Programming :: Replacing Text With A Http Link With Sed?

Dec 10, 2010

Been at this all morning and fail on every attempt.

I have a file called sitemapindex.xml

Its contents just are names of the other sitemaps. Google gets pissy because it isn't in a http:// format.

So, I need "<loc>sitemap-c1mediawiki-............</loc>" to be replaced with "<loc>http://domain.tld/sitemap-c1mediawiki-............</loc>".

Here's the expression I've been trying:

find /path/to/site/sitemap-index-c1mediawiki* -type f | xargs sed -i 's/[<loc>sitemap]/[<loc>http://domain.tld/]/'

It fails.

I've tried with and without brackets.

General :: Variables In Text File - How To Get Values When Printing Out

Apr 13, 2010

I'm doing some bash-scripting and want to be able to print some text (just plain text) files into the new bash-scripts, created within a loop. Here's a short example of what I do:

Code:
# main bash script #
#!/bin/bash
##Filename
variable1=10
for ((j=0;j<=40;j+=1))
do
## Create another bash-script
echo "#!/bin/bash" >> bash_script_$j
... some stuff...
cat file1.txt >> bash_script_$j
... some more stuff...
done
where the text file (file1.txt) I want to print in the the new bash script looks something like:

Code:
# file1.txt #
...some stuff...
logsave log some_program($variable1)
mv output_$j folder_$j/
... some more stuff...

I.e, the text file contains variables such as "$j", "$variable1" etc that are undefined. Doing the above works for creating new bash scripts (bash_script_1 - bash_script_40) but the variables are not determined. I would like, if possible, to somehow print the text in file1.txt into the new bash-scripts with the variables determined, i.e:

Code:
# bash_script_1 #
...some stuff...
logsave log some_program(10)
mv output_1 folder_1/
... some more stuff...

The text files I read are quite extensive so I would really prefer not having to paste them into the FOR-loop directly.

General :: Custom TCP Parameters For Multiple Interfaces - Change The Default Values

Feb 16, 2011

My question is about TCP parameters in Linux. By now, I want to change the default values of:

Initial Timeout
ACK Delay
Idle Connection Timeout

I have a Linux Box with kernel 2.6.x and 2 ethernet interfaces. I know TCP is a stack that doesn't have anything to do with ethernet devices. Said that, the question: is there a way to set custom values for each interface? For example, a server listening to connections in eth0 would use one value for Idle Connection Timeout and another server listening to connections in eth1 could use a different value for that parameter.

OpenSUSE :: Append Text To An Entry In An Existing File?

Aug 30, 2010

How do you append text to an entry in an existing file? For example, lets say I have a file called "env.logon" in /home/myself/bin that contains the following text:

PATH=/bin:/sbin If I wanted to add, via command line, ":/usr/bin:/usr/sbin" to the PATH= and I
used the "echo" command (echo "PATH=:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin) it would create a second entry and my file would look like:

PATH=/bin:/sbin
PATH=:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin
What I want is for it to look like:
PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin

Is there a way to get this result via command line?

Programming :: Splitting A File Based On The Values Read From An Input File?

I am splitting a file based on the values read from an input file. The below one is the script.

1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).

2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

for pharmacyf in *
do
tablename=`echo $pharmacyf |cut -f4 -d'.' `
while read pharmacyid
do
grep -w $pharmacyid $pharmacyf >> $OUT/ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat

Programming :: Sorting Specific Values From An XML File

Sep 21, 2010

I need a shell script which gathers the data from a remote XML file and then displays it according to my needs.. I need this for my job due to the fact that I need to keep track price changes of euro, usd, gold, etc. The XML file I am talking about is located at this page: here. The reason I am posting the URL is that I need to use curl to get this file and it does NOT have newlines after each tag. I thought that that would be a problem. Here is what I need from the script: 1) curl to get the page 2) make use of sed, awk, etc. to display its contents in a more structured and readable manner as shown below:

A: 64.125 (% -0.26)
B: 81.130 (% -0.32)
C: 1.4930 (% 0.00)
D: 1.9590 (% 0.36)

Programming :: Grep Multiple Values In Single Pass Through Log File?

Nov 13, 2010

I have a huge binary log file. There are lets say 4 id's that I want to find in a log file. I know that those 4 id's will be present in the log file and I also know in what order they will be present. I want to find 1st id from the log then 2nd id and then third id and so on..

Simple/inefficient solution is: Loop through the id's and then grep in the log file. Problem with this solution is for each id grep will search from the beginning of the file.

Better/efficient solution would be: Sine I know the order in which id's will be present in the log file. Loop through id's, grep 1st id and then move on to grep 2nd id and so on...this way I can grep all id's in one pass. Is this solution possible ?

I have 500000 + values to find in log files and I have to find efficient solution for it.

Programming :: Delete Line Of Text From Text File Via Shell?

Jan 13, 2010

I have to delete a certain line of text from the a textfile via ubuntu's shell scripting.I have done research, and it seems that most people advocate the usage of sed /d option. sed makes does not edit the text file. Hence, most options I discovered involved the use of a temporary variable/textfile and then overwriting the old file with the temporary new file. Is there anyway whereby I can bypass the use of temporary storage containers? I hope there is any magical combination of commands to edit the file directly.

Programming :: Formatting Fields And Text Being Displayed From Text File?

Feb 9, 2011

I want to display the contents of a particular log file (simple text file, I mean in Linux). But there is a problem: The contents need to be organized in a fixed format. Have a look at this log file:

sampleLog.txt

Code:

User Name: XYZ
Reported Problems Description: Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah!

[code]....

So, while displaying the contents of above file on a web page, I want to format the field names found in the log file: User Name:, Reported Problems Description:, and Remarks:. These fields may contain a variable length of text and no specific line number is assumed for them to appear on.

The desired output should look like this:

User Name: XYZ
Reported Problems Description: Blah! Blah! Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah! Blah!Blah!

[code]....

Well, what I am trying to do may sound wierd to some of you. The filed "Reported Problems Description:" can possible contain text which embeds colon (.

General :: Sed - Replacing Only Text With Several Specific Lines Excluded

Jun 17, 2010

As much as I didn't want to ask a sed question, especially considering there's already one on this page I've looked as best I could and cant find the solution. Id like to use sed to replace occurrences of a pattern but exclude two or 3 specific lines that are not consecutive. For example I know with 1,10 i could exclude the first 10 lines, what is the syntax if I just wanted to exclude line 3 and 7. The sed command I'm working with right now is for rearranging Ethernets.

cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules | sed -e '/'"$found1fullmac"'/!s/eth1/'"found1eth"'/' > /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

I would like to replace $found1fullmac with two variables representing line numbers to exclude from the replacement.
