View 1 RepliesUbuntu 9.10 is on ext4, XP is on NTFS and the data to be accessed by both OS is on FAT32.
Both systems have Japanese language support enabled, but I am unable to read the Japanese file names from the FAT32 partition when using Ubuntu.
I recently installed the F12, but it cannot correctly show the Chinese file and directory names on a Windows partition with a fat32 file system. What shall I do?
The disk partition is mounted as
Code:
UUID=471D-E212 /mnt/d vfat umask=0022,uid=xxx,gid=xxx 0 0
in the /etc/fstab.
I am writing a script that involves reading the content of a file present in a directory and/or its sub directory. I know readdir returns all the files & DIR names in a directory but how to check weather readdir is returning a file or a directory
View 2 Replies View RelatedI built the indexes, but when I search I get this: Top-Level Documentation Application Manuals
openSUSE Documentation (en)
Htdig error: Unable to read word database file '/home/philip/.kde4/share/apps/khelpcenter/index//opensuse-manuals_en.words.db'

the UNIX manual pages work, the Application Manuals show nothing, and the openSUSE Documentation shows the same error. This is the same no matter what I search for.
I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? The file "my file" cannot be moved to the trash. Show Details Unable to create trashing info file: Read-only file system
So when I click on delete I get another error message:
Error while deleting.
There was an error deleting Case Study Database. Show Details Error removing file: Read-only file system
At this point I can only click on Skip, Skip All, or Cancel.
I have not changed anything on the stick recently so I dont know what is causing the problem.
I have a samba share that was previously hosted by and accessed by Windows operating systems. As a result the filenames of all the files are not very command-line/linux friendly. I need to get a script or app that can go through the samba share recursively and change all file names to lowercase and replace spaces in the names with a ".", "_" or something.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI insert a certain cdrom into my DVD drive, the cd is mounted meaning I do can see the cd rom icon on my desktop. The cd rom icon name is the correct label of the cdrom but when I try to open the cdrom it results to be empty.
Then on the same computer I have installed Virtual Box and the Windows 7 image does read the content of the cdrom.
How can I read the content of the cdrom with ubuntu 9.10?
I have downloaded WINE and I have downloaded the WoW install.exe file and all goes good during installation (after i simply double clicked the install.exe file) but about half way through I got an error message that "installer is unable to read file C:/commen files/world of warcraft. FAILED: No such file or directory
even though the icon does disappear from the desk top. I have been ignoring it since the USB drive seems working fine. Now I have a more serious problem. When I tried to copy files onto the USB drive it says "read only file system" and doesn't let me. I tried unplug and plug the USB key but that doesn't help.
I restore tape backup on my Linux server. At the time of booting the server it cannot able to read the filesystems.

I am looking for an application that will read the file names in a folder and generate a comma delimited file. I want then to import the comma delimited file contests to a spread sheet such as open office.I hava a number of PDF files generated from a scanner, each file with its own scaner generated file name. I want to put these into a data base so I can add the title and other reference information to provide a data base.

I came across this issue today and it changes everything I know about file permissions in linux. I created the following files in my system :
Code:
/tmp> ls -lad /tmp/testperm/
drwx------ 2 sagi users 4096 Apr 12 20:23 /tmp/testperm/
/tmp> ls -lad /tmp/testperm/file.txt
-rw------- 1 sagi users 12 Apr 12 20:23 /tmp/testperm/file.txt
[code]....
One more thing, as you can see I also set that only the owner of the directory (which is me again) can read and cd (the execute bit) to the directory. how come user 'root' can read the content of the file ?
Code:
# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)
# cat /tmp/testperm/file.txt

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11 and a few days later my ecryptfs filesystem began misbehaving in a weird way. In my home directory, many subdirectory names are duplicated verbatim. Here's an ls -F excerpt:
Desktop/
Desktop/
Documents/
Documents/
Downloads/
Downloads/
I can no longer access files in those directories (if I ls the directory, it appears empty; I can cd to it, but there's nothing inside). Not all of the directories are duplicated/damaged like this, but most are. A few non-directory files are also duplicated in this fashion, so for example:

I am supposed to take some small files, and print them to a specific printer, such that the small files are concatenated into one file. The file name has to be included in the file that gets printed.
Should I be looking to concatenate the files into one file with the file names included, and then print them?
something like: -printfunction -printername < file*

What commands do i use for that? or do i need to do something else?
