Is there a way to enable the top parts and the borders of windows in openSUSE to be partially transparent? If so, I'd be grateful if someone told me how. Like in this image, the top part where it says "Mozilla Firefox" and the border of that window are all partially transparent (yes, I know that's Windows, lol). I'm running 11.4 KDE.[URL]..

I'm trying to get to the config page where I once enabled wobbly windows and translucent borders. For the life of me, I can't seem to find it. I would think it to be in the desktop settings and associated with the qt4 engine somewhere, but it continues to evade me. How did I arrive at that config page??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 10.04 and after installing the drivers for my graphic card ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570, windows borders do not appear anymore. When I type "metacity --replace" borders come back, but I can't use compiz, also when I try to disable "Window Decoration" from the compizConfig Settings it doesn't work, it keeps always enabled. I tried this hack here [URL] but it didn't work for me (or I didn't apply it correctly, I'm new to the system).

Its makin things a bit difficult minimizing windows switching windows etc, it doesnt happen all the time, just every other time i boot up, but its happened twice in a row now. And when it doesnt do it sometimes the borders close, minimize and expand boxes just disspear along with the title at the top i.e Firefox [URL]

I have recently upgraded to 11.04 and everything works except for compiz and emerald, every time I enable compiz to be the window manager the borders either do not work or they do not appear. I switched the window manager to metacity and now the borders work but I can not get any effects at all. Also emerald never replaced the window borders either.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm posting this for a new member who needs help, his registration hasn't gone through yet. His computer (10.04) a fresh install not 3 weeks old, has now had all his windows loose their outer borders and the 3 close, minimize, and maximize buttons. Clicking on one underneath another does not allow any other ones to focus- only the top window, Firefox, remains in focus. None of the windows are movable. I've used force quit to close windows. New windows open the same way- with no outer border, now locked to the upper left corner, and still unmovable.
Things that were open and close with force quit are still in the panel bars, and the panel bars are showing up like they are focused on. I've never seen this problem before in 10.04 or even 8.04. Has anyone else run into this, know how to fix it?
I have searched around but did not find anything similar, so I make a new post. I have installed Mac4Lin icons, theme and font, and I am using Emerald (with "emerald --replace" command in the window manager of compiz) and everythin is fine.
Some few times (every 4~5 days), when I start the system, it opens up as the title, like Emerald is not starting or something. If I logoff and then logon again, it is fine. Not that is a serious problem... just annoying in case you want to demonstrate the "power of the system" in an important meeting and it shows up like that.
So I have Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit, and I'm having strange problems with parts of windows staying up on screen after I close them. Check the attached files to see what I mean. I have Visual Effects turned off, and I've tried removing compiz altogether, but I still see this happen every once in a while.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed a fresh new Jessie (8.1) with the Cinnamon environment a few days a go, and yesterday I started seeing a strange issue seemingly happening at random.
I'm not sure what I do to cause this, but every few hours all the text and some of the icons (launcher, notifications and some applications) on the panel disappear. Most icons in the menu also vanish.
I've just noticed that some windows also disappear, but instead of showing the window behind them, I see my background image (see attached image).
I can't interact with windows which I can't see, but I can move and resize them (they have no border to grab, but alt+middle mouse works).
I can get around the issue by restarting Cinnamon (Alt+F2, r), but that works only part of the time.
Dmesg shows nothing (most recent message was plugging in my mouse & keyboard).
I'm running this on a Lenovo X201 (which uses Intel HD graphics QM57) and an external monitor (dual monitor configuration)...
in unity borders dissappear and I cannot move the windows. how do I prevent this from happening?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI cannot use several keys (1,`, q, a, z & Esc) on my keyboard.I have just installed Kubuntu 11.04, AMD64 version via Wubi. Everything went well w/o any errors. At 1st boot, I also logged in w/o errors, and then tried some apps for Office & Network and shut down. The keyboard was still alright at that time. However, The problem started on the 2nd boot after the installation. Those keys do not response in Kubuntu & Windows 7 login screen and even in my PC's BIOS setup.
My laptop model is Dell Lattitude E6410, core i5, Intel HD Graphics, WD HDD 160GB. And I installed on the other partition, not my Windows one.
I recently did a fresh reinstall of opensuse 11.2 kde. After I installed it I updated the computer. However, when I returned to my computer after the update, I found the window borders to be missing and that I couldn't do anything with the desktop. I restarted, and lo and behold! I had KDE 4.4! Except I didn't want to install it. I perfectly like kde 4.3, and would probably prefer to move back to it until kde 4.4 becomes stable. Why did this happen? Had opensuse moved on to kde 4.4 already? Is there a way to get KDE 4.3 without reinstalling?

MySQL's admin utility displays the same. Can't figure out where to change it. Also other thread is about Desktop-Settings utility crashes. Should I just do a restore of user install defaults? How would I do that and save some of my desktop custom program icons?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAttempting install of 11.3 on previous 11.2 dual windows boot box. I want to format the Linux parts including /Home and retain the Win / NTFS part. (dual boot) Peculiar behavior of install DVD. Here is fdisk -l that clearly indicates a 500 GB HD and the Win partition, extended partition and the 3 basic Linux partitions and they seem okay in total.

I aborted the installation. What could possibly cause the 11.2 parts and bootloader to get this wacked up ? Outside of some sound issues the 11.2 install works okay for the most part. No crashing or lockups. Really want to get up to 11.3. though. I obviously have some work to do with 35 GB of missing space on the HD and Grub living someplace on the wrong side of the river. Suggestions and a pointer or two would be most welcome guys. ( I really don't want the pain of installing that �other� OP system or I'd reformat and reinstall nice and clean.) Do I need to repartition, change mount points and reinstall Grub maybe.
I get a window that shows a broken image which shifts to the left in bits - top half, bottom quarter, etc. - and the colours flicker wildly in separate parts of the image. The shell from which it was launched gives this output: Any of the controls I try gives me errors, such as:

i hav a problem im have dell laptop i hav windows xp os in it once i unpartition some space in it and installed opensuse 11.3 gnome version in it is wkg fine but sound is not coming for that i went to windows os and tried to unpatition the linux version now the problem is that im unable to install the linux and im unable to get the windows os also. im have important data and s/w in windows when im trying to install linux its giving some error like bootloader error and partion error and in partion its showing windows c and d drives ntfs drives but when trying to boot through dvd or hard disk im unable to get the windows os atlest im only getting GRUB> message

I was previously able to write to this (Opensuse 11.0 / 11.1 / 11.2) and nothing has changed on the Windows server (besides for windows updates).

I had windows 7 on my computer on drive D,then I installed opensuse 11.2 on space of drive C. But when I restarted my computer,I couldn't see windows 7 bootloader on the list, all of the options related to opensuse.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just switched to OpenSUSE/KDE4 from Ubuntu/Gnome2. Overall, I am very pleased. However, I have an issue that I have been unable to resolve. That is, Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole Terminal do not have maximize buttons in their titlebars and there is not any other way to maximize these windows. Also, if I right click on the task manager tab for those applications then the "Maximize" menu item in the context menu is grayed out so it is inaccessible too. The bottom line is that there is no way to maximize these windows. All other applications, such as Dolphin, Chromium, Konqurer, LibreOffice, etc. have maximize buttons and a "maximize" menu item in their task manager context menus. Then, why don't Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole also have maximize buttons? I am using the Oxygen theme and have configured the buttons on the Oxygen theme to include the Maximize button.

So what do I install in the Suse/openSUSE range? I want a lightweight Linux, like Meego or openSUSE with a light Desktop. I need to be able to use remote connections like RDP and VNC to both Linux and windows machines, so maybe Meego can't do that? But maybe openSUSE with a very light Desktop will. I'll use gmail from the netbook, no need for Thunderbird etc. I like to have multimedia.
I was programming much in windows and I slowly get used to linux, I'm using SUSE 11.2 as a server in my home network. I about 10 windows-pc's in my network, which is structured as following: Very simple router (no dhcp) -> Switch -> Win1, Win2, .., Suse, I already managed to set up the DHCP server, and it works like a charm, I'm not able to get in the internet with the Windows PC's. I tried pinging the gateway from both suse11.2 and win but it failed. Pinging win7 to suse and other way around is possible. internet works on suse11.2, but it doesn't works on win.
I want to share files from my opensuse 11.3 laptop and Windows XP desktop. It works well between Vista and XP. The domain name is WORKGROUP I checked everything: firewall Opensuse (open ports), firewall XP (disabled), XP workgroup name (WORKGROUP), opensuse Samba workgroup name (WORKGROUP) And my domain controller is set to "Not a DC" Still when I launch network in Dolphin I get "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network"
View 9 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I went to perform the Service Pack 1 Upgrade for Win 7. This crashed out with an error. On researching the problem I found a solution to fix the problem by marking the Windows partition as active. I did this (via Computer Mgmt -> Disk Mgmt). This allowed the SP1 upgrade to work, however on reboot I got an error BOOTMGR missing. This I rather rashly resolved by using the Windows 7 install DVD in Recovery mode to reinstall the Windows Boot manager via bootrec /Fixboot I thought I would then be able to use the Opensuse 11.2 install disk to fix grub.
I use the Opensuse install disk and select Repair system -> Expert Mode -> Install New Boot Loader then select Other -> Reread Configuration from Disk. This adds Win 7 back into the grub menu. I then select OK and get the message "the bootloader was installed successfully". The problem then comes when I click my way through OK and Next to finish the install. At the end of the process I get the message "An error occurred during the installation" and I'm no further forward.
FYI the PC has a single SATA disk installed partitioned as follows:
dev/sda1 100Mb Win System Parkition
dev/sda2 Windows NTFS
dev/sda3 Windows FAT
Sometimes when I boot up and log in, I have no window borders. The entire area with min/max/close is just gone. If I log out and back in, most times it comes back. What gives?

Upon reboot, I have a black border around the entire Desktop. My screen resolution is set to maximum.Being new to all this, I am somewhat perplexed how the ATI Catalyst Control Center works.In Windows 7, this is the Scaling Option in the Catalyst Control Center which can easily rectify the situation. I have verified that the Catalyst Control Center is installed but I have no idea how to proceed to fix this.I have been searching Google for two days with no luck - lots of suggestions, but no fix. Can someone point me in the right direction as I would like to learn and understand how to use this OS.
