It might be obvious, but I can't figure it out. I would have thought you can just right-click and an option would be there to add to desktop, but I only see add to favorites. What am I missing?

Does anyone know how to add a fully working (icon changes) Trashcan to the Desktop Folder View?I don't want the plasmoid/widget on the Desktop or on the Task Manager Panel.I can right click -> Create New -> Link to Location(URL), but the icon doesn't change.If the Desktop Folder View is a plasmoid, I guess I'm asking can a plasmoid (trash can) run inside another plasmoid (desktop view) %-)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the new eclipse indingo and extracted it to /home/user/opt/eclipse. I then made a link to the eclipse executable on my Desktop folder. It works well, if I click the link it opens eclipse. My problem is that it shows the rachet icon on the desktop. When I try to change the icon for only that link I end up changing all the icons for all executable to eclipse's icon.

I get E:Failed to mount the cdrom whether I put the disc in before or after I hit the Add-CD-Rom button. Synaptic gives same result. File Browser sees the CD-ROM, icon for it is displayed on my desktop.Opening the I can't get Blender to run by clicking the icon from the folder on my desktop.

My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago I set up an account with ZumoDrive to sync folders between my Fedora 14 desktop and my MS Vista laptop. I chose ZumoDrive instead of Dropbox or Ubuntu1 because it is 'integrated' with Yahoo which I use a lot.Everything works perfectly apart from one minor irritation. I cannot change the ZumoDrive folder icon on my KDE4 desktop. ZumoDrive is actually designed for use with Nautilus but it works fine with Dolphin, apart from the icon issue.
I can change the icon in Nautilus but when I try to do in in KDE/Dolphin I get:"Could not save properties. You do not have sufficient access to write to /home/david/ZumoDrive/.directory."I am the 'owner' of the drive and i have also tried as root but the result was the same.
I was playing with some gtk2 themes and , unaware of the consequences, i manually changed folder icons from folder properties for some of the folders (desktop, document, music, etc) in my home directory. The problem now is that these folder icons do not change when i change the icon theme. how can i bring it back to normal?

I would like to change the default blue oxygen icon, I went to system settings (now is configure desktop), file association, select inode and directory, click on the icon and change it to the one I like. Click ok, reboot but the blue folder icon is also there, how can I change this icon to one I like better?

These appear to be undeleteable and I want an undeleteable Firefox icon on my desktop as well. Skype: just installed 2.1.0.81-suse.i586rpm, starting it I get just the icon jumping on the desktop a bit and nothing else.

I tried xdg-desktop-icon command. It does install a shortcut. The shortcut works when double clicked. But the shortcut is shown as a standard icon, not the icon defined in the .desktop file. Do I miss something?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have KDE 4.6.5 and (up until now) I could see and access files and folders on my Desktop. My Desktop was set to display the contents of /home/john/Desktop.
I set this up from Right-click --> Folder View Settings --> View --> Layout --> Folder View. Then Location --> specify a folder == /home/john/Desktop.
But now when I do this I don't see the contents of the /home/john/Desktop folder. Instead I see a blank screen with a tab on the RHS labeled "New Activity".
How do I revert to viewing the traditional Desktop and its traditional contents?
Its difficult to explain, but when I installed OpenSuse 11.3 64 bit with KDE there was a small folder/box in the upper left corner of the screen. It contained shortcuts to SuSe Help, Open Office, Firefox, My Computer and a few more. I fidgeted with my desktop activity settings and it disappeared. How do I get it back?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently preformed a full update to my openSuSe 11.3 x64 + gnome install. Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
Could you please help me to get the "Multiple Desktop Windows Icons" back on my KDE desktop panel?I accidentally disabled it by right clicking on bottom left of the panel and now i am not able to restore it back through System Setting > Multiple Desktop
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 15 with the gnome desktop which looks like the android system for mobile phones, I installed wine which put the icons on my desktop but whenever I install a windows app it doesn't put an icon on my desktop for that particular application. How would I add an icon for those window apps so I can lunch them from the desktop, I don't know if you call that the desktop or just the program luncher either way how do I put an icon there so I can run those windows apps from there?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this nasty habit of refreshing desktop in a quick succession by right-clicking and selecting 'Refresh',on my XP system at office.(And,iam sure most of us do the same).With Ubuntu,if a right-click on desktop slowly and select 'align by...',it simulates the XP refresh action as explained above.But,if i perform the same action rapidly,it takes this first option from right-click context menu,which is 'Create Folder',and results in an empty folder being created on desktop.I tried double right-clicking and again it created an empty folder.Is there any workaround to handle this.I mean:Can the right-click context menu items be shuffled so that the 'Create Folder' option is moved from 1st place
View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning kubuntu 11.04x64 w/ xrender and folder-view plasmoid:
I cannot view "open with" for directories on the desktop (but it is visible w/in dolphin file structure) and whenever I try to rename folders on the desktop it crashes and restarts (but the rename is successful and no open windows crash).
This glitch is reproducible under OpenGL and Xrender; had to switch over to xrender after a recent system update that seems to slow my computer to a crawl after a little time and kept it cause it seems much smoother and crisper.
Is there any way to fix these issues or is there an alternative to the folder-view plasmoid to view a folder content on the desktop that is more stable?
I'm looking for a way to may the open windows show just an icon on the taskbar instead of the icon/text/rectangle that's default. Something similar to Windows 7.
