Im trying to use the mathematical input with maxima in Texmacs (Lubuntu 10.10), but this part of the plugin seems to not work properly. Maxima works very good without that option, but if i "press it" only appears a question mark (?)

I have a note HP Pavilion 15-p171nr with Deban Wheezy installed
used X = Gnome (gdm3) in classic view

The problem: backlight is in maximum state and I can not change it.
There are a tons of advices like this:
1 - Open terminal (as a superuser) and type: gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub
2 - In the text file that opens, find the line which says GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" and, inbetween the "", insert the words "acpi_backlight=vendor" (the line will be as follows: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_backlight=vendor"), save and close the file.
3 - Back again in the terminal session, type: sudo update-grub
4 - Reboot.
It does not work...

I have a non-broadcast network (ad-hoc?) that I attempt to connect to via openSUSE 11.2 running off live USB. It does nothing. It never connects and when I view it with available networks it just shows the name and "insecure" (even though it's WPA2Personal) and no percentage. How do I get wireless to work?

Also, on my opensuse laptop I have installed XP as virtual OS in vmware player.I have setup samba using this guide that was given to me on this forum. From opensuse laptop I can see my Win 7 desktop, but cant log in. When I start Yast it hangs at "downloading opensuse(...)repdata.xml". the only way to bring up the main window is to skip autorefresh
It seems like it cannot connect to any reporitories at all. When you try to install software from within Yast it is, once again, unable to download anything.

I have VirtualBox 4.0.0 running on open SuSE 11.3 64bit. It works well. My connection to the internet is via a Pantech UML290 usb modem. I can select the usb device and use the Verizon Access Manager to connect to the internet. It says it is connected, but there doesn't seem to be a real connection. I can't hit any web sites with my browser. How can I get this working? I have also tried connecting via Linux then from within VB selecting the usb device, but that just disconnects the modem in the process.

I just installed OpenSuse 11.1 on a netbook via network install. It's a dual boot with windows XP. In XP, the wireless card works perfectly, but in openSuse, it never connects. It cann see the wireless networks available but it won't connect to my network!
I even tried this to no avail: Wireless will not work when dual-boot with Windows XP&Vista | SUSE & openSUSE
I'm using:
Asus EEE 1002 HA
Wireless Card: Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter
WPA2 (although when I switched the router to WPA, it still didn't work)
The weird thing is during install I told it to test the wireless card and it worked, but now it doesn't.

trying to make my 3G modem (a ZTE MF622) work with OpenSUSE 11.2. KNetworkManager is recognizing it (so I suppose it's not on Storage Mode), I can create the 3G connection and connect, but I can't navigate on any sites (ping gives "unknown host" for any IP). Also, the KNetworkManager applet doesn't show anything on fields "Name servers" and "Domains" (they are blank). Tried some instructions from the internet here and there, but didn't have any luck.

I am experiencing troubles when connecting to my new private network under Linux (works fine with Windows). I cannot get an ip address and the logs tell me a bit more, but I would like to know how to proceed to resolve this issue. My network adapter is an Intel Wifi Link 5100 using the iwlagn driver. Connecting to other WEP APs usually works flawless, it's the first time my system won't connect at all to this particular WEP encrypted access point.

I have installed my modem via YaST. It has been detected. but it is a bit odd, when I see this message in Modem Configuration Overview window. Under Modem Device tab I have the followings: this one I believe should be my modem:
HTML Code:
82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Modem Controller
and this one is my ISP provider settings that I just created.
HTML Code:
modem0 Modem Easy-Dial up
My modem is a PCI modem and it has been detected just fine by SUSE 11.3 but I have this info also at the bottom.
HTML Code:
82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Modem Controller (not connected)
The device is not configured. Press Edit for configuration.and I have no idea about this one, since the modem is installed on the board, what does it mean it is not connected? My problem is after installing the modem i can not make a dial up connection via network manager, because there is no dial up option to choose from. which is also odd.

I loaded up OpenSuSE 11.4 on a HP DL360 G5 64 bit server. When the server boots up, I can connect via the wan or the local network segment. After some time, I will lose the WAN connection. If I ssh back into the computer from another computer the WAN connection can connect again for a period of time. The WAN connect is from the Internet. The firewall is off and so is AppArmor.
