My sound card fuctions fine when playing music and videos butwont play sound from web sites.Sound card is snd-hda-intel which Yast2 reports it as but it is integrated on this amd 785 chipset motherboard which is a Gigabyte GA-MA785gm-us2h motherboard.
Conky can be used to display a variety of information on the users desktop. I wanted to use Conky instead to display the current status of security as reported by:
SANS Internet Storm Center IBM Internet Security Systems Symantec Threatcon McAfee Threat Center
I therefore created 4 small scripts which download the current status from these sites, and set the colour of those status's depending on the current value. The conky configuration allows for a semi-transparent background - though this is optional.Attached is an example image showing the 4 different colours. Also attached is an archive with the 4.sh files, .conkyrc and draw_bg.lua (from here http:[url].....
For a while now GMANE has put up GWENE which is an RSS/Atom feed to Usenet portal. I have just created groups for all Slackware ChangeLog Feeds available at [URL]
Slackware Security: gwene.com.slackware.security Slackware 32bit Current ChangeLog: gwene.com.slackware.current.changelog Slackware 64bit Current ChangeLog: gwene.com.slackware64.current.changelog SlackBuilds.org ChangeLog: gwene.org.slackbuilds.changelog AlienBOB's SlackBuilds Changelog: gwene.com.slackware.alien.slackbuilds.changelog AlienBOB's Blog Entries: gwene.com.slackware.alien.blog
Sadly the Slackware stable feed is busted, so there is no point in adding it. Heres an example how to setup your news reader:[URL] You just need to use news.gwene.org instead of news.gmane.org as server. Note that the gwene server includes gmane so you dont need to have both. I am also considering adding AlienBOBs feed [DONE]
I have a virtual server which acts mainly as mail server. I wonder whether I could set up a mirror for certain files like Linux ISO images, conference talk recordings and other stuff. How could I seed automatically all torrents from XML feeds plus torrents added by hand? Further conditions: The data files should be accessable via HTTP/FTP, too total traffic and bandwidth uage need to be restricted, plus bonus points for restrictions per feed or file.
I'm trying to set up Conky to show a number of RSS feeds, and while I can get it to show the raw titles of items how would I trim these titles down to a given number of characters (say, 40) and add an ellipsis to the end if text has been cut off? The length of titles by default can vary wildly, so if only for the sake of organisation it'd be nice to have a maximum title length imposed.
I found this thread that does something kind of similar for Transmission torrents, but I have no idea how I'd adapt it for RSS feeds. As it stands, the code (well, a sample at least) is simply:
How to make Chromium to pass RSS feeds to Liferea? There are several browser extensions for RSS feeds but it seems they only work with web-based readers.
In the last couple of days when I start Kontact it gets frozen on FEEDS. I have tried to start all of the applications within Kontact separately and they all start fine except for Akregator i.e. Feeds. I have been looking for a debug howto or a log file location to try diagnose where/what the problem is. Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.5.
Has anyone come across a means to output rss feeds to audio? A Google search led me on a "wild goose chase". I was looking for a newsbeuter or snownews plugin of sorts. Either realtime output to speakers or piped to speex/ogg/mp3 I *really* need to learn how to code, so I can do these things myself
After digging around in vain in my local .kde4 I am unable to find where the RSSNow plasmoid stores the feeds. It apparently wants to keep them secret forever.
(Man - Plasmoids are okay, but the utter lack of documentation for them makes them far less useful than then could be.)
This is probably the wrong forum to star and I am clutching at straws here hoping someone can point me in the right direction.I own a cheap IP Network WebCam, bought from eBay (like this one:it doesn't list it's manufacturer anywhere and just says it is the F-Series IP Camera. It works well, both on Firefox and IE. However, you can only get a live video stream with audio out of it using IE and an ActiveX plugin or the supplied Windoze only IP Camera Super-Client software which doesn't like Wine.
As I am mainly an Ubuntu user, I was wondering if anyone knew of any tricks to get hold of the two streams, maybe using VLC to view?I've tried IE4Linux and Play-On-Linux to install IE in ubuntu, but the ActiveX unsurprisingly doesn't work. I was hoping that:someone can point me to a forum that might have someone who knowssomeone can tell me how to analyse the network traffic that IE is getting to get an IP address for the video and audio feedssomeone has some experience with these cameras and knows the answer to all my questions I've tried using wireshark, but the output makes no sense to me - I've figured out various addresses to the video stream:[URL]But I can't get the audio stream. I was hoping to use it as a baby monitor, it has excellent night viewing capabilities with its IR LEDS, but having no audio in Ubuntu with it is a pain.
I'm about to make the switch to Ubuntu but what's holding me back is Liferea. From what I've read it's by far the best RSS reader but I'm having three major problems with it...
1) I am trying to get Liferea to download podcasts that I subscribe to. I've set my download folder in preferences, and I've set the feed to automatically download enclosures in the advanced tab of the feed folder. Nothing is downloading, why?
2) I want the 'Unread' search folder to display all feeds from all subscriptions (read or unread) apart from those in the Podcast folder I've created. How do I do this?
3) I read an article in a feed and delete the article. When the feed updates, the article returns - how do I keep it deleted?
when i play a movie, i hear audio. when i'm listening to my music, it works just fine. but no matter what browser i use, i don't have any audio. no videos or anything like that.i am using 10.04 extended version. if there is anything else that you need, feel free to ask (this is my first post)
Just started using openSuse 11.2 and I'm really liking the desktop. I got my head around the software repo's and got all my drivers working but I just can't work out how to get sound on firefox. Videos play fine (that was my problem with Mandriva) and the sound works everywhere else (Amorak, desktop sounds, etc) but firefox is silent (not just flash stuff). I've installed flash, java, mplayer and Gstreamer (but I had to change the vendor options). Am I missing some magic plugin or am i being incredibly stupid and there is some kind of "sound on" button I've missed? I've been searching for an answer all afternoon with no success. Im on a 32bit machine with an AC'97 sound controller (Driver: Intel ICH, modules: modprobe snd_intel8X0, Bus:

Few days ago i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my PC everything is fine but no sound at all, I am going to ..... and playing a video, a video started playing but no sound, i have just installed ubuntu restriced extras bun not working.. i really need sound..
I want sound and internet access thru Linux using VMware. It will give me confidence to add it as a dual boot to my hard drive. I have sound and internet access thru Windows 7. I have sound thru the sound card test but I'm not able to hear cd's. I see the time elapsing thru the cd player but no sound.
I'm having problems with the network configuration, I get the message, "cannot activate the device etho:1 no link found". I have a DSL connect thru windows. Shouldn't I be able to get the internet thru VMware? If so how?
I was minding my own business watching loombo and just like that the sound cut out. so I was like okay I will watch it on mega video and no such look no sound there too so I checked my ..... and that wont even load videos.so !I'm running the latest version of ubuntu on my dell insperon laptop if this helps
All of a sudden I no longer have any sound on anything streaming over the Internet. Nothing wrong with the sound system because I can still play music. Just Internet sound.
So far i have tried ubuntu. seems great however i've had trouble with internet connection and soundcard problems. (slow internet connection and poor sound quality. I was thinking of trying kubuntu. Do you think i'll have the same problems?
I have a core i7 machine on which I have dual booted Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14. I am facing a weird problem on both the Linux distributions. Currently, I am facing three major problems which are causing me to use my laptop instead of this machine. Most of the times the sound gets distorted ( like the tempo is very slow and some cracks), but some other times it just works fine. ( I experienced this on both Ubuntu and Fedora)Internet at times is very fast and works great, but suddenly it slows down and takes a whole lot time to load. sometimes it just never gets fast. The low resolution flash videos, gets this very weird high pitch sound
Also, I noticed ( I don't think there is a relation between the two or is there?) that whenever the internet is slow, the sound is also distorted and when internet is fast sound works great. The intermittent nature of the problem is making it difficult to debug.
I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing, zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
I bought a Diamond Xtreme Sound 5.1 sound card because I had read online that this card was a good choice with Linux and came with universal driver software. I installed the hardware correctly (as it works with WinXP) but I'm not able to get it working with Ubuntu.
Installed the latest stable of version of debian off of the website (amd64) (DVD version) When I installed no network card was detected so I just proceeded to install without the internet access. When it booted up I didn't have sound either.So... is there any way to get my internet and sound to work?I have an ASUS P5G41T Motherboard with Atheros Eithernet and Realtek HD sound.
I've got an urgent problem! I had some viruses as my program told me and in the end I had to restart my eee pc!Problem is now after it starts and you click on the log me in icon for the netbook it makes the nice hello sound, takes some time and then does the shut down (goodbye) sound. So basically the netbook booted already right? But I cant log myself in! What can I do?
I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.
