OpenSUSE :: Log File Location To Try Diagnose Frozen On Feeds

Apr 13, 2010

In the last couple of days when I start Kontact it gets frozen on FEEDS. I have tried to start all of the applications within Kontact separately and they all start fine except for Akregator i.e. Feeds. I have been looking for a debug howto or a log file location to try diagnose where/what the problem is. Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.5.

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Find Where The RSSNow Plasmoid Stores The Feeds?

Oct 12, 2010

After digging around in vain in my local .kde4 I am unable to find where the RSSNow plasmoid stores the feeds. It apparently wants to keep them secret forever.

(Man - Plasmoids are okay, but the utter lack of documentation for them makes them far less useful than then could be.)

OpenSUSE Network :: Aapache Doesn't Start On 11.2 / How To Diagnose It

Sep 19, 2010

I just upgraded my home machine to 11.2 but apache is not starting automatically. I tried deleting apache2 in YaST and reinstalling it but it still doesn't start. It doesn't appear as an icon in YaST under network services either. There's a log directory for it but no logs. There's an /etc/apache2 directory.

I haven't tried starting it manually because (a) I don't want to destroy any evidence and (b) I want it to work automatically in future.

Is there something else I should be doing? Or how to diagnose?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: System Freeze - Diagnose Hardware - Memtest

Jun 26, 2011

I've been getting some system freezes when running blender on a new system (using about 1/2 my 8GB memory, AMD Phenom II x6 1090T+default AMD CPU cooler, ECS A880LM-M motherboard, Corsair 1333 DDR3, 2x4GB). PS voltages (measured off MOLEX plug) 12.05VDC and 5.2VDC. Tried BIOS resetting defaults. I'm trying to narrow down the problem with the MEMTEST v4.0. It gets through all tests fine until test #7 (block move) and starts throwing a ton of errors, and about 2/3 of the way through that test it says "unexpected interrupt, halting CPU0." All the listings say "28dbbd11" (this varies from run to run, except the 'Stack:' listing seems to count up from that number). I've tried unplugging one memory module and then swapping them as well as their positions. Same result always: block moves throw errors, followed by halting CPU0. To me this suggests the motherboard or the Phenom II. But I don't know how to test these. Can someone give the next step in diagnosis? I did find this link, but I'm not sure how it differentiates between my error and something specific to either the MOBO or CPU:

Jul 17, 2011

- in init 3 and only with 3 repos (oss, non-oss, and update of 11.4) a zypper dup works but a bug with mozilla firefox 4 brading opensuse which is ko . we continued , can one package break down a zypper dup ? ( same ko result : after reboot usinf shutdown -r now the pc is frozen with the green screen and white lizard (no access to keyboard, nor to grub options) )

OpenSUSE Install :: Mouse Frozen After Upgrade 11.3

Jul 15, 2010

Just upgraded to 11.3 from the terminal. There were a few hiccups, but it said to run "zypper verify," and it downloaded a few files and finished. When I rebooted, the graphics were fine, but the arrow in the middle of the screen is frozen. I can move the mouse till I get carpal tunnel, but the arrow ain't gion' nowhere. So how do I "unfreeze" my mouse? (Besides knitting it a sweater!) I'm hoping for a "ctrl/f2", and that aterminal can be opened that way, with a command to wake up the mouse dameon.

Slackware :: RSS Feeds Now Accessible Via NNTP?

Oct 13, 2010

For a while now GMANE has put up GWENE which is an RSS/Atom feed to Usenet portal. I have just created groups for all Slackware ChangeLog Feeds available at [URL]

Slackware Security: gwene.com.slackware.security
Slackware 32bit Current ChangeLog: gwene.com.slackware.current.changelog
Slackware 64bit Current ChangeLog: gwene.com.slackware64.current.changelog
SlackBuilds.org ChangeLog: gwene.org.slackbuilds.changelog
AlienBOB's SlackBuilds Changelog: gwene.com.slackware.alien.slackbuilds.changelog
AlienBOB's Blog Entries: gwene.com.slackware.alien.blog

Sadly the Slackware stable feed is busted, so there is no point in adding it. Heres an example how to setup your news reader:[URL] You just need to use news.gwene.org instead of news.gmane.org as server. Note that the gwene server includes gmane so you dont need to have both. I am also considering adding AlienBOBs feed [DONE]

Ubuntu :: Set Up Conky To Show A Number Of RSS Feeds?

Apr 6, 2010

I'm trying to set up Conky to show a number of RSS feeds, and while I can get it to show the raw titles of items how would I trim these titles down to a given number of characters (say, 40) and add an ellipsis to the end if text has been cut off? The length of titles by default can vary wildly, so if only for the sake of organisation it'd be nice to have a maximum title length imposed.

I found this thread that does something kind of similar for Transmission torrents, but I have no idea how I'd adapt it for RSS feeds. As it stands, the code (well, a sample at least) is simply:

Code:
SLASHDOT$hr
${rss http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot/to 5 item_title 0}
${rss http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot/to 5 item_title 1}
${rss http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot/to 5 item_title 2}
${rss http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot/to 5 item_title 3}
${rss http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot/to 5 item_title 4}

I know it's a bad idea to stop GParted while it's resizing, what I can do, maybe a way to check to see if it's actually busy resizing the partition?

Ubuntu :: OpenMotif : Create Network Location Link As Local Filesystem Location?

Apr 26, 2011

I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?

General :: Open File Without Specifying Exact Location

Jun 15, 2010

I have a file in some obscure directory that I want to open and edit. I don't want to do something like this...

vim ~/foo/bar/blah/doh/ugh.txt

I'd rather be able to say find this file and open it. I know there are commands like locate and find to find a file or directory, but I'm not sure whether these can (or even should) be utilized in what I'm trying to do. Basically, what is the simplest way to open a file with a program w/o specifying its exact location? (In cases where there isn't another file with the same name in the entire system, and cases where there are multiple).

Another limitation I have is that I can't change anything in machine 1 or in the way it SCP files.
