In the last couple of days when I start Kontact it gets frozen on FEEDS. I have tried to start all of the applications within Kontact separately and they all start fine except for Akregator i.e. Feeds. I have been looking for a debug howto or a log file location to try diagnose where/what the problem is. Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.5.

(Man - Plasmoids are okay, but the utter lack of documentation for them makes them far less useful than then could be.)
I created a link on my Desktop to point to the Netbeans IDE. However, it's giving me the default icon. I want to change the icon. I figure I can do this in the Desktop Configuation file. But I'm not sure what location the configuration file is looking for icons?SUSE 11.3KDE 4.4.4
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my home machine to 11.2 but apache is not starting automatically. I tried deleting apache2 in YaST and reinstalling it but it still doesn't start. It doesn't appear as an icon in YaST under network services either. There's a log directory for it but no logs. There's an /etc/apache2 directory.
I haven't tried starting it manually because (a) I don't want to destroy any evidence and (b) I want it to work automatically in future.
Is there something else I should be doing? Or how to diagnose?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been getting some system freezes when running blender on a new system (using about 1/2 my 8GB memory, AMD Phenom II x6 1090T+default AMD CPU cooler, ECS A880LM-M motherboard, Corsair 1333 DDR3, 2x4GB). PS voltages (measured off MOLEX plug) 12.05VDC and 5.2VDC. Tried BIOS resetting defaults. I'm trying to narrow down the problem with the MEMTEST v4.0. It gets through all tests fine until test #7 (block move) and starts throwing a ton of errors, and about 2/3 of the way through that test it says "unexpected interrupt, halting CPU0." All the listings say "28dbbd11" (this varies from run to run, except the 'Stack:' listing seems to count up from that number). I've tried unplugging one memory module and then swapping them as well as their positions. Same result always: block moves throw errors, followed by halting CPU0. To me this suggests the motherboard or the Phenom II. But I don't know how to test these. Can someone give the next step in diagnosis? I did find this link, but I'm not sure how it differentiates between my error and something specific to either the MOBO or CPU:

- in init 3 : zypper cc && zypper ref && zypper up does not work : after reboot using "shutdown -r now" the pc is frozen, with the green screen and white lizard (no access to keyboard, nor to grub options), ctrl+ alt+ f1 is ko for example.
- in init 3 and only with 3 repos (oss, non-oss, and update of 11.4) a zypper dup works but a bug with mozilla firefox 4 brading opensuse which is ko . we continued , can one package break down a zypper dup ? ( same ko result : after reboot usinf shutdown -r now the pc is frozen with the green screen and white lizard (no access to keyboard, nor to grub options) )

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to 11.3 from the terminal. There were a few hiccups, but it said to run "zypper verify," and it downloaded a few files and finished. When I rebooted, the graphics were fine, but the arrow in the middle of the screen is frozen. I can move the mouse till I get carpal tunnel, but the arrow ain't gion' nowhere. So how do I "unfreeze" my mouse? (Besides knitting it a sweater!) I'm hoping for a "ctrl/f2", and that aterminal can be opened that way, with a command to wake up the mouse dameon.

I had another card before (7900 card) and I have after having had a malfunction now a nvidea 430. Mainboard Gygabyte with AMD 790 Chipset, GB Ram. The opensuse system is fully patched and updated, newest kernel but the same error occurred with another graphic card and with the precedent kernel and with the precedent nvidia video driver.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up Conky to show a number of RSS feeds, and while I can get it to show the raw titles of items how would I trim these titles down to a given number of characters (say, 40) and add an ellipsis to the end if text has been cut off? The length of titles by default can vary wildly, so if only for the sake of organisation it'd be nice to have a maximum title length imposed.

I'm trying to use GParted from a liveusb to resize my ext4 Ubuntu partition, but it's been stuck on the "shrink file system...resize2fs" for two days straight. The progress bar is still going back and forth, and top shows a lot of CPU activity, but it won't move past this point. I know it's a bad idea to stop GParted while it's resizing, what I can do, maybe a way to check to see if it's actually busy resizing the partition?

I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?

I know there are commands like locate and find to find a file or directory, but I'm not sure whether these can (or even should) be utilized in what I'm trying to do. Basically, what is the simplest way to open a file with a program w/o specifying its exact location? (In cases where there isn't another file with the same name in the entire system, and cases where there are multiple).
Let's say we have machine 1 and machine 2. Machine 2, which is linux based, is receiving a file (let's say cat.jpg sent via SCP from machine 1 (doesn't really matter which operating system..) How can I know in machine 2, that the file has finished uploading from machine 1 ? Please note that by "knowing" I mean by running a command (via a cron that runs every minute), and not by an event driven way ("make the scp issue a command when it is finished uploading"). Another limitation I have is that I can't change anything in machine 1 or in the way it SCP files.
If it really matters: the files being transferred are video file, MP4 extension. machine 2 is ubuntu 10.10
