View 5 RepliesI have installed OpenSuse 11.4, KDE 4.6. In konqueror filemanagement I don't get fileproperties when hovering over the files with the mouse. Only right click -> properties will give me the properties. Now properties are not too much a concern but it is the preview I want. Dolphin does give me properties and preview. What can I do to get fileproperties to be displayed while hovering over the files?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the Folder View applet on the Desktop viewing the Desktop Folder "~/Desktop"
Some shortcuts are outdated because of new installation of opensuse 11.2...
How can I add icons there in?
I can add icons to the Desktop and Taskbar but no in this Folder View on the Desktop (BTW: Is this Panel called "Folder View applet"?)
If I try to move a icon from Desktop to this Panel it is not moved in this panel it is placed behind this Panel...
And how can I get more than one of this panels for example one displays the Desktop folder other the home dir ...
under 11.2/KDE 4.35 I'm not able to move through the directory tree, neither with dolphin nor with konqueror.
If I click on a folder, a plus or minus sign appear alternately, but the folder isn't opened.
If I double-click on the folder icon, nothing happens.
So under 11.2 I just can not access the files stored under a previously installed 11.1 in the home tree (i.e in a separate partition on that HD) !
Is my machine too slow ? Do I have hardware too old (Pentium III Katmai on an Intel mainboard with onboard graphics) ?
Only one question: Where is located the trash folder ? (in which directory)

I was wondering if there is a way to make Nautilus scroll up when opening folders. If I open a folder at the bottom of the page, the subfolders open below and I have to use the scroll bar to move down the page to see what's under the top folder. I would like to have it put the opened folder at the top of the page so I can see as many subfolders and files as possible without having to scroll. Something like the file roller when you are looking for a place to extract files. It does exactly what I'm looking for. Are there any settings I can change in Nautilus that would provide this function?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have KDE 4.6.5 and (up until now) I could see and access files and folders on my Desktop. My Desktop was set to display the contents of /home/john/Desktop.
I set this up from Right-click --> Folder View Settings --> View --> Layout --> Folder View. Then Location --> specify a folder == /home/john/Desktop.
But now when I do this I don't see the contents of the /home/john/Desktop folder. Instead I see a blank screen with a tab on the RHS labeled "New Activity".
How do I revert to viewing the traditional Desktop and its traditional contents?
When I create a new user account and login the first time to Gnome a series of files and directories is created in the user's home directory. Those directories are for example:
.ICEauthority
.cache
.config
.dbus
.gnupg
Bilder
Desktop
Documents
Musik
Videos
Vorlagen
ffentlich
How can I control what files and directories are created? I checked /etc/skel but none of those entries where there. In particular, I do not want to have the folders "Bilder", "Documents", "Musik", "Videos", "Vorlagen" and "ffentlich" being created.
I am trying to extract the phpmyadim zip to the htdocs folder. Every time I extract the files to the folder, it does not extract anything. I also tried extracting the file to another folder with success, but when I tried dragging and dropping the folder to the htdocs folder I had no luck. I cant write to the folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSuse 10.3 and I've tried to set permissions on my folder and subfolders from root:root to wwwrun:www. In the shell it shows all folders and files with the correct permissions, but in the GUI it still says root:root and so my web application can't write to it, until I manually set the subfolders permission in the GUI.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to open a terminal when viewing a folder and the terminal would automatically be in that directory so all I would have to do is type the command. Now, it doesn't seem to work like that. No matter what folder I'm viewing within Konquerer or Dolphin, the terminal is always at the /home folder no matter what. Can I change this behavior and set it to the way it used to work on my old system? (SuSE 10.0)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI close Nautilus and it pops open again and always to the folder "media". The only thing I had in the media was a CDROM, which I unmounted and that made no difference. I then removed the CD from the CDROM drive and that made no difference. Any ideas why opensuse 11.2 would insist on keeping a Nautilus window open all the time -- defaulting the "/media" folder on initial opening?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know there are permissions one can assign to certain files and folders, but this won't come in handy if you need quick access to a file -and as User I often do- and don't want to slow down getting root permissions. You know, just open-close-move on. Is there a way, as user, to assign a password to a file or a folder? It would make the job a lot easier and more efficient.
