View 2 RepliesJust as the title says, the electricsheep screensaver (v2.7) is not working - not on gnome-screensaver at least. When running electricsheep from a terminal it does work, also the exact same version works fine as a screensaver under Lubuntu.I've tried some solutions provided in other threads on this forum, such as installing the PPA version and letting it run overnight, without success.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed electric sheep on my 10.10 installation. I am having trouble installing the packs on it. The screensaver is in the /usr/share directory, which is owned by root. From what I heard, this account is disabled by default.how can I enable it so that I can have access to the /share/ directory so I can copy all the AVIs in there?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIm comming from ubuntu/mint and one of the things I got used too was doing something like "sudo nautilus" or "sudo gedit" and similar things. In Suse 11.3 I always get errors like the following
(gedit:6115): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
kate: cannot connect to X server
Could not parse arguments: Cannot open display:
or similar variations of these. What can I so to prevent this from happening? even if I do "su" and try from there it doesnt always work.I like Suse as it feels more professional then ubuntu, but I am trying to make it as user friendly.
1. Issue booting from grub The Xen kernel option in grub starts then the screen goes black and after a few seconds white starts to creep in from the edges.
2. When I run Virtual Machine Manager I get this message.
A hupervisor is not running. For Kvm, load the kvm kernel modules. If you want to run xen, reboot and load the xen kernel. The last options causes the error mentioned under issue 1.
I am having a hard time getting repositories to install and even some applications. Do I use yast to install RPM's aned what about if the file is a zipped up tar file? If you are familiar with VMware, can we play cd's, rip them and burn and so on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to run ktorrent from a command-line, or more to the point:from a cron job I like ktorrent, it does it job well. But it bugs me that I have to log inand remain so, just to run an app who's interface is not even required mostof the time.Unfortunately, my provider imposes a montly volume. Nice big volume, but notimposible to run it dry. On the other hand, they count nightly traffic atonly half to actual volume. So I'd like to be able to start ktorrent at a certain time after midnight, and interrupt it at dawn. Or maybe just shutdown the machine at dawn.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run php as cgi script with apache and opensuse 11.3. I disabled the mod_php and installed mod_fcgid, and php-fastcgi, as per the instructions here. I have been trying to achieve this, but, somehow it is now working. I can see the page if i have an index.html, but if i have index.php, it downloads it as a file. I really tried to set this thing up for more than 12 hrs now. I am soo frustated.
my /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/shekhar.conf
my /srv/www/wrapper/shekhar/php5
my /etc/apache2/conf.d/mod_fcgid.conf (I uncommented the lines inside the <FilesMatch > Tag., it gave me same result, even after uncommenting the tag.)
my /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
I had some problems which were were already as bugs on which kde4.4.4 crashed and since than I lost this functionality. I cannot say if I have any apps running if they were all minimized as they don't appear on the taskbar. I can switch through them via Alt-Tab.

Soes anyone could tell me where to start to look for the reason!Note that the last time the problem occues (i.e. 10min ago) was on this site (no other tab opened). My configurationSONY Vaio VPCF11S1E: Core i7 720QM, 6GB RamOpenSUSE 11.3 64bits. View 7 Replies View RelatedAll my applications seem to be running at nice of 19 except bash and daemons which are running at 0. My understanding is that the default nice value is either 0 or 10 (forget which) but not 19.Ran search in /etc/sysconfig/ editor and no results for "nice" and looked at the bashrc files and again no lines contain "nice".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was really looking forward to Firefox 4, especially to trying the hardware acceleration. I'm using nvidia proprietary driver which is the combination which *should* work, according what I've read. However it doesn't. Firefox doesn't even recognize my graphics card, when I type about:support, there is no information about my graphics. So I wonder, is there anyone who got this working?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter a series of unrelated problems with my mouse (that had nothing to do with suse) I opened a process but I don't know what is it. It looks like a series of micro-post-its in the bottom of my desktop:Also, I checked the option to start a new session every time I start KDE, but this keeps appearing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever vlc is running and I try to log out, a KDE window opens and tells me "logout cancelled by vlc". I have to repeat the process. How do I disable this unwanted "feature"? What if Thunderbird, Firefox, LibreOffice, Gwenview etc. all decided I shouldn't log out? Would I have to log out six or seven times? Doesn't sound logical to me.

There are some apps for win that run on wine just with an ordinary install procedure. There are others that will never work at all. But there are also some that wine users claim to have made run by changing some specific configuration of wine, using some trick or even creating scripts on playonlinux.
So if I try to run an app on wine and it doesn't and I don't find any user documentation about some specific trick or config for that app what adjustments can I do to try to make it run? I mean, it's tiring and perhaps foolish to spend hours playing with every possible config in wine frontend without knowing what I'm doing. So what can I do to find out what libraries, configs, tricks or scripts are needeed to make an app run under wine if it didn't at the first try?
Having installed Firebird-Superserver and it's dependencies via YAST2 software management I don't see fbserver in xinetd. I also installed Flamerobin, which is unable to connect, and Firebird-doc but unfortunately I don't know where to look for the installed documentation. If I log in as root I can run the command;
Code:
gsec -user sysdba -password <password>
but from there I can't communicate with localhost as I get the following error
Code:
Unable to complete network request to host "localhost".Error reading data from the connection.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently going through, what is essentially a Linux+ course. I don't like any of the exercises in the book, as it's outdated and doesn't really thoroughly teach how to implement a lot of stuff. Is there a program or suite of programs out there where I can create a few VM's with their own IP's, users, files systems, etc. so I can setup up Samba, NFS, NIS, etc.?
