I created a link on my Desktop to point to the Netbeans IDE. However, it's giving me the default icon. I want to change the icon. I figure I can do this in the Desktop Configuation file. But I'm not sure what location the configuration file is looking for icons?SUSE 11.3KDE 4.4.4

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days my file associations have gone for a toss. For example : an icon on the desktop to open eclipse says eclipse.desktop and doesn't show the eclipse image when i right click a .bz2 file it doesn't show the extract here option for text files, a small bit of the text is showing outside the icon where it usually shows inside The same problems are present in nautilus as well as the desktop.
Need some quick help to reset these to the default.
Have attached a screenshot to show the issue.
have only been using it for a couple weeks now. i installed Picasa from google just now and since then my desktop icons have disapeared and if i open the file manager it closes within 5 seconds. i have tried rebooting the computer and have now completly removed picasa and the problem is still there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 12 yesterday. After installation, I added some packages like gstreamer*, amarok, vlc etc.
Once I rebooted, all desktop icons became invisible and I'm unable to open file browser and browse files/folders.
When I log out, I get this message saying "File Manager not responding!"
I initially thought I messed up with settings, and created a new account. Still no use.
BTW, I use Gnome Desktop Environment.
I went further and installed Fedora 12 again. And did the same package installation. And after reboot, no desktop items is visible and can't browse files/folders using file browser (nautilus).

View 2 Replies View Relatedi've 6 desktops, with a lot of icons organiced over themnyone in the place i like.Sometimes (once a mont or so) when i boot mi computer, all the icons on all the desktops apears reorganiced: All on the left side of the screen and all equally spaced. I don't want it to happen anymore because each time it happens i lose half an hour reorganicing them.I've tried to mark in the desktop the option "icons fixed", and I've tried to update KDE to the repo KDE instead of the one in the OSS repo, but nothing works, lately instead of disorganicing the icons once a week it happens each 3 to 7 days.

I have been having some problems with it, when I start my laptop sometimes it shows my desktop background but never seems to load all the icons and everything it sits there with the mouse pointer and a the desktop background screen without icons. The second problem is that when I suspend it I can never get the screen to work again not even by moving the mouse or typing anything in.

Gnome desktop on Opensuse 11.2. It's more annoying that a big issue.
I have lost some icons from my desktop, they are, firefox, yast, thunderbird, emacs, the space and the names are still there, and when I hover the mouse over the space, it is highlighted as it should be. The application opens and runs as normal when I click on the space where the icon should be. The icons are also missing from the favorites bar on the left side and also from the panel top left when the app is running.I have tried, rebuilding the icon cache in 'usr/share/icons/hicolor', and also all othercon caches for that matter, and no difference. I tried uninstalling and installing the app, no differenence. I tried changing themes and icons from Tweak Tool, no difference. As far as I can see the icons are there in the hicolor directory

All of these problems happened just recently. I thought they were coming from unresolved packaging but after upgrading and distro-upgrading from packman only, and gnome, the problems still persist. If it helps, here's my zypper lr -d

I have recently played around with Mac4lin a program to change the interface to one that resembles a Mac computer. I did not like the settings then decided to uninstall the program. It reverted to a really ugly looking gnome desktop rather than my previous settings. One thing that I don't like is that I have a foot icon on my gnome traditional menu button on the panel rather than the green ball type icon I used to have. I know it's not the end of the world that my icons do not look like it previously did, everything else is running smoothly, though I'm just more annoyed than anything else.

But I also get desktop icons for the shared drives, which I don't like since I prefer a bare desktop. Sometimes I have deleted desktop icons from /usr/share/dist/... but these are not there.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist
