red hat machine.
I can connect to port 9898 on the server, but the agent who also talks over the same port doesn't appear to be responding to the server on this port. There are no iptables set up to block the requests, there is no firewall set up (disabled) . Network team can see the packet requests being sent over the routers fine... So can't see why there would be a problem. So i reverted to the use of net cat.

But I get connection refused. Is there anything I could be missing here? Redhat is not my Linux of preference and it may be something obvious!
I have intalled RADIUS server on one machine which has fedora 10. I have installed freeradius-server-2.1.10 on it(server machine IP 10.150.110.42).
I have one more machine with redhat linux on which i have installed pam_radius-1.3.17(client machine IP 10.150.113.4).
I have done the follwoing configuration at both sides

Above mentioned is my configuration. when i try to connect client with SSH it is not sending a request for authenticating user to RADIUS server. what else configuration i have to do, or if there are any mistakes in my configuration
As part of the project I'm working on, I need to set up a server with IPSec authentication only connections to a large number of low bandwidth clients. I'm making use of the PF_KEY interface to populate the keys on the server and while prototyping things I've found that the initial setup is taking longer than I had expected. At the start of my test, entries are being added to the database at a rate of around 30/second, but as time goes on this is dropping significantly. I ran a test up to around 100k entries and by then the rate had dropped to 10/second. It's key to me that if I reboot my server that the Security Associations can be repopulated in a very short period, so I do genuinely need this to be much faster.
Two questions:
1) Does anyone have any experience of running with a large number of SAs set up, and if so what sort of setup rate did you get?
2) Are there things I can do to speed up the provisioning of these SAs? I'd really like to see a rate in the thousands per second.
We've been doing the prototyping on the 2.6 kernel.
I'm new in UNIX & trying to access the server using SSH but I encounter this error PAM Authentication Error. I use edit /etc/ssh/sshd_login & set the PermitRootLogin to yes. But didn't work. I used this command ps -ef | grep sshd & saying Process environment requires procfs(5). I don't know what to do now. What I want is access it by SSH but I got Access Denied. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Postgresql 8.4.2-2. I'm trying to remote into my server securely. I figure I could do so with ssh. Apparently I figured correctly, as per, [URL] and [URL] I setup the ssh tunnel. ssh -L 5432:serverip:5432 Then I setup pgadmin3 to connect as follows:
host: localhost
port: 5432
user: postgres
maintenance db: postgres
And I receive the following error:
An error has occurred: Quote: An error has occurred: Error connecting to the server: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I can connect with Code: psql from the cli after connecting to the terminal via ssh. So I know that I'm using the correct password.
I always experience "authentication error" when connecting to server.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm using ubuntu and i run a game server. Ever since i posted my server i have an IP address trying to join my game on a different port everytime, seems random and its nonstop for a week since its been up.

I port scanned them and i think its not a person but some service or server type buisness.
I use a linksys router, i couldnt find anything on blocking IP's at the router from the outside.
Is there anything i can do to stop them before the get to this server to login?
I need to make a choice on what authentication protocol I want to use for Authentication and Authorization. I was looking at Radius and then literature suggested that Diameter was a better protocol. Keep in mind I need this on a hetrogeneous setup ( linux & windows together). Diameter seemed like a good fit until I discovered that the open source code no longer seems to be maintained ( C/C++).
I was also looking at Kerberos as an option though there is alot overhead with the server. SSL/TLS or EAP? I am looking for simple but secure and am new at the security protocols.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy server is connected to the Internet for ssh on port 22 with root logon disabled, a single non-dictionary word user name allowed, and pki authentication only (about as secure as I can make it). I've previously run fc5 and 9 servers using the same sshd config since 2006 and had no security troubles, so I'm happy, but.. After the fc13 install and configuration, logins from a host on a remote network are taking about 1m 30s to complete! A (partial) console output for ssh -vv appears below. The lines marked with "**" were the lines after which significant pauses happen. This is fully repeatable.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhile tampering with the settings for my wireless connection by right-clicking on the icon on the top menu i was originally asked for my password for authentication. i selected the option to remember the password for future sessions unintentionally.
how do i get it back to the original setting so that it asks for a password before allowing me into the editing screen? i tried preferences > system > authorisations > network-manager-settings, but it didnt work.

Normally there's something in sshd_config that can be switched to true or yes to allow root login but I can't see it in fedora 12.I can login via root at a terminal no problem, just not via ssh, I get access denied every time. I dont need future compatibility etc as yet, just need to do some experiments, so any distribution would be fine. FYI - I am trying BOINC installation and testing.
I am running a linux server and am familiar with scp somewhat, and have used it successfully in the past. But that was talking to another linux server. Thing is, here I need to talk with a Windows server. How do I do that. In addition, their server may require a VPN, which seems to add another layer of complexity.

I find myself using rsync, ssh, scp, and the like quite often, but it is very annoying constantly needing to provide a password. This sounds like a job for RSA keys, but is it safe to do so on my laptop I take whenever I travel? If my laptop were to be stolen, my personal and private keys would be available to the thief. Is it instead better to use something like kerberos (which I'm not very familiar with, ie. I've used it at work but never took the time to learn how it works).
This isn't much of an issue with my home network since it is protected behind my router. However, I have the same issue with rsync, and ssh to my work PC. These are the RSA keys I'm worried about if my laptop were to be stolen.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit dual boot with Windows 7. On Windows 7 i have microsoft security essentials for antivirus/antispyware. Recently I noticed GRUB boot failures after having booted to windows but couldn't see why. Just to be clear, I am using GRUB2. Anyway, the failure is as follows:
PC is powered on, goes on towards displaying GRUB menu but it only shows GRUB Loading and restarts, so the list doesn't show.and the restart keeps happening.Now the workaround so far is to boot using a live cd and fix GRUB according to the instructions posted here:
https:[url]....And after fixing GRUB2, i either have to boot into the desktop or recovery mode, to update GRUB2 menu once again using

command and then everything works.
Now coming to what i think is the cause of the problem. Everytime MSE (microsoft security essentials) is updated be it standalone, or over internet, including failed updates, the boot failure happens.I've googled microsoft and ubuntu forums but couldn't find a fix.
I have a problem with ldap client authentication in ubuntu. I am using rhel5 as openldap server and I configured ubuntu as client, when I am trying to login the following message is coming."su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info. Sorry"
But when I do search through "ldapsearch" command output is coming without any errors, Can anybody explain what would be problem.
