1. Issue booting from grub The Xen kernel option in grub starts then the screen goes black and after a few seconds white starts to creep in from the edges.
2. When I run Virtual Machine Manager I get this message.
A hupervisor is not running. For Kvm, load the kvm kernel modules. If you want to run xen, reboot and load the xen kernel. The last options causes the error mentioned under issue 1.

When I try to connect with (`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A p y') in the config here is the output I get in maillog (none of the other logs seem to show anything and I dont see any errors/warnings when I restart sendmail):

If I change the option so its just (`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A y') then it does work and this is the log output I get:

My client is configured to use SSL and when I go through the setup, it does appear to authenticate against the smtp server and it validates. The fail comes in when trying to actually send mail.
Does anyone have insight into why adding the 'p' to confAUTH_OPTIONS is causing this behavior?
Is there a way to use exec, but if exec fails to go on with the script?

I have 2 pc with Asus AMD boards (M4A87TD Evo and M4A88TD-M Evo) running OpenSuse 11.3.on both the front panel audio headset + mic do not work.on one PC I have an other OS also installed, so I know that on this machine the hardware is working.is there a chance to get the frontpanel audio connectors running with the actual openSuse or do I have to wait for the next version with a newer kernel/alsa version?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am unable to load the GUI in opensuse 11.1. When booting I get the normal opensuse loading screen but about half way through the screen goes black. If I hit alt-f1 I can see the start up info. The problems looks like when it tries to load gdm. It shows a couple of Warnings saying "GdmDisplay: display lasted .8135.. seconds. The findal warning says "GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors." I did do a couple of updates yesterday before shutting down but am not sure what they were.

I followed the instructions on this page to set up the server on my linux machine, and I'm connecting to it with the Nomachine client for Windows, running on Windows XP x64. It refuses to complete the connection, and the console log from the NX client is as follows code...
I've searched this forum and many web pages on google, but I haven't found anyone with this exact problem. the fact that it can't stat those files suggests to me that it might be a permissions thing, but I wouldn't expect non-root users to EVER have permission to files in any subdirectory of /var, so I sincerely doubt that they would release a program that requires read/write access to such files, and therefore, I am pretty certain it's a configuration issue, although I'm not experienced enough with the NX server to know where to start looking for the failure. Previous attempts with FreeNX and opensuse 10.3 (I am testing 11.2 for a possible upgrade of all of our linux systems here at my office) yielded totally successful results. the fact that there is no NX server included in the DVD distribution of 11.2 seems a little strange to me, as it was included with 10.3, but this is of little significance compared to my real issues.
Yesterday I performed a zypper up on my system. Stock KDE4 that comes with 11.3. After I restarted the computer, it would get about 4/5 the way through the progress bar that displays when first starting then lock up hard. Starting in safe mode works. With a little experimenting I found that typing x11failsafe to the boot up options line let me start without a problem also.
The sleazy workaround would be to add that parameter to the grub menu, but I'd rather have a real fix. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a fix for it?

I am still in the process of rebuilding my laptop with openSUSE 11.2 x86-64. I downloaded a large application tar.gz extracted 500M of app to disk copied it to cd with K3B and verified the cd. I then deleted the tar.gz. I browsed the CD with dolphin (/media/expc/.... I then start a terminal su to root cd /media/expc and get an error stating the the file or directory does not exist or is inaccessible. If I go back to my own account I still can't cd to /media/expc. From /media ls -l lists expc as being readable by everyone and in any case I can browse it with dolphin.
The CD is fine. I mounted it by hand on /mnt as root and then installed the application without problem. Going back to the original way of loading and mounting the cd reproduces the problem
I recently installed OpenSuse 11.1 (i586) on a new laptop (HP 6710b) all has been going well, until I tried to burn audio CDs with K3B using .wav files in a directory in the format 01.wav 02.wav 03.wav etc. To burn the audio CDs I have been running K3B as root to avoid any potential permission issues. I now have a stack of cd 'coasters' with only one lucky success using the command line, which when the exact command was repeated failed again. I have successfully burnt 2 data DVDs using K3B, one as root the second as user, both without problem - so maybe it is not a permissions problem?
I am using K3b 1.0.5 in KDE 4.1.3. (it runs under KDE3) I have not been able to run k3bsetup � it is not part of the installation. However permissions appear correctly set-up � I also added the appropriate users to the group �disk�.

K3b uses the executables in /usr/bin/x11/ which are just the same. I have not put suid on anything. I have a problem with DBGL (DosBox Graphic Launcher), after installation through Yast I got the icons alright but when clicked they just bounce for some time and then nothing, the program DBGL doesn't start, while DosBox alone works o.k.
Running DBGL in Terminal gives me this:

launching vBox lately pops-up this; but if I allow it to go ahead, I get this.. : the window has no end (!), no scroll bars nor any further info. If I first uninstall in Yast, will I lose all of my machines? Up until now these periodic updates have been a breeze, only sometimes needing a vbox setup afterwards to tweak the kernel

I am running MozillaThunderbird-3.0.9-0.3.1 under gnome-desktop-2.24.1-2.18.1 on OpenSUSE 11.1. Up to about a month or so ago, I was using the latest version of Thunderbird 2.x, but an OpenSUSE update updated it to Thuderbird 3.0.9 and I've had troubles ever since.
Just to make sure that it wasn't a problem related to any plugins, I disabled all the plugins I was using, but the problem still persists.The problem I have is as soon as I reply to any message in any of my Inboxes, I can no longer view any other message--read or unread, in either the main view window or in a separate tab. This behavior is repeatable with about 90% consistency.
My speculation is that the is some strange interaction going on between Thunderbird and something else. It's hard for me to believe that this is the way that Thunderbird behaves on all operating systems as I'm sure the Thunderbird developers would have fixed it and most likely if would have been picked up by the OpenSUSE team. But hey, I could be wrong.
I'm not even sure if this is the right place to report this. But it's very annoying as the only way I've found to correct it is to restart Thunderbird.Anyhow, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or heard about behavior like this. If so, what did you do to resolve it?
P.S.- I tried to search this site but found too many hits for "thunderbird 3" to be useful.
I've installed KDE 4.6.2 (from Index of /repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.4) and I've noticed that Strigi fails to work. In my System Settings I have?message that Strigi haven't started, although it should (the checkbox to strart Srtigi is active). The process virtuoso-t is constantly suspended in the system.
OS: OpenSuse 11.4 64 bit. Some bugs are resolved in KDE 4.6.2 compared to 4.6.00, so I would like to stay with KDE 4.6.2.
Have just installed 11.4 Linux 2.6.37.6-0.5-default. I find that saving data does not enter the folder. Attempting to file once more, the folder selected shows that data is already there and gives the option to overwrite. Closing the folder and reopening again, data has still not transferred. Only after rebooting does the data appear. I am wondering whether I have insufficient RAM (512K)

I installed OpenSUSE 11.3 last night and everything works fine though drivers were not installed and desktop effects can not be enabled. However, after connected to the internet and got updated this morning, the system just can not start again, it ran into black screen half way of startup then lost response. What I really want to see is I can block up the ATI graphics and e system running properly with the intel one. However, after searching this forum, I found there may not be proper driver for some intel graphics.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install, replacing 11.3 with 11.4 (BTW, why couldn't 11.4 recognize a ext4 partition??). When I boot, the cursor is a garbage block in the center of the screen. When I move, the cursor disappears. The display never progresses past the splash and no progress bar appears. When I boot in safemode, it works, but the display is slow and jerky. This is such a show stopper for me that I had to revert to 11.3 which does not like my touchpad.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been with opensuse from 10, and I currently run 11.3 on my desktops. My attempt to install 11.4 failed. It produced a display with many tiny rectangles instead of a gui. I guess there is a discrepancy between the times produced by the x and the y display drivers and the times expected by the display hardware. I can't blame it on the display hardware, though, because I switched to another monitor and got the same error. I did the usual tests from the install screen, and there are no errors. If I run the program in fail-safe mode, the display is text only. In this case there is no x-server. I have not observed that in 11.3 fail-safe.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI wanted to update my 11.3 installation to 11.4. Everything went fine, but at the point the installation switched to the installed new system, it went completely wrong. This is the first time after more than 15 years of using (open)SUSE I have got trouble to install a new version.
What went wrong: the display shows some hundred miniature thumbnails of the screen to continue the installation. Only possibility was to switch to a console session. I did change the settings in initrd to NO_KMS_IN_INITRD to 'yes', then rebooted the PC. But the display is still unusuable. Then I tried the failsafe option, without any success. So I had to re-install the previous version, where I don't have this troubles. Fortunately, I made a backup of most of my settings, but it takes me still a lot of time to re-install everything, as I have to re-install a lot of libraries and recompile some programs.
I did a try with a live-DVD of Knoppix, the display is also scrambled but not so bad as with 11.4. Then I tried a live-CD of Kubuntu, and there anything worked PERFECT!
If openSUSE cann't give me a valuable explanation and solution, I have to consider to switch to Kubuntu after more than 15 years of openSUSE.
Some details of my hardware:
- graphics card: nVidia GeForce 6150SE
- driver: nouveau
- display: Acer HD 24inch screen with a resolution of 1900x1080
Remark: with the installation of 11.4 on other PC's of friends and family, I didn't have troubles, but they don't have such a high-resolution display.
I've just upgraded to 11.3 (64 bit) and the nfs client does not quite work. I have 3 mounts I try to make, and 2 out of 3 work. The third seems to mount, but shows an empty directory. There are no errors in /var/log/messages on the 11.3 client or the server. The only difference between the 3 mounts that I can see is that the failing mount is of an xfs system. The other two happen to be ext3. Is that visible to the nfs client? Or is that a red herring? I can still mount all 3 just fine from my other opensuse 11.2 systems.
For info, the server is running opensuse 10.3...

About 40% of the time when I try to open Dolphin (clicking the widget on the taskbar) I get launch feedback but it never opens Dolphin. If I then click it again, this time it will open. Where can I look in some log to find what error might be happening?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to openSUSE (coming from Fedora then Kubuntu then Linux Mint) and I must say I am very impressed. Unfortunately I am also a C# developer and I need Mono (and more specifically MonoDevelop) to function correctly. I installed MonoDevelop from YaST and started with the simple "Hello World" command line project that is included by default. I then added Tarball packaging to the solution and attempted to build the package. It spit out the following error:
"Package creation failed. Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
I then tried double clicking on the Tarball package in the solution and it gave me an Unhandled Exception error dialog with a stack trace. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? It's as if I am missing a required package or something. I have tried to install automake but that didn't change anything.
