View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I close the lid on my laptop, it blanks the screen but does not sleep or hibernate. When I open the lid, the screen wakes and everything runs, but my mouse cursor has disappeared. I can restart the desktop ctrl-alt-backspace and get my mouse back.
My hardware:
- Lenovo Thinkpad X61 Tablet
- Intel GM965 video
- Ubuntu Jaunty (v9.04)
I installed the files from ppa:canonical-dx-team/une and installed Unity. Now, when I run Unity on my desktop and move my cursor on it, it disappears! Here is what I see in Terminal: [URL]
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Ubuntu Tweaks (that's about all I remember changing) the cursor disappears whenever I hibernate or suspend the laptop. I am running 10.04.1 and have compiz running but changing to less effects seems to have no effect on this problem. when I have no cursor the only thing I can do is restart and it reappears and does fine until I suspend or hibernate. Some hours later - I just found the setting that caused this. The tweak has a box that was clicked to disable the touchpad while typing. This caused the blank cursor when awakened. working now. This shouldn't happen, but I guess this is one to leave alone. Here we go again. cursor disappears after suspend.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 8.04 Ubuntu to 10.04. The mouse cursor works fine during login. As soon as the system switches to the desktop, the arrow cursor "image" disappears (remains working ..you just can't see it). The OS will also randomly shut down requiring a re boot. For the mouse cursor I am currently using a work around which is to hit the control button which "locates" the mouse and once located, I move to select and open gnome terminal. Typing a couple of Chars. and mouse movement brings up the "I" bar cursor image, and then the mouse image will operate properly until re boot, where the issue returns. On the random shut down I am not 100 percent that the system has shut down... it may be that the PC is turning off the monitor (the monitor appears to power cycle over and over until cntl-alt-del is pressed). As far as the PC I am using:
Dual Boot Linux on hda and XP Home on hdb.PC is Dell 2400 (I believe built in Intel 945 video card) Problem only occurs with Ubuntu 10.04 not reproducable under WinXP so I believe the problem to be kernel or driver issue in Ubuntu. I have checked several forums and bug reports but have seen no solutions although there seem to be several users with similar/same problems.
Don't know what is going on here, but Evolution won't start. I've tried reinstalling. When I click the icon to open it, the little loading cursor displays for a few seconds then it disappears and nothing else happens.

Only right click -> properties will give me the properties. Now properties are not too much a concern but it is the preview I want. Dolphin does give me properties and preview.What can I do to get fileproperties to be displayed while hovering over the files?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been a very happy user of Debian Squeeze (gnome) for a few months already.
Everything works great, but I am encountering an annoying, and regular problem: almost every time I update my system (through synaptic) and reboot, my desktop theme gets reset to the more "blocky" default gnome one.
What I do is run "gnome-settings-daemon," either as normal or super user, reboot, and get back my chosen original theme.
Debian encrypted LVM disappears every time on sda when I install any other also encrypted Linux distro on sdb.
How can I set up Debian that way that it wouldn't disappear or how can I recover it form UEFI?
I managed to get Debian up and running on my Encore 2 tablet. Wireless works on the 4.3 kernel, but the interface disappears when I wake the machine from suspend. There are no errors in dmesg, nothing related to wireless in syslog, and the brcmfmac driver is still in the kernel. Removing and reloading the module doesn't make the interface reappear. I'm not sure where to look for the problem.
View 0 Replies View RelatedDuring my upgrade this fine afternoon, my system went into screensaver mode and would not bring up the security window. The window would flash for a very brief period and then disappear. I tried to enter the password to no avail. After 10 minutes of this, I gulped and re-booted. It seems to boot ok, but just like in the install, the login security window flashes and disappers. I have tried to type in the data with no luck. Does anyone have a work around? I am currently using my knoppix live disk until I can burn a deb live disk.

As part of the (longish) process I was advised to run apt-get autoremove, which removed what looked like a stunning amount of material. As another part I noticed a huge number of error messages about nonexistent locale files (I think) whizzing by.
Well, the result has various cosmetic changes and no doubt fewer bugs, but it doesn't have WLAN. I used to see an icon at the top right like two tadpoles chasing each other, turning into a set of green (if I was lucky) or grey (if not) bars. No longer. No tadpoles, no bars, no error message, nothing.
This very recent thread ("Just isntall debian 6.0, wired networking ok but no wireless") looks helpful. However, I don't know what WLAN hardware I've got or how to get a text dump of this kind of thing. 4D696B65 kindly points the person who asked to wiki.debian.org/ipw2200. I don't know whether I have any of these "Intel PRO/Wireless 2100, 2200 and 2915 devices" but I'm encouraged to read there that [the file] is now also available in the nonfree-firmware tarball which we build regularly on cdimage.debian.org. Supply this blob on a CD/floppy/USB drive etc. and d-i will do the right thing. I don't know what either "blob" or "d-i" means, but I was rather hoping that some software or other would look at the hardware, look at the available firmware, and install accordingly (as happened months ago). So got the (small) file; I opened it up; I copied the contents to a CD (even though it's not an ISO). But apt-cdrom add is not interested.
I have a fresh install of squeeze without a desktop environment. I then installed a basic gnome environment so I can choose my own apps ('apt-get install gdm3' pulls in enough for that). I then had to install some packages to get mobile broadband working:It all works fine until I disconnect it via Gnome network manager. I cannot reconnect using Gnome network manager because it doesn't show in the menu, but it does show while I'm connected. If I pull the dongle out and plug it in again, it reconnects without issue.I think I may be missing some packages, but I don't know what. I tried usb-modeswitch, but no change

During this week, I installed Debian twice on this system using NetInst, connected trough ethernet. Yesterday, I noticed the ethernet controller wasn't listed by lspci. I restarted, it appeared but didn't work. I turned off the system, started it a bit later and the device worked normally. This odd behavior has happened during the last twenty four hours. The ethernet controller appears and disappears. I enabled the "Boot from LAN" BIOS option to check the availability of the device right upon start and I'd say there's a 50% chance that it doesn't appear. I posted this message connected through the ethernet device.
I guess I should return the laptop because of this problem but I know very little about hardware and I wanted to ask first.
I have installed Windows 7 and Debian in my Laptop. The problem is that when I get to the Grub Menu, If I select Windows 7,and then I turn off my pc, Grub dissapears and I can't no longer enter any OS. Every time this happens I have to re-install the Grub through a live CD. (This doesn't happen if I use Debian, but sometimes I must enter Windows to play games or anything like that hehe)
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
Am running Ubuntu NBR as the sole OS on my Dell Mini 9. Switched over in March to 9.10 NBR. Everything worked fine.Upgraded to 10.04 when it was released. It's awesome EXCEPT for this busy cursor thing.As soon as I log in, all the time my cursor is the spinning wheel of busyness.... It works just as a normal cursor would - my computer also does not seem to be slower due to any operations.If I open an application, the cursor will behave as usual within the window but if I more my cursor to the title bar or switch out of the application, the "busy cursor" resumes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was looking around in Xfce4 Taskmanager to see what's taking up some memory/processor power, and I noticed when I move the cursor around in cirlces, the CPU spikes from about 5%-10% clear up to about 40%. I also have Audacious2, Chromium, and a file manager open as well.
Why is this? My system is an Eee PC with a 1.6GHz Atom processor and 2GB of DDR2 RAM.
This is not a programming question and this is why I am asking it here.I tested the program "dc" for cursor keys behaviour keys and the system responded by printing strange "^[[A" to the screen instead of doing what cursor keys should do. I am thinking that, I have some package missing that is making interactive CLI programs to misprint characters to the screen.Does anyone know what I need to install, because I must assume, programs in Stable must behave properly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Debian 7.8.0 amd64 gnome on my new ASRock Q2900 mobo/cpu combo (It has an embedded Intel J2900)
The system boots fine but I am unable to restart it. If I tell the system to restart I see the mobo splash screen but before I see any mention of grub it gets stuck with a flashing cursor in the top left.
At this point I can hold the power button for 5 seconds and after it shuts down, I can boot it no problem. I can work my way around this issue but there shouldn't be any reason to need to.
I run Debian squeeze 64 bits, minimal install ( I started with Xorg, kdebase and kdm using netinstall ).In KDE settings I can change the mouse cursor theme, and so I changed the default theme ( which is Oxygen Black ) into KDe Classic. But everytime I logout or restart I,m back to the default theme?

I was expecting that there be something in preferences in GNOME v2 but is not there (Is there some enhancement there in GNOME v3?) Anyways, after googling quite a bit, I came across a tip to change the the cursor theme. sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme The thing to do here is choose some alternative theme and logout and login back.

I'm thinking about switching to Debian from Ubuntu, so I installed Debian (debian-7.8.0-amd64-DVD-1) in dual boot with my Ubuntu 14.10 (Uefi install). Installation process was OK (I think), I got a working GRUB that recognizes both OS, but Debian boots to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner (Ubuntu boots perfectly). I also ran into some graphics-related problems while installing/booting Ubuntu, due to my AMD GPU graphics, that I solved adding the nomodeset option to the kernel in GRUB, but that no longer seems to do the trick here. I have a laptop running Debian stable. I have used xfce for a long time, but in an attempt to get away from needing to haul a mouse everywhere, I decided to migrate to xmonad (raw, with no DE), a tiling window manager that is extremely keyboard-friendly. I've also switched to conkeror (not konqueror, mind you), a very keyboard-friendly firefox-based browser. I have completely eliminated my need for a mouse on this laptop and have even disabled the touchpad by blacklisting the psmouse driver. There is still an annoying visible cursor sitting in the middle of the screen upon starting X. Is there anyway to (probably in the X config files) disable the visible cursor, or if not, have its default starting location be the bottom right corner (where it's least visible)?
View 7 Replies View RelatedA while back I started this topic in: [URL]. I settled on bugsbunny's suggestion of the Black DMZ cursors, because it worked a little better than the default. I have also looked at the Crystal cursor theme with no luck: No matter what choice, there is always an outline around the cursor on either black or white background. All I am hoping for is a simple hairline cursor that turns white over black background and black over a white background.
For my tired eyes, the blobiness of a cursor outline makes it awfully hard to control placing the cursor between the precise two letters necessary for selecting text. Is this maybe a Window Manager, rather than cursor problem? Or maybe I am looking for an interaction between Pointer and Window Manager that is not really an option under X11. (Btw. my Window Manager is Openbox with the Gnome Desktop support option).
