Programming :: Using Expr Command To Read Values From Two Different Files?

Mar 20, 2011

I have an assignment where I have to use an expr command to read values from File1.txt and File2.txtHeres the assignment:Create two files.File1 has one line with the value of 5.ile2 has one line with the value of 100.Edit your new file using Gedit or VI and change it so it performs the following actions:Read the values from the files above (file1 and file2)Divide the value from file2 by the value in file1.utput the result of this calculation to a new file called file3. My .scr file is week3prog3_george, in file1 I put var1=5, file2 is var1=20.Then, I put in my .scr file this:

#!/bin/bash
expr File2.txt / File1.txt

It returns an error message stating "non-integer argument."And...how do you point the .scr file to read values from two different files, and the book my school has provided does not contain the info I need.

Programming :: Bash Script 'read' With Default Values

Mar 5, 2010

I have a fallowing simple bash script:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo -n "Please insert your name: "
read NAME

[Code]....

It works fine, but is it possible to have default values using bash read(1b)? I mean if user is prompter for sex, he just pushes ENTER and by default 'm' is chosen. Or if user is prompted for hometown and he doesn't insert anything, but just pushes ENTER button, 'New-York' sis chosen by default Are such default values possible in bash?

Programming :: Working With System Call - Read Output And Parse Values

I have the following code:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main() {
system("ps -ef | grep myprocessname");
return 0; }

When I run this program it outputs the following list of running processes:
Code:
root 10279 10275 0 13:02 ? 00:00:00 myprocessname myvar1=value1 myvar2=value2
root 10341 10337 1 13:02 ? 00:00:00 myprocessname myvar1=value1 myvar2=value2

What I want to really do is instead of writing the output to screen I want to read the output and parse the various values value1, value2 etc. What is the best way to do this?

Programming :: Splitting A File Based On The Values Read From An Input File?

Jul 27, 2010

I am splitting a file based on the values read from an input file. The below one is the script.

1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).

2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

for pharmacyf in *
do
tablename=`echo $pharmacyf |cut -f4 -d'.' `
while read pharmacyid
do
grep -w $pharmacyid $pharmacyf >> $OUT/ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat

Programming :: Read Entire Text Files Into C++?

Sep 15, 2010

im making a program (for the heck of it) that rewrites it code everytime it is run.(my ambition is to turn it into my c++ teacher and watch her be confuzled as to why she cant read my code and why it does weird things) Ive just started c++ programming, and managed to rewrite a program so that when it is run a second time, it says hello world. My problem is that I can only input the file as a single string. What I need to do is to be able to input the entire file into the c++ program, as a single object and then ifstream it out with the destination as the source code.

Also, it would help alot if there was someway to write additional lines to an existing text file instead of overwriting what is already there. That way, every time my c++ runs and rebuilds itself, it adds another couple of lines of code to a txt file and when the final iteration is complete, it loads a text file that was created by the program and uses it to program itself. I heard there is some sort of spawn command, can it be used to open up notepad and write to it? it would be awsome if my various programs could open different notepads with various messages

Programming :: Create A Separate Thread For Program Which Basically Polls Using The Read Command?

Sep 28, 2010

I'm trying to create a separate thread for my program which basically polls using the read command. However this new thread seems to block the main thread, anyone know why this could happen.

In main I call this function pthread_create(&mainEventThread, NULL, GenericEventThread, NULL);

which calls
/*New threads start function */
void *GenericEventThread()
{
short int i, nError = -1;

I've used pthread_self to check that a new thread is being created, so why is the while loop in one thread blocking the main thread from running, I haven't used the join function anywhere in my code.

Programming :: Command For Find/Replace In Text Files (inc. Files In Sub-folders)?

Oct 11, 2010

I found this command that works great finding and replacing a simple string to another in files located in that folder and all sub-folders.

Code: find . -name '*.php' | xargs perl -pi -e 's/OldText/NewText/g'

The problem I have is that I need to replace a more complex string, like this: Old string: /mnt/stor6-wc2-dfw1/627896/982574/ New string: /mnt/stor8-wc2-dfw1/369587/302589/ There I don't know how to do it... since the / is what separates the old from the new strings, and the strings that I want to replace have / in it. Also, I would like to know how to specify under what folder replace the files, for example, I want that it search/replaces all files under /var/www/mysite/htdocs folder.

Debian Programming :: Check If Files Exists By Read Input From A File

Jul 27, 2013

I need a script that dose the following checks if files exists by read input from a file then compares them to the files listed in the directory if they don’t exists the script would report back which file dose not exists. I also need to format the output so that files are grouped in different groups, group A, B, and C and etc based on file name. I would like the output of that do not exists files to be sorted based on second number in the file name than group according. I understand some of the basics of bash scripting something along of the lines of a loop and if statements might do the trick. Below is what I have so far. I don’t car so much about the script reporting back the file exists I prefer to only know if the file is missing and is less than 3 days old. Problem is if a file dose not exists in the reports file the test compares against the wrong file.

Group A

Foo22000.tar.gz
Foo22010.tar.gz

Group B

foo25000.tar.gz
foo25100.tar.gz

Group C

foo26000.tar.gz

Programming :: BASH Read Text List Zip Files Into A Single Archive?

Jul 22, 2010

AKA "zipping on the fly .. the slow-as-molasses way." The list includes full pathnames to each file, and they're all in subfolders of the same parent folder (which, unfortunately, is not the root folder of the drive or system on which the files reside). A cleaned-up and radio-ready portion of the list looks like

Quote:

.../taiga/ahqr-va-choyvp/bv0884-073.jpg
.../taiga/ahqr-va-choyvp/bv2635-073.jpg
.../taiga/ahqr-va-choyvp/bv3067-175.jpg

[code]....

What I'd like to be able to do is zip all the files in the list into a single archive, to avoid the step of having to copy them to the same location (presumably another folder on the HD) and then zip that folder. I'm more inclined to make provisions about extracting to a single folder at some other time. Is this possible in BASH, or would I have to consider a faster, more robust scripting language such as python or perl?

No matter what i do i cant seem to remove the first 4 characters from the MYPROT array to leave only the digits. Also i cant seem to read the array back???

I thought it would simply be a loop reading each line and passing the fields in variables, executing upnpc commands i need then moving to the next line of the file until it reached the EOF.

What I need to do is to make this ugly looking reply in to something more readable, basically if TAKEN print occupied and if free print its yours to grab. I have been struggling with the in_array function but i'm not getting anywhere close in getting it to work.
