I usually log out from my account, let the pc working and close the monitor. When after some hours I try to open again the monitor I get the msg "No Signal" I move the mouse I press some buttons at the keyboard but nothing.. I have to reboot again to see the monitor working.. What can I do?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 monitors. I'm using the Nvidia driver in Twinview Mode on the right side. I can move the cursor from one monitor to the next and I can drag applications between the two. I have multiple activities. And the second monitor selected one of those other activities as the background. I'm not sure how this was chosen, or if I have a choice. Anyone know? Do activities affect what is displayed in a dual monitor setting? As I toggle through the activities, the two monitors change, but never to the same one.
When I open an application, it's a guessing game which monitor it appears on. Can I control that?
I know if one clicks the top left corner of an application they can send it "To Desktop" ("all", "Desktop 1", "Desktop 2", etc). If I could assign "Desktop 1" to monitor 1, and "Desktop 2" to monitor 2, I could then use the "To Desktop".
At a minimum, how does one control where applications open in a dual monitor setting?
I have 3 boxes running opensuse-11.4 64 bit - Phenom-I 2.6 GHz, Intel Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz and Intel SU7300 dual core 1.3 GHz (the last one is a laptop). When I run a KVM virtual machine and load it quite a lot all host OS freeze. Interestingly, the laptop works the longest (hours), while the fastest system with Q9400 freezes in max. 10 minutes. After a hard reboot there is nothing in /var/log/messages This bug is 100% reproducible. The guest OS is either RHEL or openSUSE. Is it a 11.4 bug or I am missing something? Have not tried the same hardware with RHEL-6.

I did try to run sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup it failed I than ran vim /var/log/vbox-install.log and this information was in the file /usr/share/virtualbox/src/vboxhost/vboxdrv/build_in_tmp: line 55: make: command not found

In Win7, I've removed XP Mode from Programs and Features, and reinstalled. No change.

This is a triple-monitor setup with two video cards, where the mouse pointer gets "stuck" if it tries to cross from one video card to the next one. It worked correctly in openSUSE 11.2 and doesn't work in openSUSE 11.3 with the same xorg.conf. This is a 64-bit openSUSE 11.3 with xorg 7.5-11.3 (the openSUSE prepackaged version). I've already tried NVidia drivers 256.53-16.1 (the openSUSE NVidia repository version) and 260.19.12 (the latest off of the NVidia website).
This is the same xorg.conf that I used successfully in openSUSE 11.2. I tried a new automatically generated xorg.conf using nvidia-settings and it had the same problem. This forum won't let me upload the relevant files, but here: [URL] is a tar-ball with my xorg.conf, Xorg.*.log, /var/log/messages, and the NVidia debugging output.
just setup suse 11.3 , put on the Nvidia 19.29-22.1 drivers via yast , no kms is set in inetd , nomodeset on grub boot line etc... Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

It should give me daily internet usage stats something/vaguely like this:-I have tried ntop and darkstat ,but they were too complicated and cannot be launched from notification area like this..Also tried using KtrafficAnlyzer by installing KDE core, i am not very amused by the idea of having to install a massive run time file package for a simple tool.

Autoconfig started and TV display vanished, install finished and went into display settings to check problem and for some reason it is saying both displays are on my 16" Dell. Sometimes USB devices (like my keyboard and mouse) stop working while I'm away from my opensuse 11.2 PC. A reboot fixes it, but can I just restart the USB devices (physical unplug and replug doesn't work). Googling hasn't given me the answer to what must be an easy one.

For example on a Red Hat 5.3 server - our IPmonitor shows that 85% is used on the /usr partition, however when I do a df -h on the server it shows that 91% is used. Why there would be a discrepancy? IPmonitor uses SNMP.

At work, when my laptop is docked, I use a dual head configuration (internal + 1 external screen), but at home I use the laptop without a second screen.
Using the binary nvidia driver, the laptop always selects the correct configuration upon booting (TwinView), but not upon hot-plugging.
I would just like to suspend the laptop and continue before/after commuting.
I have a box Suse 11.1 with a service that (I dont know why) every day stop at the same time. Im finding why it come to a halt but in the meantime I would like restart it automatically.As root I insert in crontab the line:25 16 * * * /etc/init.d/service startBut it don works
If I launch manually /etc/init.d/service start (or stop) it works
Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening. I am able to start Dolphin normally either via keyboard shortcut or application launcher menu.
However if I close or exit out of the application I am then unable to open it again. Instead I get a bouncy icon and and spinning circle in the task bar and then nothing ......
Running a ps aux | grep from the CLI gives me the following processes that must be manually killed before I can reopen Dolphin.

The Geeko logo is there and the white bar retracts, once it hits all gray it stays there until I force a hard-shutdown holding the computer power-button.What steps can I take to fix this or start troubleshooting?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had my netbook which is an Acer AspireOne lock up on me once earlier today and after doing a hard shutdown *holding the power button* and booting it back up I noticed that I could no longer reboot the machine from KDE's graphical shutdown button. Basically I click it and it pops up with the 30 second count down and then nothing. However I can run as root,

and it will comply and reboot. I did notice that rngd was returning an exit status 1 and after some research decided to uninstall it with no change to anything. I decided to attempt and see if it was just a KDE issue as many problems have been, but when I attempted to log into Gnome I got a very nice white screen with one black line where the taskbar should be. Whether they are related or just coincidence I don't know.
I've ran my google researching skills into the ground on this one and I'm tired and a bit grumpy because I haven't been sleeping so it'd be awesome if I could get a heads up, because to my knowledge it's not reporting any errors it just seems to hang without sending the shutdown signals.
how can i restart properly X and kde?
Use case: I've update my system, with some X and kde. I don't want to restart, so i go to vt1, login as root, and type "init 3". X and kde shutted down. After i type "init 5" to get back everything.
But if i logout vt1, X and kde are also gone. I know that's normal, but i want to start X and kde as they start on boot. It's the same with a normal account and "startx" or "startkde"
